We went to Owyhee 2 weeks ago and it was amazing despite the heat wave.

@@Venture2Roam I miss it being in mine! Hahaha! The Rubicon isn’t bad to have now but I’d rather be back in Oregon these days.

It looks like you traveled to the most popular areas and at a very popular time. I have traveled these areas many times and have not seen large numbers of people. To not have crowds avoid the busy seasons and go OFF the main tracks. There are vast areas out there to explore beyond the "popular" locations. You missed a great camping spot at the top of the hill out of Leslie Gulch. There is a large rock stock pile site to the north,
@RogueElementАй бұрын
@@SkylinersYeti there was vehicles in both spots up top and even in the rock quarry. We had a few friends go up mid week the following week and it was packed then too but I heard it’s a ghost town in the colder months

@@RogueElement My trips have been early spring, fall and winter. We paddled the lower Owyhee last spring at 9,000 CFS. Limited number of rafts on the river but take out was full. We also traveled the trails north of Lessie Gulch and saw no one for 3 days searching for wild horses.

This is why I don't condone geo-tagging. If people want to find places and are willing to put hard work into doing so, those are the only ones I want out there. If they're too lazy to research they're likely too lazy to leave the places cleaner than when they get there.

Do you think KZbin and social media has impacted public lands in a negative way when seeing such an increase in activity? Public lands is public space….thats often trashed. Like you said; good to see so many enjoying it, but there’s a price.

@@cliff4769 geotagging on Instagram has had a major negative effect on trails and public lands. They don’t need advertised and some influencers don’t understand that but at the same time don’t educate their followers on etiquette and respecting the sites. Videos like these are showing the locations but we try to at least give some kind of education while showing how amazing these places are

@@RogueElement Someone made a location pin on google maps and posted pics of my secret swimming hole back home. Like it was SECRET secret that had managed to stay secret for decades while being only 15 minutes from a big city. And all I can wonder is "What on earth did they hope to accomplish with this"? The park has a "known" swimming hole that is completely trashed. The secret swimming hole was both untouched and actually a better swimming hole. Now that will be trashed too in a couple years I'm sure.

@@XJapanGonnaGiveItToYa-cd4xj that really sucks!!! Just shows the dangers of geotagging

In a place like this, I don't think geotagging is an issue because it's easily accessible and available on the map with just a mention of what it is. The biggest thing that pisses me off about the KZbinrs and people like that is they monetize off the public lands but when it's time to fight to keep them open they disappear like rats. The BLM is constantly trying to close these places down, The Owyees, San Rafael Swell, tons of places around Moab, etc, etc. The immediate reaction to that is that well people are trashing the place, that is a red herring (although it does happen of course) What they really want to do is not allow access by roads and turn it all into wilderness areas. So what is wrong with that? You can just walk in! Well, not everyone has the ability to be mobile on their own and closure is NOT management. Anyway, these idiots will just move on to the next public land to make their videos about their morning coffee, sell the audience the latest must-have items their sponsors give them for free, and then push on. You guys captured the beauty of your trip amazingly

@@NigelNaughton thanks and you made some great points. I don’t mind people monitizing off it, it’s ridiculously expensive creating content like that but the geotagging is how people find out about these locations now. Before, it was word of mouth and the occasional travel book but social media has taken some hidden gems and blown them up past recognition. If you get bored, looks up Tamolich Blue Pool in Oregon which has been closed several times due to crowds, garbage and unsafe activities. Now what we absolutely agree on is the majority of these influencers and KZbinrs do NOT do jack squat to prevent this nor do they make the land better like trail clean-ups, educate people or make positive changes and I bet a lot of them have never voiced opinion in town halls against crazy anti off-roaders who have a big voice and influence. That needs to change and we hope people listen when we talk about it in our videos. That’s also why we made t-shirts that say “influencers suck” on the back lol

there a bunch of dispersed camping areas north of Owyhee are in danger of being closed by BLM. They even posted signs saying that that trashes, human waste, RV sewage being dumped directly into the river are the reasons why.
