Mike Tyson summarised this phenomena in his book "Undisputed Truth". He said that Cus always taught him that fighting was something he did, not who he was. Which was why Tyson said; that even though he was disappointed to lose the heavyweight championship, he wasn't crushed, and that he knew he would never come back after retirement. Fighters who are never the same after a loss, are the ones who peg their whole identity to fighting and being the best, therefore once they lose a fight, they lose their identity.

It's important to remember that Zingano getting clowned by Rousey came right on the heels of her husband's suicide. A tragedy followed by a high profile loss like that could derail even the strongest fighter's career.

@Oz19764 жыл бұрын
Um, maybe because after his first loss to Lyoto he went on a 4 fight win streak beating Thiago Silva, Rampage Jackson, Tito Ortiz and Phil Davis which earned him a LHW title shot against Jon Jones? Pretty sure that's a GOOD recovery of your career after your first loss.
@horus30k3 жыл бұрын
A bit unfair to Zingano to not only omit the many injuries she struggled with before fighting Rousey but her husband’s suicide. She had a really long road and it’s a credit to her that she was able to come back and earn that title fight all over again.

Cody Garbrandt could possibly make this list. Was undefeated when he beat Dominick Cruz and became Champion. Then two consecutive losses to TJ EPO Dillasnake. Then a loss to Pedro Munhoz. From undefeated to a 3 fight skid. But he's returning and says he's focused on reclaiming the belt and is still top 10 ranked. We'll see what happens.

@closinginonclosure5 жыл бұрын
@@rippie___ That's for sure. There's some tough competition in the division. Cruz is coming back too. I feel like Cody firing on all cylinders can beat anyone in the division. Like the Cody who beat Cruz. He gets in trouble when he starts getting reckless and trading shots. But will his confidence ever be the same. So much of fighting is mental. I'm definitely curious to see how he'll look.

@@closinginonclosure all true and i will say i like garbrant but his chin has been exposed like yous said if he gets in to a decent exchange it a huge chance lights out or if he avoids the crazy exchanges and still get caught with a decent punch and lights out...his chin is just not the same
