You're right. It was Jason Derulo's 2nd #1 on Hot100 but his last one was about 10-15 years ago. Savage Love peaked at #8 on hot100, but when he did the remix with BTS members it went straight to #1 (but he never gave BTS the probs and took the credit for himself).

My gripe with this Docu is how he seems dismissive of the old style before HYYH era. The change from agressive hiphop to a more vulnerable image was not just done to get noticed, or to chart more, its also because they were growing up and having different feelings. They were now starting to enter adulthood and all the anxiety that comes with it.

53:53 i disagree, many companies *are* trying to copy bts - they have made up actual teams (no joke) to study the rise and success of bts, producers who collaborate with bts get asked to make songs for these other big companies in kpop just like the ones bts has (sleep deez who worked on my time said he got asked to make a my time esque song by a big kpop company, the butter team said similar things, etc.). an sm group i won't name literally made a song called LIFE IS STILL GOING ON. 😭 and furthermore, some groups like superm were CREATED to emulate what bts has done. yet.. ultimately, no one can really copy bts. that's the reason why you get the feeling no one is copying them. not because they're not trying, BUT BECAUSE THEY'RE FAILING. as a producer who worked on butter said, companies have asked them to remake something butter-like for other groups but you just can't do it without the bts flavour, which cannot be forged. only bangtan genuinely can be bangtan.

Thanks for putting this on KZbin! Enjoyed the discussion. One thing to keep in mind with how they were formed, which the documentaries don't really talk about... There were apparently many other trainees between 2010 and 2012. It wasn't as though Bighit just picked these 7 guys. Just like any other K pop group, there were a bunch of guys who went through training and development. People left, others were dropped, etc... before these 7 were finalized. I think RM even wanted to quit at one point because he originally thought he'd be in a rap group, not an idol group with dancing. Jin, despite being picked off the street, had to learn singing and dancing and prove himself. And, as they showed, JHope also wanted to leave. It's honestly somewhat a miracle that these 7 different guys ended up in the final group. Any other iteration probably wouldn't have worked as well because each one of them brings something different to the table.

Your conversation about musical prejudice and what people think of others based on what music they listen to or write off entire genres of music just because it's not the norm hit me hard to the point where I've got tears rolling down my face. I'm a 37 year old male and super big into gaming and anime so most of my friends are people I talk and play with online. A couple years ago I cut ties with a majority of my friends that I had known for 7+ years because of toxic masculinity and prejudice against kpop and anime. They would constantly look down on them and make comments about me as a person based off some of the music I listen to or what I choose to spend some of my free time doing just because it's not the "popular" or "hard" thing to be into. It was so demoralizing and I never had a release from those feelings I've had inside until just now. Love the way you guys converse about every topic and give an actual opinion even if it might not be popular. Having an opinion and expanding on it is the most important thing to me rather than just writing something off.

Thank you to Jerrick for showing appreciaton to Jin at the beginning and thank you guys for the reaction :) this is one of the best if not the best BTS guide currently, the guy on the video is right....what set them apart is they touch other topics never handle by other groups, at least western...in this side of the world the big record companies most of the time manage the artist career and tell them what to sing, how to dress or even behave towards the public etc but with BTS they were lucky enough to be with a company to let them have the artistic freedom they want... some people can say whatever they want about Mr Bang but he saw the potential and allow them to work on their own terms, he really trust on them even from a young age, I remember been fan of Backstreet boys and N'Sync back in the days and I still appreciate them and their music but with BTS was not just the dance coreo or their physical appearance but also about their lyrics, their charisma, their sense of humor and since then I never look back.... I felt so welcome on the fandom and I never felt that before, they're on a league of their own and I don't think another group like them can be replicated.... about what Lou said actually some have tried to replicated them, I remember seen groups in X country releasing songs that are a copycat of a BTS song, I remember once Simon Cowell even mentioned about create a group with the BTS formula kind of (if I am wrong please correct me) but you CAN'T fabricate charisma and talent, you have it or not, period....Borahae guys! 💜

He believed in artists writing their own story, when he heard Namjoon rap the first audition he said this kid needs to be listened too and build the group around Joon that's why he is the leader. Age in order Eldest is Jin then suga, Jhope, RM, Jimin,V,Jungkook Honestly about the military, we don't like talking about it much lots of other fans want them because they thinking with bts gone they can get the spotlight. The whole Grammy thing actually when I heard they were nominated I knew they wouldn't win. Why? The "academy" members are current or former members of boards on the biggest global record labels based in America. Long story short they were not getting a piece of their checks. I think recently Colombia records got some distribution rights. And HBO has 5% share in their movie documentary rights streaming world wide. So I feel this year their success with the PTD concerts and singles they have too much likeability and visability and the board members have a piece of the pie. Btw BTS have amercian artists basically working for them as HYBE is now public and each member was given shares so they not only get money from royalties and sponsorships they are the boss now👊🏾

This is part of what makes me upset about their Grammy noms to begin with. The freaking behind the scenes politics and corruption. I don't think it should have been Dynamite that got nominated last year, not in a year where ON, Blackswan and the whole Map of the Soul 7 album were overlooked. It shouldn't have taken an English language track (or gibberish because most of those lyrics) to get them a nomination, especially considering that Dynamite is vastly mediocre compared to their entire discography. But this year Butter. even though a better song, is basically a repeat. BE and Life Goes On deserve more recognition. And also this song does a great job of filling the pockets of the CEO of Columbia records who also co-wrote it. I never liked BTS's relationship with Columbia, because the only time they ever got off their asses to truly promote BTS' music was for their English tracks. I hope their new US distributor does better. Anyway, I would love for BTS to win a Grammy, but I would prefer that Grammy go to them for a song or album that was "from them"... the whole reason many of us fell in love with BTS was their personal connections to the lyrics and theme of the song, and I just feel like Dynamite and Butter are lacking in that area and are just too formulated to get radio play. Sorry my tangent diverted from your original topic, I probably shouldn't feel this passionately about this.

So these songs is getting the back hand push other songs like black swans were supposed to get because again higher stakes for them.i like the songs don't get me wrong however the lyrics are too simple and shallow. This is why, whilst watching the rise of bangtan ARMY truly DEMANDED with mob like tendencies (lol) for BTS music to be played because they are always trying to tell us what kind of music we should like which is mostly trash. I haven't watch the Grammys since 2013 and I haven't taken seriously ( I think two or three years ago I heard Cardi b spread her legs with her ratchet dancers to those in the front row. I love what Ty(?) said about "evolve or evaporate". While most artists are stuck in a genre - either bc they wanna stay in the comfort zone of their style or afraid they'd lose their fans if they evolve - it's interesting to note that despite all the changes in BTS concepts, image, style of music, and how they hop from one genre to another - the BTS ARMY still very much supports. We are that invested into their music that we still manage to be loyal and devoted to bangtan. Fortunately, the boys make really great music and high quality contents, plus their genuine personality which make it easier for armys to be this devoted and loyal. I didn't like hiphop/rap when I started liking BTS during Wings era but now I do, and I even came to like western rappers because of them (I know african american rappers are the OG when it comes to hiphop culture, it's just that BTS called my attention to it). So I guess, it's still the music, the lyricism and talent in general that pulls us to BTS, regardless of the genre. Once again, it's been a very insightful discussion. Thanks and borahae 💜

@@REDEMPTION46 also, not sure you realized it. but there are almost always questions/problems regarding their age in English explanations and subs, since Korean age and international age are figured differently. therefore seeing that JK was born Sept 1, 1997 and that he moved into the dorms on June 4, 2011 - he was 13 years old international at the time, 15 yrs old Korean age as is shown on lots of translation subtitles on interviewss when JK talks about the guys raising him and things like that. (JK said that the number on his Butter placard was the date he moved into the dorm with the guys; so 110604 means June 4, 2011.) international vs korean age at birth intl age = considered 0 years old from birth (start by stating days old, then months old until) Korean age = considered 1 yr old from birth V born Dec 30, 1995 V intl age = 0 on Dec 30, 1995 V Korean age = 1 yr old on Dec 30, 1995 Jungkook born Sept 1, 1997 Jungkook intl age = 0 on Sept 1, 1997 Jungkook Korean age = 1 yr old on Sept 1, 1997 at the new year (Jan 1st) each year intl age = nothing happens Korean age = everyone ages up one year V born Dec 30, 1995 and on New Year's Day Jan 1, 1996 V intl age = 2 days old on Jan 1, 1996 V Korean age = 2 yrs old on Jan 1, 1996 Jungkook born Sept 1, 1997 and on New Year's Day Jan 1, 1998 Jungkook intl age = 4 moths old on Jan 1, 1998 Jungkook Korean age = 2 yrs old on Jan 1, 1998 at your actual date of birth intl age = age up one year Korean age = celebrate your birth day and continue with the age you've been calling yourself since last Jan 1 V born Dec 30, 1995, so on Dec 30, 1996, his birthday (both have celebrations on the actual birthday date) V intl age = 1 yrs old on Dec 30, 1996 V Korean age = 2 yrs old STILL on Dec 30, 1996 Jungkook born Sept 1, 1997, so on Sept 1, 1998 Jungkook intl age = 1 yrs old on Sept 1, 1998 Jungkook Korean age = 2 yrs old on Sept 1, 1998 so, that makes all the videos where they guys talk about their ages when this or that happened a little harder to follow, to make it the international age always subtract at least 1 year, if not 2 depending on when in the year something happened and how that coincides to their actual birth date.

(RM is the fourth oldest ;-) Jin, Suga, J-hope, RM, Jimin, V Jungkook! :-) )What an interesting conversation you had! Uhm... Regarding the discussion about the input of each member in the music, well the rap-line are the main writers for sure, however, the others have their own solo music. As for group songs, we don't actually know, precisely, how the writing process goes. Maybe RM writes the lyrics, but they all confront each other about it. Think about Begin by Jungkook or Stigma by V: both the songs were written by RM but he did so following JK and V ideas. And my best bet would be that, in the same way they consult each other to decide who sings which part in the song, they discuss the lyrics together to be sure if everybody think they reflect properly the idea of the group. Moreover, being part of the group means having different kinds of input, I guess. Maybe RM or Suga or J-hope write the lyrics themself, but they wouldn't be able to do so if, for example, Jin wouldn't support them when they are depressed etc. I guess, what I mean to say is that contributing to something may happen in unexpected but still important ways.

I literally love your videos so much haha, please don't ever stop your debates/discussions at the end - I really enjoy listening to what you guys think :)) I thought that part where you were wondering whether their rookie music was really interesting. I personally believe that the messages of their songs have ALWAYS been authentic, they always spoke their truth and were vocal about things that mattered to them. But I do agree that the style or the aesthetic of the group did not always fit everyone. As you said, Jimin was not exactly the happiest but who comes to mind first is actually Jin. He was supposed to be this quiet and handsome person, the reserved visual. And knowing Jin, this is not him at all lol. Also this Gangsta persona, that was just not him. So I'm really happy to see him now, being the goofy and funny crackhead that he is (while also being 100% professional and skilled). He said that ever since Fire he was able to be more himself. So I think their lyrics and their songs have always been them, but it took them some time to find their style, their vibe and their direction. But they did that on their own and that way, that journey is meaningful as it is. And just like that I believe they'll never stop evolving and growing in new directions and as you guys said, that is such a positive thing!

Note that bang pd was the nex between them but they all had to put their asses to work on thei own to a point where it was literally give up having to go to clubs, dating, and do whatever the shit young pple do everyday in order to achieve a goal toghether, and they didnt do that obligated they decided to work hard, struggle with a lot of shit, and not give up so it takes a lot of resilience to do that and really have the level of integrity, work ethic and all those stuff thats needed to amaze such level of success.

30:24 Suga was actually a hologram in this performance because he had just underwent shoulder surgery. Fun Fact: since he was still recovering from surgery during the holidays,Suga was represented by a snowman, a cardboard cutout of himself, several phone calls, and a smaller photo of himself in RunBTS episodes.

also , i don't like how he's making it sound like their first albums were all about agressivness, the message was loud and clear it was about the korean school system who was fcked up at the time it was about students and society...., it was about kids having to settle for their parents dreams or what society excpected from them. their change in sound was literaly them growing as artists and talking about subjects that were relatable to them at their age
@REDEMPTION462 жыл бұрын
Lol if that’s what he got from the 1st few albums that’s his opinion 😂 Definitely agree with you on the part about them growing up. They matured and so did the music
@mono-mq2ph2 жыл бұрын
@@REDEMPTION46 i know that it's his opinion but that defeats the whole point of a documentary Don't you think? He's doing a docu about their story which means he needs to state facts from the source itself which is bts and how they explained their music.it's not about opinions it's about being objective that's what a docu is, lay facts without involving personal opinions so that people can get informed about them without a biased opinion from the creator.🥰

Oh groups are definitely copying BTS it’s just that they usually wait a year or 2 to do so. I usually don’t hold it against the groups tho bc it’s usually just the company coming to the logical conclusion that whatever BTS does is popular so let’s do it too (the idols themselves don’t have much say). The problem is, with that mindset/model, you’ll never catch up to BTS or become a BTS (trendsetter). I’d much prefer these companies start letting their idols make the kinda music they want (like how BigHit has ALWAYS done with BTS)

Some of my thoughts from your discussions: 1. ROCK MUSIC - One of the things you discussed was your different experiences with rock music in your lives. One genre that BTS has little on is rock. There have been rock/metal channels reacting to BTS throughout the years on youtube. One reactor did watch BTS recently with a rock/metal track they were rapping on & he did say that if BTS dropped a future album with just rock/metal, he would go pay all to see/hear it. Imagine that, one community that has not essentially gotten emotionally involved that much with BTS is the rock & metal world. There are a few, not a lot. If BTS does get more into rock/metal, they could potentially garner even more fans from that community, which is still relatively big today globally. It has been said that rock music, in the States, is nearly dead these days, although a lot of rock/metal music from Japan recently is getting attention. Anyway, one notable track that you may want to react to is the song "Classroom Idea", which is a song by Seo Taiji. BTS was a featured artist in one of Taiji's concerts a few years ago & they rapped together on this song in a live performance. I would love to see you react to that one & I can give you a link if you want. 2. SEO TAIJI - Continuing about Taiji, you should try reacting to some of his stuff. If you did not know or have forgotten, he is considered the "Father" of KPop. All of KPop started with him 3 decades ago, which means that if he never came on to the scene, then BTS, Blackpink & all the hundreds of KPop artists in the last 30 years, would not have existed. His main genre is rock & metal, but also includes hiphop, numetal, rap-rock, alternative rock, piano ballads, pop, EDM, symphonic arrangements, etc. There's even one that sounds reggaeton iirc. Out of all the KPop groups, it has been said that Taiji has passed the virtual torch to BTS, approving BTS as his protégé. If you want Taiji song suggestions, please let me know & I will recommend you some. 3. MILITARY SERVICE - You touched on one scenario where BTS could all go to service at the same time. This is possible & it has been talked about. I would think that that would be the best situation for them. Let them do their service together. They don't have to do field work, they could all just work at a military office & then they might also perform for the troops a little, kinda like USO tours in past decades from the States. I believe past KPop boy groups have sort of done that too, i.e. entertaining troops for a bit while in service. They can also VLog during that time, as long as they have permission, so they can keep in contact with ARMY, while in the army, heh. But one serious potential issue that can happen is if war breaks out while the boys are in service & SK could get involved. That means BTS could be in the field, unless the SK government deems them special enough that they stay behind & just be working at HQ. One other thing that is not clear is if the length of the military service (18 month) is included in the boys' new 7-year Hybe contract, but I doubt it, the 18 months service is most likely separate. I haven't looked at how other groups arranged this. Since BTS re-signed for another 7 years with Hybe in 2020, that means they won't really be done by 2027, but rather closer to 2029, only if they have their military service butting in somewhere in that timeframe.
@fy38452 жыл бұрын
I think they resigned in 2018 and you are correct that the 18 months would not be considered part of their contract period. I also agree with you that ideally 18 months service together would be best. They never asked for exemption and said when the time comes they would serve and Jin’s time is at the end of this year in December when he turns 30! I loved the Seo Taiji 25th anniversary concert which he featured BTS! It’s was an AMAZING concert. Worth watching and the is also a behind the scenes Bangtan with English sub of their practice!
@lightefilit2 жыл бұрын
They re-signed in 2018, so their new contract expires in about May 2025. When a man enters military service in SK, any employment contract of theirs "freezes". If they do end up going together (but I still think they have a high chance of exemption), then their contract will be prolonged until about 2027 or different years altogether if they go separately.

Yoooooo... you guys mentioned Wisin Y Yandel! Funny enough, that's how I got into K-Pop. I love reggaeton and was in a Wisin Y Yandel rabbit hole on youtube in 2011. One of the thumbnails that popped up was the MV Trouble Maker by Trouble Maker. I was instantly hooked. 2NE1, Super Junior, 4 Minute, etc. I took a break because well, Justin Timberlake, but came back around 2016.

did you guys know that about two weeks ago Jungkook of BTS travel to the United States to Las Vegas by himself for a little vacation alone. the rest of the members will be there for their concert this month the tickets for the concert actually sold out in February. going to be at a football stadium in Vegas or some similar large venue. since there over here they're probably going to make the circuit of morning news shows nighttime talk shows daytime talk shows and of course doing the tourist routine. and of course, last December they had four sold out nights of concerts in Las Angeles with people actually buying tickets and traveling to the United States from 60 countries. because they couldn't have concert in their country. Jimin was in the United States in January or February on vacation and caught COVID-19. since then, several members have also had COVID-19 I believe about two weeks ago that J hope has it. he may not be and Las Vegas for the concert. but then again depends on how long their quarantine period is in Korea.

Think of it this way: bang pd got crazy rich and started buying other companies, then in 2021 they decided to organise the chaos and to have HYBE as the joint collective company name, and all the other companies fall underneath that name, and bighit entertainment became bighit music. The companies under HYBE are still separate companies in their own sense, but are run and managed by HYBE. All the companies under HYBE have their own groups assigned to that label, so the groups aren’t family In terms of HYBE bc they still are signed under different companies. Then bang pd also bought Ithaca holdings which is home to artists like Justin bieber, Ariana grande, Demi lovato etc! BTS also became shareholders of the company aswell!! Bang pd sadly stepped down as CEO of HYBE in 2021 because he wants to focus more on his passion which is producing music, but he still remains a chairman at HYBE. Basically HYBE is only HYBE today bc of BTS and bang pd😌

Law makers in the Korean parliament (all sides of the political spectrum) have suggested for a new law specifically designed to get BTS exemption from service or having a short service period of basic training or something to be passed, the bill is going to be discussed and voted on soon, so the service topic is on hold/to be looked out for, we don't know how the outcome will be, but it seems like law makers, politicians and authorities in general in Korea are looking to find a way to reward them for elevating the country's reputation as well as a way to preserve the positive economic impact they bring to the country every year, which reached an average of 4.6 billion dollars during each of these past two years.... (Yeah🥴, if my country was lucky enough to have a single art act who caused THAT much revenue for the country every year we'd be constructing freaking monuments for them all over the country ngl 😂)

While listening to your discussion on the matter of BTS (documentary) songs, I also love the 'Most Beautiful Life Goes On BTS' - a real story. And I watch BTS 'American Hustle life' I think our BTS learn a lesson from them, especially when they brought BTS gives food to the street/homeless people and these people give advice to BTS. RM/Yoongi?Jhope is smart & full of knowledge in writing songs/lyrics according to the situation, while they are growing up with a lot of criticism & or see/look at the young generation struggle life that clicks to the listeners/fans/Army's. That's why we love BTS!

please react to bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by xceleste and bbygangmags videos on bts and kpop theyre much better than the asian theory's videos he gets many things wrong and his description of american hustle life is annoying its really not bad of a show and bts learned a lot from it. also the way he makes it seem like pre i need you were fake is also annoying cause bts has been writing their own music since predebut all of their music is their real selves its just the visual aspect of the music videos that were a little much but the albums, lyrics and songs themselves were always them they didnt just start being themselves with i need you. idk i dont like the way he speaks on certain things even though many of his stats are correct ill give him that but like when it comes to describing their history id go with xceleste and bbygangmag more. also bbygangmag goes deeper into kpop as a whole as well similar to the dkdktv kpop explained but better tbh. more in depth on topics and how media in english portrays kpop. please react to them :)

Theory question: In South Korea, if a male athlete wins an international metal (olympics, world cup) or male classical musician wins an international competition they get a military exemption. My thought is, if BTS wins a Grammy I wonder if they will get a military exemption. I know this year they all filed for, and were granted, a deferment but I think Jin would have to go next year unless they get an exemption
@forg_tful.2 жыл бұрын
i have less faith in them getting exempted even if they won the grammy now because the new president of sk is a hardcore conservative who is doing a lot of controversial moves in other fields, i would not bet on him giving them the time of day quite frankly.
