LET'S GOO GODDESS MONUMENT TIME!!!! It's funny because this particular arc is so hush hush keep quiet by manga readers sooo much. Like when discussing with anime onlys people would probably bring up or hint at the Golden City arc but they would zip up at the Goddess Monument arc. Because it's truly something that should be experience with absolutely no prior warning. The last page of chapter 107 is a "you just gotta be there" moment. Hope you enjoy this arc! It's a feast for shippers that's for sure 😂

i wanted to note that serie herself always refers to herself as a great mage of the mythical era. that era is also stated to be where the goddess of creation was last seen (she is depicted as an elf). so i have a theory that serie maybe one of the students of the goddess of creation or maybe even the last student. this is only based on my headcanon and can totally be ignored XD

The way Serie reacts when Frieren takes down her barrier suggests that she has an option other than just continuing to be the pinnacle of magic, but she still finds that to be interesting enough.

throughout the manga we've been conditioned all this time to distinguish between the present and flashbacks through the white and black backgrounds, so the transition to colored pages is such a magical moment. still gives me goosebumps even now xD Im sure the anime adaptation will be amazing but I don't think its possible to recreate the feeling of this specific moment.

I think the chapter 107 already is testimony to it in itself. He is 23, seven years into the Hero Party journey. So he convinced Frieren to join him on the quest to defeat the demon king as a 16 year old! The charisma then had bad been insane on the first meeting of them, because as we know after she gone and had the encounter with Macht, her will to follow through was 500 years vanished. The implications to the episodes/chapters of the start of the anime/manga come to be so much more imactful in this background.

I imagine Himmel is about as fast as Laufen using Jilwer without any mana consumption. I imagine Frieren saw Jilwer and was like, "Himmel the Hero was about as fast. I can react to that."

There's a pretty big difference between them though. Laufen uses magic, and Frieren can react to the spell as there are telltales. Raw speed is a completely different matter, there's no magic to "warn" you

Zoltrack is not a curse btw! The official definition of curses is "magic that change the state of living beings" like magic that put people in eternal sleep or turn them to stone (or gold in Macht case).

Kino mountain pass - it is basicly fortress on Northern Empire border Whole thing with "you need 1-st class mage to travel threw Northern Plato" was placed there because of Macht (Wiese was popular trade city and key fortress in the region, so you can imaging how many idiots could be attracted there by listening story about golden city)

With bi-weekly release and you doing 2 chapters a week for now, you are 20 weeks behind before catching up e.g. ~5 months. Even if the manga would only release one chapter per month from now on you would have roughly ~17weeks to catch up. And if you were to read 3 chapters per week it would be 12weeks or better to say ~3 months to catch up the earliest with a 14day release of new chapters. So just take the time it takes.

This goddess statue is just way of Frieren retrieve her memories that lost for one week. In the past when Frieren touch the monument the consciousness of future Frieren take over probably by goddess will to resolve issue that time (goddess magic anything can happen) thats why she lost her memories for one week and this arc tell us what happen within those time. And yep this isnt time travel because it would create time loop and multiverse (which i dont like) i prefer call it memories/consciousness transfer or possession better

Zoltraak was never a curse, since for a spell to be known as a curse it has to either petrify the target or put the target to sleep. Remember that flower-monster that Sein fought, it had a curse that puts people to sleep, and Macht's gold curse turns people into gold (petrifying them). Zoltraak was simply demon magic, but not a curse.

Basically curse is status ailment or debuff that cant be dispelled yet. If there is spell to cure it then it no longer a curse. Chapter 31 explain it well

I'm torn on this arc. I had fun with it, but on some level I felt it detracted from the main theme of going to Aureole to see Himmel and Heiter because, well, she already got a second chance to se them and it happened when they were all young. I wouldn't be mad if they cut it from the show.

She saw them again, but it was different from her goal. The hero party here is not yet the hero party that had defeated DK and lived decades of experience. She can't say the things she want to say to them because they wouldn't truly understand and the timeline would be fucked. This arc was to further characterize the hero party in a direct manner rather than second-hand flashbacks. If anything, I think this experience gave Frieren even more drive to see them again.

It's a strange narrative choice for a story centered on that journey, regardless of how you want to frame it as not counting as seeing them again because of a technicality, and in a story where flashbacks are such an important and effective narrative device, it's a shaky argument to make to say that getting "direct first-hand characterization" this way added much to the story. If I compare how it undermines the theme of going to Aureole vs what it actually added, I'm not sure you can sincerely say it did much for the story. As I said, I did have fun with it. I just don't think it quite works and I personally wouldn't mind if they cut it.

@jmhaces Yeah okay I guess this is a "to each their own view" kind of thing. But suggest cutting this arc is bizarre. It's a favorite of so many fans and it does provide information and set up for possible future arcs. This manga is all about the journey and I believe nothing of this manga so far deserve to be cut. You don't see how this arc work and that's fine, but I do and I'm sure many people else do too. Cutting this arc is simply not a good choice.

I mean you kind of criticize that a dessert is nutritionally not a food that provides you with all the healthy nutrients you expect to be in regular food. Perhaps you could also say it is a sweet appetizer. So yes you can cut that out of a meal.

But you're ignoring that I specified that my main issue with it is not that it doesn't add much, but that it involves Frieren seeing Himmel and Heiter again, regardless of which version they are and how their interactions are limited. If the story wasn't about going on a journey to see them again, I wouldn't mind in the slightest. But given that it is literally about that, I don't see that arc as adding anything that offsets what I don't like about it, from a narrative standpoint. I'm not complaining about how a random scene where Frieren bought cookies doesn't add anything. I'm pointing out that time traveling and talking to your dead friends in a story about valuing your memories together and going on a years-long journey to be able to talk to their spirits now that they're gone seems like an odd narrative choice for a story that is as tightly written as this one usually is, especially if we attempt to defend it by saying that by time-traveling we're getting "first-hand characterization" instead of getting it "second-hand" in the flashbacks. The flashbacks are first-hand. Frieren is there and we see what literally happened in real time from her P.O.V. even if it already happened. What changes about the characterization of these people if we learn about it during a flashback or in the present during a stint of time travel to the past those flashbacks take place? In both cases it's present day Frieren interacting with that information and letting it sink in. That is to say, what did we objectively learn about Himmel, Eisen or Heiter during her trip to the past that we couldn't have learned during a normal flashback, and how would those two scenarios impact her differently?

El dorado arc is brilliant and all, but this arc is 'monumental' and 'kino' in the way of referencing all the things we've learnt so far especially the characters in this fiction. The cherry on top is playing with the "XX years since the death of Himmel". That last page of ch. 107 gave me goosebumps.

I mean El Dorado arc is longer and left a greater impression with many people and since it is "longer out" more are attached to it being this great arc. But yeah I like Goddess Monument Arc more. I guess we will see how it goes for people who didn't had a big long waiting time of releases but could read it right after another. Even more interesting it would be to see how people see both arcs if they came about in the same anime season and they have it "right away" and therefore time between experiencing it is significantly shortened.

So I can see both and I'm in for getting surprised either way it will be great. Just yes, knowing about this arc I would like to have it earlier then later. In any case when it gets revealed how many episodes the next season has the crowd will have much to japp about.

I don't know who recommended mangadex to you but with regards to translation, you should definitely stick with the official. Kirei cake (the translation mangadex uploads) makes mistakes every other week.
