Hi Justin, big fan! The 58/15 pickups are the hotter ones, the 'LT' stands for low turn, so they are the lesser hot pickups. The JM's may well sit between the two, but im fairly sure if that's the case, that they will be hotter than the LT's, and not quite as hot as the original 58/15s. Thanks for the amazing content. Your channel has maintained a very high standard for years now, and you clearly are working very hard to improve it all the time. Congratulations, sir.

Yes the 58/15 LT’s are very polite / low output. Lovely pickups but could see JM would want something a bit hotter while still being a fan of low output pups.

The craziest thing is that with most AUD recordings at other venues you have better sound. When you are in this building, the sound your actual ears hear is literally (and dramatically) different and MUCH better. Like perfect mix and balance almost everywhere you sit. Almost like you're wearing headphones. This is a great video and love the analysis, but you gotta hear it for yourself.

I thought he found his own voice with D&C on the Honey 594. Hope he brings it back. But the DS SS does suit the classic alligator sounds better IMO.

I have an SC 594 from 2018 ExperiencePRS and I love it, it and my Dodgem Blue Silver Sky are my favorite guitars, my #1 and my other #1 ;) . I don't notice a huge difference in the 58/15s he's using and mine, but it is a live performance.

Thanks for all the videos I'm a big fan. I'm bummed that my plans to see D&C the sphere fell thru. This will be the first group of shows i didn't get to since they began in 2015. Every year they get better and better, tighter and in sync. Ever since Bobby gave full trust in JM a few tours ago this is IMO the best reincarnation of the boys since we lost Jerry.i am hoping they either do the sphere again next year for the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead or some kind of get together to celebrate it because this band is incredible and are peaking and hitting on all cylinders.

I like the super eagle best. When I saw them live years back and he was playing that, it was incredible tone. Wasn’t crazy about the silver sky.

I was at the Memorial Day weekend run. He played the Dead Spec, a Jeff Beck Strat and the Silver McCarty. The silver McCarty was the standout. He ripped on it. His best Cold Rain & Snow sound ever.

I may be incorrect on several points here, but this PRS 594 looks familiar to me from several tours ago. It was not used for the entire show - just some songs. While John was using the PRS custom eagle he and Paul created and documented in a video about ‘chasing the tone’ (for the first tour). Compared to the two Eagles he had (one had the F-hole plugged), the 594 did not sit well in the live mix. It was difficult to hear, in my experience with multiple shows. Perhaps all of that has changed because the Pickups were swapped. I like how he switches his guitar for certain songs but do believe he discovered how simple it is to achieve a close enough Jerry tone by a much easier modification to the guitar with the preamp boost, specifically with the Dead Spec. And to think he went through all that trouble with the Eagle which looked too complicated. It was like a Cadillac Escalade of guitars - LOL. The Dead Spec became his Swiss army knife in the Final Tour and continues to be going forward - so far. John is obviously respectful and honored to contribute to the Dead’s music without being pretentious when it comes to the role of Jerry. And even when he has played Garcia’s “Wolf”, or clone guitars, those guitars still lack the tone Jerry had simply because John has a different effects chain, that suites him best and blends nicely in the live mix for DeadCo. I don’t know, something tells me even if John pulled out a cheap squire, he would make it sing. As long as the neck is playable for him to fly around on. The guy is a musical inspiration, for sure.

The best thing about the 594 is the versatility of it, obviously not this specific one... But I've never played a guitar that could be so easily 2 guitars in one and you would happily pay full price for both. The splits/tap (PRS is never clear about which one it is...) really sound great and I usually don't like split humbuckers...

The silver sky is typically my favorite but went to see them last week and the 594 stole the show. I was actually so surprised to see that John left the SS on the bridge pickup for basically the entire weekend, which is a tone that gets tiring after a while (and means he’s not playing my favorite middle pickup tone😢).

The tone is 100% in the guitar! There is NOTHING in the rig, gain staging, amps, blah blah blah, and let's be honest... In his playing. This is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT in the guitar!

I love sarcasm as much as the next guy, and of course all the things you mentioned matter to the tone, and they may all even matter more than the guitar. But Justin knows that, and considering that John is primarily a single coils guy, it’s not nothing when he plays a noticeable different sounding guitar
