The cover for the switch panel describes maintenance for the three commutators on the drive using commutator stones, these are available from Ideal Electric. exciter voltage needs to be around 115volts DC or the machine will surge starting at higher speeds. The commutator dressing is important particularly on the exciter for it to produce the operating voltage for the switches and voltage for the drive motor fields. The resisters look good, if replacing them does not solve your problems then above will apply. The good news is the machine runs, it is just some tuning in now. For the machine to perform correctly over time it will need attention. Good Luck!

@@DonDyarprecision I think you your channel was the one I watched the most just to inform myself about the lathe in general. Every time I was tempted to trash the DC drive and swap in a three phase motor and vfd I would remind myself that Don would never forgive me if I did😂

They are super nice machines! I have a '53 MG type, amazingly rigid and accurate even with some wear and neglect from PO. There are no less than 4? different types of oil 'supposed' to be used in the machine. The 10EE Bishops will scold you tennaciosly if they see you using 'other than' the comannded lubricant types......lol. You will love running that nice toy. The sound of the MG set adds an ambiance to the experience IMO.

Harbor freight NASA set of funnels under a buck that would be perfect for this lathe. Red and stacked together I've had a set and for fills like on this machine
