Y’all doing SeptEvie is the best birthday present someone has given me, ever! Beloved in September it is! Can’t wait to read more Mariana Enriquez: collection in September and Our Share of Night in spooky season! You cannot go wrong with any Stephen Graham Jones, so yaaaas! Would you say I *persuaded* you to read Persuasion? 🤣 I need John Steinbeck to come back from the grave and write a My Little Pony story (I am, indeed, a My Little Pony fan, albeit original version). Start Don Quixote this SeptEvie, finish it next SeptEvie. (Don Quixote: is it maybe the Latin American Spanish pronunciation of “x”?) I have been waiting to badger you about when we’re gonna read Perfume! 🤣 Happy Place is a quick read and a good palate cleanser, just sayin’! I am so annoying about The Spear Cuts Through Water, aren’t I? 💅 My two favorite things about Evie are you two! (I may have overused the exclamation points, but who cares.)

Apparently Don Quixote is an older spelling from early modern Spanish! We looked it up haha - you just never see that spelling in Spain nowadays

I never knew that the spear did indeed cut through water., thanks for enlightening me!! Very excited for this month, Evie has excellent taste 🤩

OH. MY. GOODNESS. Already wheezing in laughter (which continues the 100% success rate), Carlos mentions he may start Assassin's Apprentice. I made a noise like a boiling kettle that startled even me. I AM SO HERE FOR THIS CARLOS. Yolanda, Evie is exactly right in loving The Bear and the Nightingale, she sent it to me too, and I LOVED IT. I adore you both, and look forward to finding out which books you get around to 😘

I made a similar noise when Carlos pulled Assassin’s Apprentice from the shelf 🤣🤣 we love you, Derri!

It was really extraordinary watching the spear cut through water several times. I hope you enjoy the Bear and the Nightingale. It’s one of my favorites.

Persuasion is one of my current reads(for the Discord August thingy). Don Quixote! Just read the first chapter or two. They are really fun! (My old coworker Xavier from Costa Rica pronounced the X with a "h" sound. Maybe it is a Latin American Spanish thing 🤷) Carlos, you should read Happy Place.
@storytoob4 ай бұрын
The h sound is how we tone it down for English speakers, that's very common! Xavier and Javier are essentially the same name, but Xavi would be pronounced "Chavi" or "Shavi" and Javi is "Havi" but with a harder gutteral H - Seeing Quixote makes Spanish speakers automatically think "Quichote" or "Quishote" 🤣 I think your mate just didn't wanna overcomplicate it for the Americans haha - I know a lot of south American people, also have family from Argentina and it's the same pronunciation. (We also looked it up and Quixote is actually an older spelling in early modern Spanish that English speaking countries still use)

Great video guys. I’m gonna make a bet on what’s more passionate: my love for Black Leopard Red Wolf and Perdido Street Station or Evie’s unabashed love for The Spear Cuts Through Water.

Cheers Britton! Perdido will be tackled some day for sure!

THAT! 😆 So instead of doing an Evie impression, you decided to speak like Austen dialogue, Carlos? Loved the organ music as well. 😆 Can’t go wrong reading Evie faves. Girl’s got taste. ❤️

I think you’ll both appreciate the craft of The Spear Cuts Through Water, whether or not you end up loving it as much as Evie. I’m going to second Evie’s demand you read Assassin’s Apprentice. You won’t regret starting The Realm of the Elderlings. I appreciate that Evie always comes across as very genuine. I get the impression she is always just herself without pretension, and she is also quite generous.
