To be fair, I grew up during the 80's and I never heard of this movie till the 2010's. I looked up it's box office performance and it did NOT do well (it only made about 3 and a half million and had a budget of 12 million). I definitely did NOT see it on TV either (I didn't have cable, just the basic channels). It only got ONE VHS release during 1988 and nothing else and didn't come to DVD till 2007 (that's when it got popular with a cult following. Before that, few people saw it).Great movie.

@@unclecreed2986 honestly, I like them both. Manhunter was more realistic, and Tom was scarier than Ralph Finnes, but there's more of an arc for Francis in Red Dragon. The modern presentation of Red Dragon is easier for me to watch, so gun to my head, I might go with that.

I can't believe they haven't mentioned that Frankenstein was played by Tom Noonan, the original Red dragon in manhunter and was Cain in Robocop 2, also Jack Gillem who played Van Helsing was Zeus in Clash of the titans, And John Gries the Wolfman played a werewolf in Fright Nite 2. And Dracula was Duncan Regglar who played Zorro

It's not explained, but to me it was clear as a kid that the reason all the monsters just gathered was due to Dracula having some sort of telepathic call that he sent out, it didn't need to be explained, 7 year old me was able to figure it out.
