I remembered when the story was on canvas, there was a bonus episode and the creator explained the metaphor: They explained that the metaphor is fear. Everyone had their own fear, like the ladder. And no one can teach how to concur it. And once people concurred their fear, they're not the same anymore. And some fears can drive a person a little crazy, like how some children can't sleep at night cause their fear of the dark. Yes some people don't think fear exists, like how parents tries to help their children get over their fears growing up. While others think fear is part of life, like a landscape. There are rumors, facts, and scientific explanations about fear. And there you go, that's the medaphor of the story, you're welcome and thank you for listening and have a nice day.

Neat little symbolism about life and how it's different for everyone. Even the part about the ladder being the only thing around, you won't find anything if you just stay in the same place. You have to keep moving forward regardless of how tough it seems
@matthewflugstad80234 жыл бұрын
I thought of it as improvement because of the 3 facts 1) it leads to insanity: people might think that change might be insane and just sit and contemplate changing( i.e. sit and look at the ladder) 2) the people who climb it never come back down: not many people who improve want to go back to there old ways 3) the people who do are never the same: when they fallback into old habbits they might not have been the same person they were when they first got out of them To apply this I'll use smocking as an example 1) smokers might think it would be crazy to quit because how else would they call there nerves 2) if they are able to get a supportive friend group and live a less stressful life, they might never want to go back 3) those that do go back into smoking might have lost others and might be much sadder than they were when they first started

@@matthewflugstad8023 I was actually thinking how cool it was that the plot went from the climber girl go from wise to arrogant to continue the progression. I saw the ladder as life path wisdom at first, but when she said "look around, the ladder is all there is!" she was invalidating that these people had their lives, homes, families... the ladder isn't all there is. So maybe she has an obsession with success and fame. So now dude in the headphones is on his way up to challenge this ideology. And her ideology.

When I close my eyes and picture my own ladder it’s made of oak wood. It extends from the bottom as straight and sturdy as a tree trunk; however; it starts branching off into many confusing pathways further on up. I can’t see where they lead or know which branch is the best to follow. I want to climb my ladder but it looks so complicated and intimidating when I look up at it. Someday, I tell myself, I will climb it and choose a path. Thank you so much for writing and animating this story! I find it different than the usual stories out there, but it’s still impactful. I wish all those out there, who have their own ladders to climb, the best.

For me, the ladder is a journey of a life you’ve had so far. The higher you get, the more things you see, such as mistakes in your past, or childhood trauma. The objective: keep climbing up, don’t look back, keep moving forward. And eventually as you come closer and closer to your present life, something happens, and you’re back where you started. The ladder drives you insane because of things that have happened to you, but you never come back the same, because you’ve moved on and learned things about yourself. And then there’s that wonderful question: Are you willing to climb it?

Keep up the good work!
@myname45774 жыл бұрын
I know its not the original message the author had in mind but my first thoughts after I read the comic was that the ladder represented the meaning of life. Eventually everyone in their life knows and recognizes it. Sometimes it leads to diffrent paths then others and sometimes denial and belief come from personal experience of climbing. Sometimes it’s even more complex, you can’t explain it because it’s different for everyone. Maybe other things are thrown into the meaning of the ladder as well, like your dreams and fears. But i feel like that would make it even more true because those are just parts of life everyone goes through.
@hope-3-4642 жыл бұрын
Every time I watch this, something new sticks out to me. This time it was that the kid considered climbing the ladder, but only with friends. This is how a lot of kids & teenagers approach life. we often have people accompany us in our challenges, but it's when we get to be older that we are given more options in hobbies, classes, beliefs, and there isn't a vague mass of the general population anymore. I'm thinking in school and stuff, people from friend groups start taking different classes than each other, people have individual things they like to do. My whole life I've been just younger enough than my brothers to be in different age groups than them, so doing stuff isolated comes pretty easy to me, and I've realized that people who take classes and enjoy hobbies based on what they like, regardless of if anyone they know will be with them, are a lot happier in their choices. Maybe that kid only wants to climb the ladder accompanied, but ultimately that is impossible, and there will come a time where everyone has to step up to their ladder alone, or always be stuck following someone else. Stuck climbing behind someone, on a path they cannot see.
@mangareader55894 жыл бұрын
Both my dad and I love this story because it has very deep meaning to it, as the ladder is your life, it might be long, it might be short, it might be straight forward or it might be broken, all you know is that it's your life, your ladder and it's your choice to climb it or not.
@MrPointness4 жыл бұрын
But we go through life whether we want it or not. Here, characters of all different ages come here, none but one of them had climbed it before... and you can choose to climb it multiple times, or none at all... are the ones that chose to turn away choosing not to go through life? what would that mean?

Sometimes the latter will not be straight and be split. That represents it being a hard time to change who you are. We need to move on in life and accept changes and enjoy good times that we once had instead of making it worse than it could be.

Well Done!!!! 👋🏾 I absolutely loved the euphemism for how this “ladder” is our respective journey of life. When we each take a step closer we all become greater at developing our own destiny. Nice reminder for me to take a step on my ladder. See y’all at the top cuz the bottom is too crowded. -Kuro
