Those wild horses are Prezwalski's Horses. They were once thought to be extinct until a small herd was found in Siberia. it is nice to know that the Mongols also have them in their land.

@@topgear3128 That is so interesting! Thanks for the info! During my research, they tended to mix the two names. The Takhi was often referred to as Prezwalski's or vice versa, and apparently, the Takhi almost died out. A new herd was brought into the Steppes to help bolster their numbers. Is there a lot of difference between the species?

I rode a Mongolian horse for a week across the Mongolian steppes, over a mountain to a glacial lake, through a valley and back. They are incredibly strong, smart and sure-footed. They are also much smaller than most western horse breeds, but are just as strong. The horses I was with only broke a sweat on the last day (it was especially hot) even though we rode about 5 hours each day. The horses there are turned loose into the wild and are only rounded up when they are needed to ride, milk, etc., so they have a strong independent streak and only the fittest survive. Mongolia is a beautiful country full of kind people. The steppes are dotted with wildflowers like a scene from a movie.

What a stunning country and how I love all the horses, truly the most mazing of all animals, I am a competent rider but when I see Mongolian children ride I feel like a novice, their relationship with these animals is on another level.
