When I heard some of the more intense parts, with the choir, I *had* to just stop and turn it up. I thought New Babbage had some awesome music, but Orison greatly outshines that. You and your collaborators did an absolutely stunning job and I cannot wait to hear what comes next

when i saw the first leaked images of orison, crusader, the clouds...i was like meh, that looks really really bad. but that improved with the ISC show and when i fired up the PTU for the first time i had a big grin on my face the whole time, its simply incredible and i'd say that this time music and art design, graphics are all contributing equally to the experience. flying away or to orison while this soundtrack is playing is simply incredible, its pure goose bumps moments. i cant remember the last time a game put me in such awe.

The audio design is on point for Orison. It really is an aspect rarely being appreciated since many people just look over it. I only recently realized how sound design impacts the gaming experience significantly with examples like Orison.

The curse of the sound engineer haha. If done absolutely right, people shouldn't even notice it's there at all. You're absolutely right. SD's are one of the great unsung heroes of media, but especially games
@Meuduso1
@Meuduso1 3 жыл бұрын
I'm a really auditory person and I tend to notice and appreciate music and sound design a lot. As far as I've seen, sound design can really make or break a game but is still one of the a bit thankless jobs. If the sounds aren't quite right, the guns lack that satisfying UMPH, the a can sounds too metallic or sand sounds too hard, everybody will notice it and it will nag at good gameplay and disrupt great graphics. But if the sound design is top notch, the average person won't notice much unless something stands out in particular, like a special gun that you only fire a few times etc. but simple steps, fabrics, metals etc. sounding right and sounding good is something a lot of people tend to overhear. Music has this syndrome a bit less since standout examples will be noticed by everyone, especially when the music is taking up more space like for example in Doom where half of the fun comes from the stellar soundtrack. Pedro hit it the ball out of the park and into the sun with most soundtracks in the game so far and after New Babbage's soundtrack I thought he couldn't top it anymore, like I literally always mention it over voice chat when I'm landing at or departing from microTech but the madlad went and created Orison's piece, without making NB's worse or topping it but by making something different and wonderful

I didn't even know Chris Roberts. I never played any of his games. But the first time I saw Hurston and heard its music, it was clear to me. First of all. This took tons of work, its impossible that these people were stealing money or wasting it. They're making something huge and complicated. Secondly, music is usually an indication that you're looking at something of great awesomeness. And Hurston's OST, and SC in general... thats the sound of a masterpiece, and thats how it sounds something made with care.

No doubt. He's that guy who says "I don't want you to tell me why it won't work, I want you to tell me how you're going to make it work" Because software is just about the closest thing we have to actual magic. It's not a question of whether something is possible or not, it's a question of how much time and effort you are willing to put into making it work (and of course, a little bit of "eventually we will have hardware capable of doing this in real time" lol.)

It was....SO special being on the stream this footage was cut from. I'm SO glad I caught it. Being able to ride along as Morphologis experienced this all for the first time was like duplicating the same emotional experience I had the night before. It was so moving, and so timely. There aren't enough words for these kinds of moments, only that feeling in your gut that you got the privilege to be a part of something phenomenal. Critical as I am of Star Citizen, there's no getting around that feeling...and no denying that somehow, Star Citizen continues to be the place that feelings like these are manifested.

Exactly. You can’t call something a scam when the product actually exists and is amazing, if unfinished. I don’t think it would ever be fair to call star citizen a scam, even if it is truly never completed, it will have simply been a project far too ambitious to be achievable, but in my eyes, that doesn’t make something a scam. I believe most people invested in star citizen at this point are invested in a dream, and the possibility of making it a reality, and are aware of that.

years and years ago when I first walked around my dingy asteroid hanger with a small aurora in it, I was excited by the prospect of having the ability to just simply take off from a planet and land on a moon with no loading screens. Never could I have imagined that we would come this far. When they started putting together Area 18 I was amazed, then when I landed on the shores of a massive lake on Hurston I was once again hit with that "Yeah this is why I stick around" feeling. Flying around Microtech and discovering the pockets of green fertile land dotted across the snowy landscape really made me catch my breath because I couldn't believe that it was even possible to put something like that together. And then, last night I stepped out onto the roof of the apartment building on Orison as Stanton disappeared on the horizon and I just stood there staring. I know that sounds so lame but I can't describe the feeling. The wind blowing the cherry blossoms around and the glow of the city areas below and the gentle music drifting in and out almost like it was the wind hit different and I don't know why I'm still typing this overly long comment but holy shit I still can't believe this is real

Visuals are great for a few seconds but cannot replace actual games. No one has ever questioned the competence of CiG artists. Those people are amazing . Its the management , CR on down that have failed the backers because they could reign in the scope of the game, could not make informed decisions from damage models to 32bit vs. 64bit, to predicting the need for mplayer support, "persistence and server meshing" ahead of time. And on top of that, the engine is in C++ and has been a dog for the coders from the start. That means bugs, and every bug fix is a trade off causing more bugs and the code gets harder and harder to maintain and upgrade. As a dev i sht myself when i saw bugsmashers screen with at least 20!!!!! nested if conditions. No one can safely work in that environment and not break stuff.

You had amazing shots in there but I was smashed back into my childhood when I slowly walked out of my room in the habs, stepped on the balkony, took a trip to the roof, watched the sun rise and then took a stroll through this city in the clouds with unimaginable scale. The sounds are spot on. I got HEAVY goosebumps when I watched up and saw one of these massive transport ships honk and slowly float over the city. My god. Everyone who thinks the images and videos they see are still "meh" has to go there themselves and not just run around aimlesslesy, but just walk around and take it in. This experience is magical. And I'm saying this as someone who has been gaming his whole life and has gotten more and more disinterested in games for the past 10 years as all you get is something you've already gotten in one form or another. Star Citizen is the game I'll play until the end. Been a backer since 2013 and it's the only "game" that has brought me back again and again and I can't stop the crave of finally being able to actually play it. I also had a Vaksai fighter with all reverse engineered components. Man... i miss it.

I hope they go back some day and redo the old landing zones to be on par with this. Lorville and arccorp have always felt like elaborate skyboxes to tiny shopping centers. New babbage did a lot to improve the feeling of being in a city but this is just on a whole new level. It's the first city they've made that actually lives up to the concept art.

And all those clouds are there in full. It's not some background plane or a floating sprite. It's volumetric. You can reach them, fly through them, even hide inside. This game is the closest thing to space matrix.

Morph you express your feelings so well I find it amazing, the way you described people growing up not being easily impressed anymore pinpointed exactly what I (and I suppose loads more) have been feeling for some time now, it's become so rare for me to face something that truly just makes me go WOW, and Star Citizen is definitely one of those things! I rarely go the verse even if I pledged around 2 years ago with an Avenger, but each time I go back I'm just blown away, and seeing your videos I'll surely give it a go with the next update, so thank you for keeping the flame alive!

Definitely the most beautiful location I have seen in ANY game. The design, colours and sounds mash together so well that my spine gets tingles lol. Glad I am supporting it. Sure it's taking it's time... but that's what happens when you making a game where the tech doesn't exist yet lol.

I agree. Videos and stills don't do it justice. You have to experience all of it. The approach to Crusader, the flight down to Orison, walking around, and even exiting atmo (which can take a while). It's absolutely awe inspiring.

I visited Orison for the first time in early PTU, and I had the same reaction Morphologis did, walking around for two solid hours, staying up an hour past my bedtime, just taking it all in. I knew that Morph would be able to eloquently express the timeless feeling you get in Orison, and couldn't wait to hear what he would have to say. The setting is gorgeous, but as he said, the music rises to the task as well... it is ambient, but with trembling notes of cello or some similar instrument that remind you of the space whales we are soon to see, and that bring you to a reflective, emotional state without your even noticing. The whole place is a masterwork.

Man this video absolutely NAILS how I felt waking up in my hab at Green Circle for the first time and looking out of that window. Walking out and seeing not just Windows to the amazing vista, but a balcony I could step out on to look out across the expanse of platforms. The whole time that gorgeous music playing that somehow felt like it had been tailored just for my personal experience of walking around Orison. Even flying up away from Orison, through the clouds, the music seemed to be telling my story of exploring this beautiful, technical marvel! The devs deserve to feel proud of Crusader, because they absolutely knocked it out of the park.

The music is what got me here. Here, the music sets it apart from “a nice rich city” to something mythic, something legendary, something truly special. It is a soundtrack worthy of grand classical temples, or proud ruins persisting through time. Something venerated, hallowed. It made Crusader itself feel like there was something far deeper at work than just the surface beauty. Like a deeper meaning of it all, and an invitation to live and relive the odyssey it remembers.

Star Wars Galaxies for me....when I stepped out of my HAB after looking out my window for the first time... I actually paused, and said, "No way. Are you fucking serious? Am I dreaming right now?" From my first steps out of the hab, to the balcony... it was something I'll never forget. When I first saw the clouds, I had hope for them looking better. Never in my life did I expect my expectations to be, not just SHATTERED, but Quantum OBLITERATED. I'm only looking foward to the next step now. Dynamic planet based clouds on a rotating planet, on a sphereical planet. Once they achieve that, it will be the Sci-Fi experience that I haven't been able to capture since Star War Galaxies, even without the Pioneer. I'm glad that I was along for the ride to know what things were like before, and to know, that things will be even better in the future. Every new location is a design upgrade, a more experienced team. This latest location is, in my honest opinion, THE most well designed city I've ever seen in a video game. Period.

I feel exactly the same. I am 39 now and i am not playing as i used to since i feel games has lost all of its innovations. Devs are repeating the same formula all over and investors are pushing the devs to release earlier and earlier. One perfect example is Cyberpunk..... you can clearly see a masterpiece there but it needed way longer time in development. I am actually glad Chris is pushing for his vision to be realized and not just pump out a worse game.
