As horrifying as this story is, I think it is good to hear precisely because it drives home the importance of treating mental illness. People who don't suffer from mental illness often don't believe it exists because it tends to be invisible to the outside world. It is incredibly sad, and I can only hope those poor souls have found some kind of peace.

I suffer from mental illness; the details aren't important. But it's incredibly frustrating when someone you've known for a long time just says 'get outside" as if it was that easy. Being dismissed bc people don't get adds insult to injury. It's hurtful and reinforces to society that "it's all in your head".

Hey Adrian! Been following your channel for a couple of years now. Your passion for communicating these cases has attracted thousands of people every week, thanks for your hard work. I have a quick question out of curiosity. I've seen you cover cases from almost all over the world except from Latinamerica, which sadly, there are much more than I can count. I have my speculations of why that is but, is there any particular reason why you wouldn't cover them? Besides the case of Suzane Von Richthofen, there are far too many old and recent, interesting and heartbreaking cases from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica.... you name it. Keep up the good work my man!

What I am equally surprised about, is how much further ahead inida is with mental health support than my misconception. I thought for sure we were going to see a mentally ill person be thrown in prison, blamed incorrectly for his sisters death.

I lost a student to suicide. We petitioned to have their exam postponement to allow adequate time for their grieving. These petitions were all rejected. There was a story in France with a teenager named Nadir who went into cardiac arrest during an exam. He had a condition since he was a child and had a pacemaker, he fainted during the exam. The highschoolers present in the room reacted instantly: they opened windows to try to give him extra air, some went to check on him on the floor, but the teachers watching the exam immediately told them to go back to their seats instead. The teenagers ignored them and kept trying to help him, but he laid there, dying. The teenagers started yelling and crying, so another teacher came from another room and called 911... yet the headmaster was saying how they needed to change room to continue the exam. The highschoolers were shocked and mad, and most of them left (out of ~80 students, about 10 stayed to take the exam.) It happened this year in France, everybody was shocked that teachers just let the poor child die without instantly calling 911 or trying to apply first aid. The teenagers were the ones reacting and trying to save their friend's life while the adults were doing nothing. Apparently, it happened very fast so Nadir would have most likely died before help could come, but they knew about his condition yet didn't react, they didn't even call for an ambulance instantly and they kept acting as if continuing the exam was normal. All those teenagers literally saw someone die in front of them, mid-exam, but it's like none of the adults were truly understanding what was going on.

I still remember her as our substitute music teacher for a few months who taught in place of Bablu sir. She used to wear this 3 quarter type skirt, wore women's formal shoes, had boy's cut hair and thick glasses. The vividness with which we all remember her is eerie coz she was there for only a few months. I guess some people are difficult to forget.

Hi Adrian! I am from Kolkata and remember vividly the time this happened. The whole city was baffled that something so tragic could happen right under everyone's noses.... We Bengalis are very much attached to our families to the point that we never really learn to cut the umbilical chord and are happily dependent on each other. But the lose of such connections can be a severe trauma that without grief counseling is painfully difficult to overcome.... The 'crime' in this story is the failure of society and government to provide adequate support in terms of a community and mental welfare..... Hope the family now finally finds some peace and are together wherever they are...

I am from Calcutta and I remember clear as day the morning this news broke, creating shock ripples. It's a depressing case and reveals how some people cope with loss in dysfunctional ways. Loss (especially the loss of loved ones, including pets) can cripple people, and letting go can be a hard thing. Mental health support needs to become a societal investment to help people cope with loss and trauma. This red home, on Robinson Street, is near my school and was very familiar to me, so to hear about the horrors this home hid really shook me. I love listening to true crime (including dark, morbid, and even tragic cases like this), and I find your videos strangely therapeutic.

This shows how very sadly, depression and grief can affect someone and families. Also in our current world, that we are all struggling with, to different degrees, it is even more important to look out for one another, our family, friends and neighbours. ❤ Thank you for another expertly produced and eloquently presented video Adrian. I hope you and yours are well, and Nero 🐈❤.

This case shook me to my core and still does. I was in delhi when I was told about the case by my kolkata family. This case was on everyone's lips across the country for years. I am sure that like me millions of Indians kept googling over the last 10 yrs to see what Partha was doing. I was devastated when I learnt that he too burnt himself to death in this new apartment where he had moved to years after the original incident. You covered the case well, Adrian.

How incredibly sad and heartbreaking. This is why televangelism is such a big problem globally. It’s not the first case I’ve heard of of a death being linked to televangelism. Yes, this 100% could have been avoided with proper mental health care, but when a preacher on tv is telling you “no, you’re not depressed or anxious, it’s demons, now send me money” someone with severe mental health problems will buy into that and this is the result!!

It's sad that the family didn't do more to check up on each other. Stories like this are so sad when so much could have been done to help these three people. Also on the other hand it also reminds us to take care of our own mental health & each other

It seems pretty clear that Father Rodney didn't seem to grasp the seriousness of Partha's mental state. He was lonely for reasons other than just not being in society. What a tragedy all around.

Have you ever thought of getting a real coffee shop looking studio instead of a green screen? The lighting also needs an upgrade (Being less of a warm color and more realistic lighting would be better) and maybe even the camera quality cause your skin looks way too smooth. I love the idea of this channel but I feel like a real studio and better lighting would be such a great upgrade since the green screen looks a bit fake lol. I just give advice and my opinion to channels I like because I want to see them do better

Jesus, this poor man and his family.. My heart breaks for them all. I'm sure every one of us knows what it feels like to be trapped in a spiral, but, geez.. I wish somebody could have helped them all sooner. :( The entire family was left to rot in their own depression, and disgustingly, the media wound up benefitting from it. At least it brings to light the importance of looking after your mental health.. and the mental health of those close to you.

Mental Health continues to be a source of taboo, yet we all experience mental health. It's so sad that this family isolated themselves to such a degree that there was no one to identify the issues and enable them to access the support, they so badly needed. I guess it seems that we are living in a society whereby not knowing our neighbours, and disconnected from family, has become the norm - isn't that sad
