​@@Breqs98 Kinda agree, but at the same time Zerator always preferred growing his events slowly but in a controlled manner, rather than rushing to glory and falling off right after. Lots of people were disappointed when he announced the end of TM cups, but he and his team worked on a new format to make a healthy esports competition while keeping the spirit of previous editions. He doesn't want his tournaments to be international hits, but rather a great show and a challenge for the players. Another explanation is that the TM cups were his first actual events and they were maybe not comfortable with how to proceed regarding streaming rights a few years ago.

First TM tournament I've ever watched, and I'm truly impressed, maybe a little awestruck. Wirtual's commentary was almost as good as his driving skills, and the level of competition was incredible. The last 30 mins were VERY intense. Great job from everyone involved!

the finalist format favors him a lot, he's all in or all out every map, which balances out for gaining points and getting to finalist, but when he is in finalist he's the fastest and most likely to win most maps

I've always thought the same but the other day I sort of reframed it in my head. He's not the most consistent at driving at the pace he drives, but he's also basically the only one capable of being as consistent as he is at that pace. He's flat out the fastest when he's driving well and borderline untouchable, he crashes not infrequently, but if anyone else would try to drive Gwen's pace as he does they would not be able to touch his consistency at that pace. I remember I think it was Pac talking about one of the battles Solary had vs G1 and Carl and him were saying that if Gwen doesn't crash they basically can't win, because his pace is just too quick. So it's not simply that he isn't consistent but he's incredibly fast, it's that although he isn't as consistent because he has such incredible pace, if you tried to take another player and require Gwen's pace, they would crash so much more frequently than Gwen where it's just not sustainable.

I was rooting for Gwen after we got the 4 year-old backstory, the risky finish he gave first map, and the fear that he struck into Carl Jr. The idea of a up-in-coming player, with a long, intimate relationship with the sport, was cast into my mind. Whether that's true or not, I have no clue, but that's the idea I got. I believed in the impossible and it was so hype when he won. I can't fucking believe he came back from a 4 finalist situation to win. We could've had a Carl Jr. victory a map earlier but Bren managed to clutch up the 1 time that Gwen didn't win that map to snipe the 1st place from him. I was absolutely on the edge of my fucking seat when the map changed. Logically, it would make no sense for Gwen to win if its not on the map where he was known to consistently come first, but I believed, and I rooted, and it happened, and I'm psych'd. Thank you for roping me in and keeping me engaged for 2 hours WIrtual. You are an excellent caster.
