I suspect that what Anish realized just after playing ...Qb6 was that ...Qb6 doesn't work. That's different from seeing ...Ng4.

Guki was in New delhi just 16 hrs before the game. Last whole month, post WCC, didn't play a game. Reach Wijk 3 hrs before the match. Still didnt trade bishop and knight. Made his intentions clear that He is going for a win irrespective of the risks. Was he lucky? Yes. But you make your own luck.

A slight correction. The award Gukesh received is not a civilian award but the highest award given to a sport person (Dhyanchand Khel ratna award). Also another info Vishwanath Anand sir was the 1st person to get this award.

If India has a defined system for the awards that separates civilian and athletes, then alright, but I think what Hikaru meant by “one of the highest civilian awards” is that it’s a high ranking award that can be won by civilans (non-military personnel), and not directly referring to the “civilian awards” classification in the Indian award system.

It was a lot more tricky then you think. First, you have to see Qb6 which is a backwards queen move. Second, you have to see that after Qd8 (preventing Qb6!!) there is still a mate… in 30 seconds. I think from a practical perspective the Rxg2 exchange sacrifice was a much easier find with more time on the clock.
