For people who have only watched hockey post-1995, those things you keep seeing in the highlight are called "goals". They're out of fashion today but back when I was growing up hockey games featured a lot of them. Also, St. Louis hockey fans are awesome. So glad the Blues finally won a Cup. This clip is now the SECOND-greatest moment in Blues history. :)

This was such a competitive series, which was a real treat for Blues fans as we probably beat Calgary 2-3 times the entire decade in the regular season. The 80s were brutal for the Blues against the western Canadian franchises.

wow thanks for posting this ....just being transposed from texas that year in april 1986 and only having seen olympic hockey i was introduced to NHL overtime playoff hockey. i never got to see the end of that game... every year since and up until the overtime rule change NHL hockey had more balls and excitement than all other sports combined. redwings vs rockies... oh god the good old days.... the blues vs blackwings oh god more fights in the croud than in the arena.. i miss the rivalry

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it! I remember first being able to watch lots of hockey on the USA network in the 80's. As they would show different games, sometimes I would get lots of Doc Emerick and Bill Clement, sometimes the great Dan Kelly, but Ken WIlson stood out to me as well!

I was there with at least 10 high school/college friends. We had great seats at the centerline of arena circle (the yellow seats above the blue parquet section). What an amazing night!

This series was great hockey entertainment. Either team could have won the series but it was Calgary with a Game 7 2-1 win. The Blues had a pretty talented but "no press coverage" team that many were surprised at. Great team cohesiveness, great bunch of personalities. It'll be hard to better the late 80's St. Louis Blues...

How ironic that Dougie Gilmour and Rob Ramage were two of the final pieces to Calgary's 1989 Stanley Cup puzzle.Not to mention that Joey Mullen arrived there too just months before this series.

On the tying goal by Paslawski, I don't think Macoun could have done any worse. I mean, he was basically left open to get his pocket picked. And it certainly hurt Vernon's chances,- you saw where he was on the other side of the net

The St.Louis Blues had much bettter teams on paper in the 24 years since then but only managed to get past the 2nd round only once since this in '01.
@landrykkb14 жыл бұрын
@Osterreich3 St.Louis had better teams on paper since then with the likes of Brett Hull,Adam Oates,Wayne Gretzky,Glenn Anderson,etc.,but this 1986 edition played as a team per se,thanks largely in part to Jacques Demers.
@landrykkb15 жыл бұрын
Then GM Jimmy Devellano had talked to Jacques Demers about coming to Detroit during that season.Under most circumstances that would be tampering,but it technically wasn't because Jacques Demers wasn't under contract in St.Louis.Even still,St.Louis had to be compensated with cash and I believe a few draft picks as well.

I didn't say bad. I said annoying. What used to drive me nuts was when the score would be, say, 4-1, and the team trailing would score making it 4-2, and Wilson would say 'and that makes it FOUR to two!' instead of 'and that makes it four to TWO.' You might say it's trivial but it was just one of many things about him drove me up the wall.

I guess you don't listen to John Kelly? Or Federko? Or the Lightning's announcing team? Yikes. If Wilson is bad, I'd like to know who you consider good.

"Oh baby" also got really old, otherwise Wilson was good. John Kelly is getting better... when he actually does play-by-play. Usually he's jabbering on about some lame story he had heard before the game. That's Federko's job as color-man. I'd like to see Bernie Federko's mustache (just the 'stache) give the intermission report.
