He's at an interesting level of skill where he's better than most if not all of his audience but sill can make mistakes that are simultaneously humorous and educating. In addition, he's clearly enjoying this series (presumably because it's challenging in an accomplishable way and is a game he enjoys) which makes the banter and gameplay massively more enjoyable. To oversimplify matters: it's probably skill + challenge + player enjoyment + viewer enjoyment/engagement that all coalesce into what has genuinely become one of his best series. But what do I know? I only took Intro Psych.

For those counting at home, the reason the computer loves the position in game 1 that NL didn't is it's a free pawn that ALSO threatens a really mean check with queen to B1. The only move is block with the rook, and it's not pretty for white.

When NL’s sloppy game has 91 accuracy and a good game for me has 80 accuracy...
@joshuadu23084 жыл бұрын
Accuracy can be misleading if you're in a winning/simplified position - it's harder to make the best/good moves when you're in a heavily-involved middlegame. The other thing is if you have fewer moves in the game/resign early: making 90 good moves out of 100 is easier than making 18 good moves out of 20.
@normalmighty4 жыл бұрын
Meanwhile I had my first online games yesterday, and one of them came out with an accuracy of 8.5 for me and 7.9 for my opponent. The key moments was this massive wall alternating between "Blunder" and "Game changer - you responded perfectly to their blunder!" The game ended when I had only my king left, they were 2 moves from mate for a solid 10 moves, and I won because their time ran out when I was pinned and one move from being mated. 10/10, I'm ready for the big leagues!

Not gonna lie, I’ve always been interested in chess but never felt good enough or intelligent enough to really play and be a challenge. However after watching NL play and learning some things from here and there, then getting into the late game in some of these videos and me predicting a move that he then does makes me feel good because even tho I don’t know why the move would exactly be strong I’m learning things I’ve always had a genuine interest in. Love the vids egg. Also love the analysis afterwards as it helps me understand why certain moves would be strong or not.

Since you've said you need some more knowledge in d4 openers, and I understand you're a man of zane, I recommend the Benko gambit, also known as Volga. Basically, you sac the a and b pawns for quick activation of multiple pieces, and if the opponent doesn't want to capture your pawns you can quite easily back into a normal d4 opener!

At 10:30 wouldn't Rook from e8 to e3 be a really good move? If they take with d3 they lose protection on their d1 Rook, which you take and threaten mate in 1 by moving queen to e2, and if they take with their queen you get to capture it.
