When my daughter was 4 1/2, we moved into a townhouse with a basement that had no windows. The basement was primarily play space, with just the laundry and furnace in one quarter of it. But, she told me there were monsters down there, and rather than get into an unwinnable argument, I said, "Of course there are. But they're friendly monsters. They only eat dust, and they're only awake at night." So, every morning when she came down for breakfast, she would open the basement door and yell, "Good morning dust monsters!" so they would go to bed and be asleep by the time she went down to play after breakfast. Worked a charm. Two years later I caught her and her best friend peering under the washing machine, with her saying, "See? There they are!". The friend later cornered me to ask, "There aren't /really/ monsters under there are there?" Seven years old and she wasn't sure, because my daughter was so convincing. Monsters are cool.

When I told my daughter (36 this year, with a son too old for monsters under the bed) about this video, we got into a conversation where she told me that she was nearly adult before she knew that no-see-ums were real. When I was clearly surprised, she said, "I grew up with house hippos and dust monsters - HOW was I to know the no-see-ums are the real ones?" Excellent point, I think. But stories are important. Three things: 1. This comic has me hungry for more, specifically more of the monster world. 2. This comic seems to show us the destination, but not enough of the journey. I want to see more of their friendship over the years. 3. I've gone through the comments, and somehow there are no Undertale related remarks? Fine then, I'll make one: Sneeze is more adorable and precious than Asriel!

I can’t remember the name of that webtoon but it’s about a girl finding letters left behind by a former student and she strikes up a friendship with another student that does archery. Archer dude turns out to be old friends with the former student, who had left school for reason they didn’t know yet. And then in the end they find out all the clues leading back to the former student in a form of a bus pass, and they finally meet once again.

In the original comic lifting the bed ruined the magic, so when he grew up they couldn’t do anything. Probably because it has to be a child size bed low ish to the ground so only a child can fit through, sad but cool
