Adrian always tricks me with his accent. He sounds so sweet and gentle 99% of the time, as if he doesn't have a care in the world and never gets upset. But there's moments where he throws in a curveball that makes me spit out my drink. "...who, if you don't know them by name, are the two vile sh*tbags responsible for the Columbine High School shootings..." And then he casually continues on with his story, as if that didn't just happen. Well done, sir, well done!

Would be interesting if Coffeehouse Crime cover the case of Sumanto. Sumanto is famous in Indonesia for all the wrong reason. One thing that’s sad in cases like this, something that’s rarely addressed, is the family of the killer. They go through a horrible kind of grief….the loss of their son…and the overwhelming burden of the killer being their son. I think they can never recover, have no support, and in fact, get targeted. Does anyone remember the Casey Anthony case? Her parents were literally tormented by total strangers. We all feel the tragedy of the loss of a beautiful young woman. Somehow people feel like the family of the perpetrator should be held to blame. There are victims scattered wide after these tragedies.
@alsmith9853 Жыл бұрын
Maybe... maybe not. It's possible they have no idea what their child is doing and no control. I don't condone people targeting the family but sometimes family members are enablers, supporters, encouragers and protectors of murderers. In which case I feel no sympathy at all.

I remember that it enraged me when some social conservative types blamed Megadeth's music for the shooting. It seems like the only time the media makes a big deal about a horrible person's taste in music is when it's metal, or something else on the heavier end of the spectrum. That's not fair. I would like to read or hear about a horrible crime where the killer or killers listed their favorite music as Luke Bryan or Ariana Grande for once.
@snooganslestat2030 Жыл бұрын
@@RequiredFieldsWell thinking about the population in general its safe to assume there is a fair percentage of people who listen to pop music. A percentage larger than listen to metal (as I do). Statistically that means those musical tastes are spread out amongst killers, its just that it's unusual to point out the interests of a criminal unless its relevant to the crime. Like certain games GTA for example, sections of the media (usually hyped up by religious folk) love a good bogeyman to blame. & Of course they look to whatever they don't understand or what they think the pearl clutchers will freak out over.

I was in my first semester at Dawson when this happened. I was on my way to class when someone messaged me to stay away, thankfully before I reached the metro and lost cell service. That was one of the scariest days of my life and ruined my ability to go to school for a long time, even after they renovated the school. I thought I was over a lot of the trauma but I just started crying seeing the security camera footage. A girl from my graduating class of high school was shot. My mom worked with Leslie. The shooter gathered up a few students as hostages, including my cousin’s boyfriend at the time, and went down the line aiming his gun at their torsos, he paused at my cousin’s boyfriend and then shot the guy next to him in the stomach. Aside from the loss of life being hit by gun fire is no joke. Some of those injured will suffer for the rest of their life with more than just anxiety or ptsd. The nerve damage, the scar tissue and other physical pains or possible addictions they will endure will sometimes shorten their life spans. It effects those injured almost to the same extent as the end of life, the life they knew is ended, their new life begins.

I went to Dawson college years later, from 2012 to 2015. Many of my teachers told us about that day. One explained he was allowing phones in his class as on that day, his class was finishing as the killer was entering the school and of the students would have left the room, they would have run directly into him. But some people receive text messages telling about the shooter so they instead stayed barricaded in the room until it was safe. The little garden they made for Anastasia is pretty. Its a really sad story and even years later it felt surreal to just go eat in a cafeteria where such horrible acts happened... I had never saw images of the moment, its kind of guts wrenching to see place I know in such as state, it must have been so horrible for everyone there. The eulogie of her mother is really touching.

One thing to note about the Columbine Shooters they were not social outcast or loners. They were very social and were considered popular amongst their peers. They did hate humanity based on what evidence and were also in fact bullies at their school. This is something that is always commonly mixed up because the fact that most people who are "shooters" fall into the category of loners or social outcast. Most of this I learned back in College and interviews from students during that time.

That’s not true, they were never considered popular. In their journals they talk about how lonely they feel & about how they are bullied. The myth that “they were not bullied and were popular” comes from Dave Cullen’s Columbine book which is full of false & made up information.

My friend, Montreal Constable Denis Côté, is the officer who drove across town, grabbed a rookie upon arriving at the scene, and they both stormed inside the cafeteria, where Denis shot Gill, putting an end to the madness. Two months later, Denis was honoured for his heroics during our annual police awards gala, where he was given a standing ovation. Meanwhile, my ex girlfriend's son was one of the first victims, as bullets from Gill's assault rifle ripped through 8 entry and exit points in his chest. He survived, as did his girlfriend, who was shot in the chest. Both suffered severe PTSD, as did my ex. Thank you again for your brilliant breakdown of this terrible day.

People STILL think that I am your second channel haha... I don't think we sound the same but a lot of people do! Really appreciate what you're doing here - true crime content isn't easy to make at all. I have just released my 65th true crime video, it really does take it's toll but is such a rewarding thing to do.

As a teenager around this time and living right outside of the city in Laval, I had a friend call me and ask if I had been in the area...and then I opened the tv and saw the news. If I remember correctly the police acted very quickly, or there would have been more fatalities, this was just sad all around. :(

This situation is so sad. Sometimes it's almost impossible to see to the heart of people until it's too late, but we can only hope that we get better at understanding the patterns of violent change and preventing it from ever happening.

I hate outcomes like these so much, a lunatic taking the life of an innocent child from a loving family, it's so damn heartbreaking that it feels unbearable when you try to put yourself in those parents shoes 💔

I'm surprised you didn't cover the other well known school shooting in Montreal in 1989. It was such a terrible tragedy that there's an official day in Canada to remember the women who died at the Polytechnique school.

I remember that school shooting as the killer targeted women due to his misogyny and hatred.

Not only am I a Montrealer in the same age group as the victims, but I was also an avid user of VF. Furthermore, a friend of mine was one of the injured victims. It was absolutely terrifying. Thank you for covering this story with respect and understanding. Cheers! :)

“Watch out for the quiet ones” ugh shut up! I am a quiet person, so sick of being stereotyped like this. All the worst people I’ve ever known were loud mouth, out going people. I’m quiet because that’s just my personality, it’s not something you can just change. So sick of it being associated with killers & horrible people

After the shooting - i was obsessed with trying to find out more about Kimveer - it was a way to cope I suppose. Trying to understand why the heck he would attack my college. I didn't even see the worst of it and still have PTSD and agoraphobia from the event :(
@Legion_33666 Жыл бұрын
Hey, I went through the same phase as you after the shooting happened. I didnt see anything but it was because i was in that caf extension in the atrium thankfully blocked by the sliding door otherwise I would have seen quite a bit. But yea as for what we both did to try to cope, I remember looking up his VF page all the time and read the history of his posts. Even when the site blocked or deleted it from the public I got a link to bypass all that that still showed everything, I guess because detectives still needed access to it. So you weren't the only one lol. As for why he did it to our cegep, I have no clue. He went to Vanier for a while so its not like he got bullied here and sought out revenge for that. I have heard a rumor though that his first target was not the school but Atwater metro station. Apparently his plan was to get on and once it started moving he would go and shoot up as many carts as he could since nobody could run, but there were cops there already dealing with something else and it spooked him so he thought hed go for the school instead. Part of the rumor that makes sense is how the police response was so fast, if they were right down there it wouldnt have taken them much time to get to the atrium. Still an unverified rumor so i dont know for sure... glad you got out of there physically alright though...
@martianmartinis Жыл бұрын
@@Legion_33666 Hey - glad to hear you made it out of there physically unscathed aswell :) It was my first semester in college and I had only been going to school for 3 weeks when this tragedy happened. I was just about to head down the stairs from the third floor down to the caf in the atirum where the shooting was taking place when I heard a long series of shots, people that started screaming and I was hit with a wave of students running fast in my direction. One of my friends came running towards me and told me there was a shooter and that we had to run. So we headed back to a group of friends that we had been hanging with prior to warn them. Unfortunately we all exited the building through the way he came in, and by the time we all finally made it outside, I was faced with a guy on the ground clenching his chest - his white shirt was soaked in blood. Thankfully the paramedics had just arrived and were taking care of him. I was frozen in place - I felt like I was drowning in a sea of people, people screaming, sirens, the sound of helicopters hovering above - it's all still burned into my memory. There was even a guy covered in blood and talking on the phone while laughing like, ''Hahaha some dude just got shot in front of me hahaha'' we all react differently under shock I suppose... A girl I knew from highschool got shot that day as well... thankfully there weren't more casualtys but it still really screwed up so many lives... I personally get really agitated in crowded areas because of it :( Anyway. I guess that whole situation is one of the reasons why I love crime docs so much! I'm always trying to understand why or what lead people to committing these atrocities. My final take? I think he was just depressed, lonely, filled with hatred towards society and decided to go down in a blaze of glory. :/

Another amazing video! It's always weird as a Canadian to hear about my lovely homeland in these kinds of videos, but if anything it's just very humbling. If you want to look at a wild case that is wildly under explored (at least from the channels I've watched), look up Robert Pickton. He's from BC, Canada and his claims of victims is astonishing

With all these cases you've been covering that are set in Canada, Adrien, I can imagine you hosting the old Canadian true crime show Exhibit A: Secrets of Forensic Science if it came back. Any Canadians remember that show? As for this horrible crime, it's so sad Quebec was home to two horrible moments when ordinary people went postal. The first, in 1989, was caused by a demented incel and this one was caused by a misanthropic psychopath that never sought the help he should've got instead.

The locals here in the southern PNW, especially Sisters and Sweet Home would love it if you would cover John Aykroyd, a DOT serial killer that roamed highway 20 for years. The Oregonian did a fantastic documentary on him a few years ago that I definitely recommend. Ghosts of Highway 20. We love you here in Oregon and enjoy every video you post. Thank you, from Roseburg! ❤

You have an amazing channel. And a very comforting voice. Despite the nature of the content, its actually really calming to listen to you as i try and fall asleep on insomnia nights. Thank you very much for such great content, and such respectful content in regards to the victims. I applaud your integrity. Its a fine line in this genre, between fully informative and sensationalized and glamourised. You've got the right balance.

A note of thanks for the time and care you put into these real life stories. Your kindness and respectfulness toward those harmed or killed is very much appreciated. I think that true crime stories that are sensitively presented, as is the case with your channel, make people more aware of the importance of taking some common sense precautions when going out to enjoy nightlife, or when attending special events where large crowds gather, or being mindful about safety measures such as using the “buddy” system, and making a plan about keeping in touch with family or roommates while socializing on your own. Of course, we have no full proof method that can keep us safe in every situation, as this story illustrates, but many have likely avoided bad situations by being made aware of what has happened to others. Your manner of introducing us to the victims of the crimes you cover keeps their memories alive as human beings who were not just victims, but also individuals who shared many gifts while they were here with us. It’s not just a saying that we are all diminished when we lose someone to violence. It’s a fact. Thank you for your work, Adrian, and I hope that your cat keeps on providing you with fun companionship! Pets are awesome! My sweet Himalayan kitty Tommy Charles sends a shout out “meow” to Nemo!

It made my blood boil when some news outlets blamed their music for the crime. It's not fair how the media only makes a big deal out of a murderer's musical preferences when it's metal or metal adjacent. I would like to hear about a horrific murder where the killer or killers had Ariana Grande or Luke Bryan as their favorite music for once.
