Roger Waters is back with another dark, strange and controversial track. This time it's a new version of Pink Floyd's 1973 song "Money" - part of his upcoming DSOTM Redux. Is it a new and exciting version or historical revision? It's the former, silly!

He replaced the guitar solo with a spoken word solo. One that is very clever and paints a great narrative picture. This is nothing like what I expected and it has me very excited about the final product. Good video

The new DSOTM Redux box set comes with multicolored vinyl and CDs (also cassette tape and 8 track for older fans) posters, everything but marbles. Seems Roger lost all of his.

I think the song is just a slog to get through and competely forgettable. And I'm fine with him trying something different, good for him, but I think it just fails as a piece of music.

Ok, i'll give it a try then ! I have to admit I didn't have much faith in the project, as I haven't been very impressed by Roger's musical efforts lately. (i'm talking about his tour. I did enjoy the lockdown sessions) His writing and storytelling skills however, I've always been very impressed with, and I can't wait for his memoir to _finally_ be released. I wonder if all the backlash he's getting might be somehow causing the delay, like he doesn't want to be "expose" himself with such a personal book when public opinion about him is already quite negative overall...

I think you nailed the mood of the song being a "post-apocalyptic lounge". Not as good as the orignal, but I'll be happy to listen to it when in the right mood.

Personally I think that Money would work great as an instrumental track. Roger's raspy whisper sorta just takes away from the sound of the song. Sure the lyrics are an important (even essential) part of the message, but 99% of the people who listen to Money Redux will already know the lyrics from the original, making Rog's voice on the track somewhat redundant. Again, the instrumentals of the song aren't just good, they're awesome. But the lyrics decrease the quality of the track drastically. This is coming from a guy who likes The Final Cut btw. I've got no problem with whispers. But when the whispers are coming from a 79 year old musician who sounds like a fifty year old chain smoking woman, well I can't see myself listening to such a song regularly.

People have distain towards Waters because of his new approach to DSOTM because, in Waters style, he always upsets the applecart, which, I think is refreshing and exciting. People tend to get locked into thier sentimentality and dont want that destroyed by Rogers reworking. Oh, Boo hoo! Rogers reworking doesnt upset peoples dreams of a perfect past. Its still there everyone, and its great in its Pink Floyd original form. But I love Waters new spoken word approach to the song Money, emphasising the corruption of greed ie those corporate businessman dogs who create cultural division by marketing false values, and create War in thier pursuit of money and selling their souls out of Greed. Its still saying the same message in the Money song as the original Pink Floyd version, but this new version rams home the message of greed and its corruption, but I dont think its too preachy. I think celebrating the 50th anniversary of DSOTM with a new tone is a great contribution. Its just making the celebration of that album more interesting. Unfortunately recent Pink Floyd without Waters seems to me to be really superficial and uninteresting. Dont get me wrong Gilmour, Wright and Mason are great musicians and collaborators and Pink Floyd wouldnt be so iconic with all thier past album without them. But after Roger left the band, Pink Floyd just seem to stick to the sentimenal past and didnt do anything really that ground breaking. I know Pink Floyd had to find thier feet for a while when Barrett left and Roger took the lead, and that led to all those great iconic albums eg DSOTM, but when Waters left and Gilmour took the lead, I just dont think they ever found thier feet and sound. So I think its only Roger thats doing something new and interesting with Pink Floyd music. Hey, he has got us all talking about, in his new approach to bringing this album into the relevance of society in the present day. I love this version of Money and I wouldnt compare it to the original version because it is its on thing entirely. Rogers reworking of Money is very bluesy, smooth and has a very seedy tone to it. Yeah, its very coool. And Waters sounds like Tom Waits in 9th & Hennepin's corrupt town welcoming us to this present Hell.

I know it's subjective I used to love Roger Waters especially Radio Kaos but the last few albums have been so depressing I do not want to be reminded of the miseries of the world when I listen to music I want to be released from that
