It did take him almost three minutes to notice that hanging knight. His checkmate was excellent and all, but he was only so behind from playing so badly early on. He really glazed over that part where he sucked, and honed in on his great ending :( I'm only 1100 player myself but that was hard to watch.

I honestly think he should play a slightly longer variant. I know what he's said about not wanting to go too long, to get too serious... but he's inherently got a time disadvantage from talking to the viewers, and the more analysis he does (and the better he gets) the worse that'll be for him on shorter controls.

I think the forced checkmates are pretty much the nicest checkmates indeed. By the way, just had some thoughts on the analysis, but with the black knight blocking the rook check, black would have enough time to push pawn to G6. Yes, you'd stack the rook and queen to try to mate, but he's got options. It would take quite a few moves more to put him in check with his king ending up on H4, your pawns and king moving in to box him in for final checkmate to make that happen. If he decides to push his pawn to H6 instead for an escape after the knight blocks, you can box him in with his king ending up on G5, your queen ends up on D6, you push a pawn to G4 and your rook takes on G7 for checkmate. havebefore that, but it probably would have become very close had you been forced to find another checkmate.

Okay another dumb question Near the end of the game, couldn’t black have moved his night to F8, this would’ve forced Lion to either take with his pawn or his rook If he takes with rook then black could take with their queen which would make lion take with pawn which would be followed with the king taking the promoted pawn And if lion takes with his pawn then black could just take with his king

Here's what each Chess piece does: Image: Giphy/Free-game-it • The rook (also called the bishop) moves like a knight or a human on its hind legs. It is a very strong piece that moves on a four-square axis, but also leaves the opponent's rook (which is a mule that looks like a sugarcube but isn't), to block a direct attack. So if a rook directly attacks, the opponent can always quickly block it with his rook. Advertisement • The bishop (or queen in chess) moves very slowly on a six-square axis. It can also reach any square
