The curse of the sound engineer haha. If done absolutely right, people shouldn't even notice it's there at all. You're absolutely right. SD's are one of the great unsung heroes of media, but especially games
@Meuduso13 жыл бұрын
I'm a really auditory person and I tend to notice and appreciate music and sound design a lot. As far as I've seen, sound design can really make or break a game but is still one of the a bit thankless jobs. If the sounds aren't quite right, the guns lack that satisfying UMPH, the a can sounds too metallic or sand sounds too hard, everybody will notice it and it will nag at good gameplay and disrupt great graphics. But if the sound design is top notch, the average person won't notice much unless something stands out in particular, like a special gun that you only fire a few times etc. but simple steps, fabrics, metals etc. sounding right and sounding good is something a lot of people tend to overhear. Music has this syndrome a bit less since standout examples will be noticed by everyone, especially when the music is taking up more space like for example in Doom where half of the fun comes from the stellar soundtrack. Pedro hit it the ball out of the park and into the sun with most soundtracks in the game so far and after New Babbage's soundtrack I thought he couldn't top it anymore, like I literally always mention it over voice chat when I'm landing at or departing from microTech but the madlad went and created Orison's piece, without making NB's worse or topping it but by making something different and wonderful

Exactly. You can’t call something a scam when the product actually exists and is amazing, if unfinished. years and years ago when I first walked around my dingy asteroid hanger with a small aurora in it, I was excited by the prospect of having the ability to just simply take off from a planet and land on a moon with no loading screens. When they started putting together Area 18 I was amazed, then when I landed on the shores of a massive lake on Hurston I was once again hit with that "Yeah this is why I stick around" feeling. Flying around Microtech and discovering the pockets of green fertile land dotted across the snowy landscape really made me catch my breath because I couldn't believe that it was even possible to put something like that together. And then, last night I stepped out onto the roof of the apartment building on Orison as Stanton disappeared on the horizon and I just stood there staring. I know that sounds so lame but I can't describe the feeling. Visuals are great for a few seconds but cannot replace actual games. No one has ever questioned the competence of CiG artists. Those people are amazing . Its the management , CR on down that have failed the backers because they could reign in the scope of the game, could not make informed decisions from damage models to 32bit vs. 64bit, to predicting the need for mplayer support, "persistence and server meshing" ahead of time. And on top of that, the engine is in C++ and has been a dog for the coders from the start. That means bugs, and every bug fix is a trade off causing more bugs and the code gets harder and harder to maintain and upgrade. As a dev i sht myself when i saw bugsmashers screen with at least 20!!!!! nested if conditions. No one can safely work in that environment and not break stuff.

I visited Orison for the first time in early PTU, and I had the same reaction Morphologis did, walking around for two solid hours, staying up an hour past my bedtime, just taking it all in. I knew that Morph would be able to eloquently express the timeless feeling you get in Orison, and couldn't wait to hear what he would have to say. The setting is gorgeous, but as he said, the music rises to the task as well... it is ambient, but with trembling notes of cello or some similar instrument that remind you of the space whales we are soon to see, and that bring you to a reflective, emotional state without your even noticing. The whole place is a masterwork.

I was actually shaking because of how immersive Orison is. Especially in the club thing

Man this video absolutely NAILS how I felt waking up in my hab at Green Circle for the first time and looking out of that window. Walking out and seeing not just Windows to the amazing vista, but a balcony I could step out on to look out across the expanse of platforms. The whole time that gorgeous music playing that somehow felt like it had been tailored just for my personal experience of walking around Orison. Even flying up away from Orison, through the clouds, the music seemed to be telling my story of exploring this beautiful, technical marvel! The devs deserve to feel proud of Crusader, because they absolutely knocked it out of the park.

I just started playing a few days ago and stumbled across that place because I wanted to log out inside crusader but then saw that as I flew in and new it was my new home :) your description is just so perfect. I literally was tearing up walking around and I didn't even know why until watching this. Star citizen can be so much more if its gonna be any more like this.

I don't know why but.. when i see Orison for the first time (yersterday), it makes me want to travel the world, the real one. Btw Crusader is majestic and beautiful.

I honestly LOL'd in astonishment at how amazing this area looks, holy cow it's stunning. Edit: I also want to add that I'm in love with the music for crusader really reminds me of one of my childhood fav games homeworld.

Ah yes, you're right, I can hear those homeworld vibes.

The music is what got me here. Here, the music sets it apart from “a nice rich city” to something mythic, something legendary, something truly special. It is a soundtrack worthy of grand classical temples, or proud ruins persisting through time. Something venerated, hallowed. It made Crusader itself feel like there was something far deeper at work than just the surface beauty. Like a deeper meaning of it all, and an invitation to live and relive the odyssey it remembers.

Star Wars Galaxies for me....when I stepped out of my HAB after looking out my window for the first time... I actually paused, and said, "No way. Are you fucking serious? Am I dreaming right now?" From my first steps out of the hab, to the balcony... it was something I'll never forget. When I first saw the clouds, I had hope for them looking better. Never in my life did I expect my expectations to be, not just SHATTERED, but Quantum OBLITERATED. I'm only looking foward to the next step now. Dynamic planet based clouds on a rotating planet, on a sphereical planet. Once they achieve that, it will be the Sci-Fi experience that I haven't been able to capture since Star War Galaxies, even without the Pioneer. I'm glad that I was along for the ride to know what things were like before, and to know, that things will be even better in the future. Every new location is a design upgrade, a more experienced team. This latest location is, in my honest opinion, THE most well designed city I've ever seen in a video game. Period.

I feel exactly the same. I am 39 now and i am not playing as i used to since i feel games has lost all of its innovations. Devs are repeating the same formula all over and investors are pushing the devs to release earlier and earlier. One perfect example is Cyberpunk..... you can clearly see a masterpiece there but it needed way longer time in development. I am actually glad Chris is pushing for his vision to be realized and not just pump out a worse game.
