I met Liv Ullmann back in the 1970s. She was in Baltimore for a book signing. I worked a few blocks away, so I went to the event. Not a lot of people knew who she was, so I had the opportunity to talk with her for a few minutes. She was very nice, humble, and soft spoken. One would never guess her international notoriety. Over the years and moving many times, I lost the book she signed. Too bad.

Incredible. Thoughts, consciousness on film. The present moments! I’ll never forget the chess game, the face on the right, the back of the head on the left, the triangle of light in between from Persona. He does the medium two shot shot and the closer in profile better than anyone. And even a minimalist screen with one moving object!

For me his greatest film, and I've not seen them all - he was so prolific is Fanny and Alexander, which is sort of an autobiography. The scene when the father dies and the widow, screaming, walks in and out of shot seen through partially open doors is spine chilling. Again, great choices.

As somebody pointed out, I miss Hour of the Wolf. Happy to see the very much maligned Serpent’s Egg, I love the twist at the end and the atmosphere of the Weimar Republic falling to pieces is very good. I have seen you doing Fellini also. What about Buñuel, Greenaway, Fassbinder, Pasolini, Haneke, Von Trier, Alexei German, Sam Peckinpah, Svankmajer, Kurosawa, Bella Tarr, Herzog, Kusturica, Zhang Yimou, Fritz Lang...? The list could go on and on. I like your taste. I am jumping now to see your rendition to Tarkovsky.

I wish this video could go on for hours. But we have his films for that. I have yet so many Bergman films to watch. Someone mentioned cinematographer Nykvist and of course that's half the equation right there! Bergman and Fellini: give me that and I won't bother you again.

To me the greatest of them all is Bresson. Followed by Bergman, and then Tarkovski. And then there are, Fellini, Wenders, Kurosawa, Antonioni, and Parajanov. And then there are, Jean-Pierre Melville, and Mike van Diem. And then there is the King of the B-movie: Roger Corman!

Recently I got this complete Bergman box into my video library (Cost an arm and a leg) And I like his movies from the 40´s a lot, when he was heavily into neo-realism Italian style influenced. Charming and relatable with social commentary in the dark parts. Of course they cant hold up a candle against unique movies like Wild Strawberrys , Persona or Hour of the Wolf but that was 20 years before. An eternity in film making

Can you recommend a best source or stream for Ingmar Bergman's films?.. and the other great filmmakers? I'm curious to know your opinion of DeSica in total, but especially 'The Bicycle Thieves'?.. at least on 'story' or interpretation? Bergman gave the world rare insights, clues via the surreal, truthful dimensions of feeling, so in touch w/all of us & so much more. Thanks for the cool video Ady !!!👦

Thanks!🙏 You can download/watch these films at YTS/MUBI/Criterion. Some of these films are available on KZbin as well. 'The Bicycle Thieves' was one of first Italian/European films I ever saw. I was absolutely stunned by it, especially by the ending of the film. The father getting beaten by the crowd and then father and son walking together without saying anything could be easily termed as one of the best cinematic moments in the history of cinema. I will also try to work on the video of Vittorio De Sica, as soon as I will find more films of him in HD. Also, regarding Ingmar Bergman - though these films are more than 50 years old, the shots and style still look much more modern considering most of the recent films produced.👍

I have seen long time back in Munich that time I was a kid, sensibilities mature, but would love to watch all of these, the best cinema times, when movies had real intellect, thoughtfulness something which remained with you long after film was over , to chew upon and request to the crazy insane psychosis of uploads now need to back off, of course I love my own heritage culture I am done with them in personal life, I am strictly international person with different sensibility that marginal group which can be polite pleasant helpful to everybody and can work with them also, but thrives only with same wavelength in views in personal space intimate life, and if disconnect happens its just over for me, am not the regular everyday groups of world, and love to help all who are not abusive groups which has been unleashed on so many communities by black white insanity club of USA and others they shall never have acceptance from me and that finality remains.
