Let's get right to the point, there was a moment where voldemort finally realised that he was going to lose and then guess what, he lost. The truth is, despite his arrogance, he was a very intelligent man and was well aware of when things weren’t exactly going to plan. In fact Voldemort was so sure of himself that when his situation did become uncertain, it would’ve been like a loud red siren flashing in his face. So before we get to analysing this moment so to speak, let's look at why a situation like this never happened before and almost didn’t happen this time round either.

I think it's a lot different in the book than the movie. The movie shows a lot of the Death Eaters deserting when Harry pops back up but it's still a very chaotic battle scene up until the final duel. Whereas in the book not only are there way less Death Eaters but by the end it was only Bellatrix and Voldemort. Everyone else had deserted, been incapacitated or died. And when Molly kills Bellatrix you get the huge blow up from Voldemort. I think that's when he knew he was going to lose in the books. He had no one left.

I think everyone would have loved it, but we all know why they couldn't do it. One, the final battle was done in the Great Hall, but it was much bigger in the books than in the movie. Two, there were a lot more people involved in the fighting, along with the centaurs, house elves and even Buckbeak. More people would have cost a lot more money, and that would have been very costly. So I understood why they didn't give us that, but I've always lamented that there weren't any witnesses to Voldemort's being killed other than Harry; I thought some of the others should have been there to see it.

One thing most don’t pick up on is the reason Harry does not die from the killing curse in DH part 2, is because of the cemetery scene in GOF. When Voldemort uses Harry’s blood to create a new body, he unintentionally preserves the “love magic” protection Lily had given him. So even when Harry turned 17 (adult in the wizarding world) and should have been vulnerable to the killing curse, the magic still existed in Voldemort. Which means that so long as Voldemort was alive, Harry could not die permanently as he was still under Lilys protection. Voldy screwed himself over in the 4th book (GOF) by insisting Harry be used to create his new body. From that point on, including books 5,6,7, Harry could not be killed. Once Voldemort was killed at the end of DH, Lilys protection finally was gone, so he could be killed. But Harry was no longer in danger as his enemy was vanquished. It’s also explained that the elder wand never worked properly for Voldemort because he had not earned its loyalty. Draco disarmed dumbledore in HBP, then Harry disarmed Draco in DH at Malfoy Manner, making him the true owner of the elder wand’s loyalty. The loyalty of the elder wand is a fickle thing, but it would not kill it’s true owner, which is why the spell backfired and killed Voldemort in the final duel.

yeah thats why there is a movie error in the movie. They shoot avada kedavra and expelliarmus at each other in the movie before Nagini is killed, which means the elder wand should have made the avada kedavra backfire into Voldemort, and destroy his body like it did before. Then Nagini should have been killed by Neville but Voldemort wouldnt be dead because he would be existent as a soul like he was the night he attacked james and lily. Fortunately the books dont make this mistake but movies messed up with Nagini's death.

He would be mortal, he would have lost most of his ressources in battle and his reputation would be incedibly damaged, The weakened and complex situation of both sides could be interesting to explore.

Knowing Voldemort he would have just hid somewhere and tried to make another Horcrux, and would have died in the attempt because the piece of soul left in his body would have been too small and weak to survive a ninth attempt.

A desperate man is a dangerous and foolish man. Voldemort became so desperate towards the end that he began acting recklessly and he arrogantly believed that his knowledge and skills of magic were far superior and he would not be defeated. That was his biggest mistake. Powerful people know that they can lose their power at any moment so their actions are cautious and well thought out. They are calculated, thoughtful, and smart with their actions and oftentimes they can predict what will happen next so they can plan the next move. They know that there is always a possibility that something unexpected can happen that can force them to take action. Had Voldemort thought things through he would have been able to prolong his reign and perhaps even succeed. He could have taken time to make more horcruxes, or hide the ones that hadn't been found yet and kept them close, or build a bigger army while everyone was still denying his return. After all those who kept warning people of his return were being ostracised by everyone in the magic community. Some were even getting arrested like Hagrid and Dumbledore. Voldemort could have put more people undercover and may have even been able to infiltrate the Order of the Phoenix just like Snape had infiltrated the Death Eaters. In my opinion, I feel like Voldemort knew that he had a high chance of losing before the Battle of Hogwarts which was why he jumped the gun and decided to attack Hogwarts. He knew he was losing control of things. Harry was pretty much nowhere to be found, and people were revolting against him and secretly coming together to eventually fight against him and his Death Eaters. I'm pretty sure he knew he was also losing the loyalty of some of his Death Eaters but because a lot of his once most loyal Death Eaters were either dead, arrested, or hiding and he couldn't exactly kill those he felt were straying from him, like Lucius. Lucius would have been killed long ago if things had been different. I feel like that's why he didn't engage in the fighting during the Battle of Hogwarts and pretty much stayed in the Forbidden Forest keeping Nagini away from danger. Then when Harry went to meet him and he thought he'd killed Harry he foolishly thought that people would easily submit to him because their hero/saviour was dead. He foolishly let his guard down and when Harry came back from the dead he realized that he did not have the upper hand and that his chances of succeeding were slim. He knew that the elder wand still wasn't properly responding to him, and with Nagini eliminated he was mortal and weaker with only a small fraction of his soul left. I believe that he realized he'd lost the moment Nagini was killed but his arrogance did not allow him to just give up. [EDIT] One more thing... I believe that when Harry revealed that he was still very much alive Voldemort realized he'd made a grave mistake in taking Narcissa's word and not checking for himself when she said that Harry was dead. I believe that that moment was a turning point where he realized things didn't look so good for him but he couldn't exactly back down and retreat anymore.

They kept Grindelwald imprisoned up until his death. I am pretty sure that they could have placed Voldemort in much of the same way. Although Voldemort did get into the castle see Grindelwald when he was hunting for the Elder Wand. There would have been a need to attend to the ability of Voldemort to fly without the aid of a broom and the many other special abilities that he possessed. But with all of his horcruxes gone he was no longer immortal. He was greatly weakened but he was human again. He was vulnerable to death and he was able to be killed by anyone. Their best bet would have been to kill him outright. Even weakened he was still powerful enough for some advanced magic.

Very interesting video! I think the first moment where Voldemort realizes that things could go really wrong was when he realized that the trio was chasing and destroying his horcruxes. However, I don't think that at this point, he actually took the possibility to lose into account - he just reacted quickly, ordered everyone with him to Hogwarts and he had so much action around that he didn't really have time to think. And if he did, he probably was aware that he would suffer some losses in form of horcruxes, but I'm certain that at this point, he did not yet think that he could really lose the battle and die. Referring to the book, I think that Voldemort never let a thought of a loss into his brain until the very final duel. Some of the things Harry said to him while they were circling each other shocked Voldemort shortly, but he always found a reply, so I'm sure he still didn't really have an idea that he really might lose. In my opinion, it was only when Harry revealed the final secret ("Because if it does... I am the true master of the Elder Wand.") when the imagination of a real loss shot into Voldemort's mind. But weakened and thrilled as he was about how much had already gone wrong for him in one day, he was not able to react rationally at this point. Instead, Voldemort again reacted with immediate action and finished himself. So as I see it, there were only a few seconds between Voldemort realizing he could lose and his actual death.

Consider this. What if the elder wand lies outside wand lore? What if the elder wand shows loyalty to those who possess Peverell blood? The wand may have betrayed Grindelwald because Dumbledore may be more closely related to the Peverell family than Grindelwald. If the elder wand is a family heirloom and shows more loyalty to someone who possesses more family blood, then maybe it never bonded to Voldemort because he had so very little of his soul left. In addition Harry possessed two other deathly hallows which are also inheritances from the Peverell family. This would mark him and prove to the wand that he has a stronger blood bond to the magical item and therefore the wand would obey Harry over Voldemort

Edit to add: It's acknowledged that there are several generations of the wand's history. There are times when the trail of death disappears, but it would always reappear. Ollivander speaks of the wand as if it's several centuries old.

And it's not hard to see why it went bad seeing how the franchise has had more than one director. Old/Ancient Magic is Love. Love in potterverse is 'THE' most powerful force in the world and cannot b misused of selfish or evil intent. So Voldemort dismissed it his whole life. He knew just about everything magical except that. If I could reach out to JK Rowling, I would ask her to invent another magic of HOPE. In the 5 elements of nature that give life to the world (earth, fire, air, water, and aether), there is the 5 elements of light that bring goodness and prosperity...wisdom, courage, love, innocence, and hope. Wisdom is being understanding and insightful. Courage is face ur fears and insecurities. Love, we know that one already. Innocence bring kindness, compassion and sympathy. Hope metaphorically build bridges, find what has been lost, and mends what's broken.

if I had to say when he lost in the movies, it was in DH 2 when he wrapped Harry up with his black cloth ropes, and had him completely impobilized, cut to other fighting around the castle...... ok back to Voldemort untying Harry and slapping him around instead amidst light conversation about wands and their rightful owners. Voldemort was ultimately defeated by a series of caveats not in his favor. Putting Harry and Voldemort up against each other was ridiculous Harry was so far outclassed that Voldemorts wands had to shit out on him every time while he hid his self destruct buttons in plain sight.

Was I the only one that was really surprised that, neither in the book or movies, we didn't see him beg for his life in the end? Considering he was absolutely terrified of death, he was willing to put his soul through all that just to avoid death coz it scared him so much. I think it would make sense if he went out kinda like Littefinger from Game of Thrones, breaking down and begging. But maybe that's just me.

First of all - Littlefinger's death was absolutely pathetic and everybody hated it. And Voldemort didn't really have time for that, as he was dueling Harry, and died during that duel. Besides. he was still confident that he could win, so he didn't see any reason to beg anyone.

He was a master with words, a manipulator, he wouldn't just fall to his knees, he would try to out-manipulate them till the very end. That was a bad death *for Littlefinger*. But for Voldemort? I can totally see it - the man was terrified of death. As for there being no time - that's why I said "neither in the book nor movies"; in the book he goes out super quickly, but in the movies there is plenty of time during which he realises what is happening. And if they did implement this, it would have to be during this time, when it's too late for anyone to save him (coz you dont want characters taking pity). I at least wanted a little "Help me..." But again, that's just me.

Because I think Dumbledore always suspected that Voldemort made Horcruxes. But, still. At least "killing" him would result in him being disembodied like what happened when Harry was a baby. Wouldn't there be a spell to imprison that main part of his soul? Okay. He wouldn't be dead, but being magically trapped with no body might be worse. Remember. In OOTP when Dumbledore fought Voldemort, he told him that worse things could be magically done to a man than death. I'm guessing Dumbledore wanted Voldy GONE with no chance of him building another new body. From what I understand, a killing curse WILL rip you out of your body, even with Horcruxes. In fact, it's never mentioned, but I'm guessing when they found Harry as a baby, they found Voldemort's corpse as well. A rebounding killing curse wouldn't destroy his body.

He wasn't immortal. By possessing all 3 objects and willingly going to his death, he had become the "Master of Death", which allowed him to choose whether or not he wished to remain dead, or return to the world of the living and finish the task he had set out for himself.

I think thats a stretch saying voldremort was smart here is my case if he never brought Nagini to hogwarts and left at an undisclosed location or somewhere harry couldnt reach he would technically be untouchable and he could have been invincible and after his defeat in the chamber of secrets he should have gotten snape to get the sword/sorting hat and anything else to defeat him
