The armadillos are a nod to the original Universal Dracula movie! They used them in that one because they were an animal that not a lot of people knew about at the time, so they seemed exotic and monstrous to audiences! Love your costumes, btw!

About the whole virgin thing, and your hangups regarding that, in the diary, the word "virgin" is probably translated from the German word "Jungfrau", literally "young woman". So it probably was more clear-cut than you thought. Though after all this time, you probably won't notice this comment. Love the podcast though :)

Re armadillos - they were wandering around Dracula's castle in one of the super-early Dracula films (maybe the first one?) because the studio had got their hands on some and just...put them in the castle. People hadn't really seen them before so they were seen as super creepy. It's a great shout-out to very early horror.
@aim-to-misbehave56746 жыл бұрын
Yep, found it. Bela Lugosi, 1931. Armadillos in Transylvania. Because the director thought they looked creepy. There are also opossums for the same reason.

58:58 When Dracula does that, there was a stand-in used when Dracula [Duncan Regehr] says "bitch" to Phoebe [Ashley Bank]. The filmmakers didn't want to "traumatize" the girl anymore than necessary cause she was already kinda afraid of the actor, so they used a double. The girl at the time didn't even know he said that until she saw the movie herself. 🙃

Why does this remind me of that one Scooby-Doo movies where Fred, Daphne, and Velma get transformed into monsters and Shaggy and Scooby have to save them by going into the monster world. Gonna bust out some Christian mythology. Limbo is on the edge of hell and is basically a place of waiting. People that hadn't necessarily sinned but who couldn't get into heaven....think unbaptized babies and people who didn't receive last rights. They are basically waiting. No punishment just hanging around. Purgatory on the other hand is like hell lite. In Latin Purgatory literally translates to place of cleansing. So it's a place where depending on the gravity of your sins you can do your penance and then move on to heaven. So it's temporary. Limbo is scarier because there isn't an end. You're basically just waiting for the end of times and for God to deal with you at that point. Which is why it's bullshit babies are stuck there.
@gageronipizza15205 жыл бұрын
You sinned you said bull s word
@tianarhastings83723 жыл бұрын
Babies being there depends on the depiction Other depictions does not have babies going there they go straight to heaven because they don’t have the ability to choose or not choose if they believe in the son of God and are innocent till they are able to sin. Even factoring in the sin of Eve they are innocent because of the son of God

Trivia: the actor who plays Van Helsing in this was in the British Navy for 20 years, served in World War II, and was invalided out with the rank of Commander. He became a Shakespearean actor at the age of 42, performing first at the Shakespeare Memorial Theater in Stratford, and later at the Old Vic in London. He moved to the USA in 1969, and continued to appear in many theater productions, with the occasional tv or movie role thrown in. He would have been about 78 years old here in Monster Squad.

Drive Thru is a pretty fun slasher by Brendan Cowles and Shane Kuhn. I think it would make for a good Kill Count episode because of some amusing, creative and/or brutal kills. Though even a podcasts would be fine. The summer of the movie is this; Horror gets Super Sized when Horny The Clown, the demonic mascot of "Hella-Burger," starts slashing Orange County teenagers with his meat cleaver from Hell. Personally I loved this movie when I saw it on the horror channel a while back. So I hope a horror fan like you will as well.

Ok, so idk if you guys are still reading comments on stuff as old as this, but in case you are, I just want to point out a few things: A) The whole Alucard-Dracula thing is (i think) a reference to Son of Dracula where the titular Son of Dracula goes by the alias of Count Alucard. B) I’m pretty sure that the Creature From the Black Lagoon was nicknamed the Gill Man back in the original trilogy of films. Also, I think that you guys saw a slightly different version of the film to me (at least when it comes to the end credits song) because my version, in stead of saying ‘The Gill Man swimming in the pool’ said ‘The Creature From the Black Lagoon.’ Idk, stuff’s just weird like that. I love this podcast, and this I literally listened to this immediately after watching the movie. Loved your take on it and I’m glad you both enjoyed it as much as i did.
