One day I was just like really angry, I was sick of being controlled and I was sick of giving my money to shitty people instead of buying cool stuff like anime body pillows and so I made it my new years resolution to quit and it worked. I remember when WW2 games were cool. Now it's a tired and weird thing that won't die or go away, and keeps trying to "hello fellow kids" at people... You're nearly 100 years old WW2! Act your damn age!

It’s also the most overused setting in war games anymore, like it’s “safe” to just do the same shit over and over because we all know Nazis/Hitler bad, right? Because that’s all they boil it down to, forgetting all the other stories and battles that happened during WW2. Hell, you’d think that’s the only war that was ever fought with these games anymore considering how many games focused on WW2 actually saturate the market. That’s no disrespect to anyone who actually served in real life and went through the horrors of what WW2 actually entailed, but we have a world rich with history with just wars alone…. and AAA companies skip over so many and telling their stories to instead go with the safe bet of WW2 because it sells. It’s marketable (which is what’s really sad). We never see devs at these massive gaming companies step out and do something new anymore with the war genre that tells the story of a new setting and new era. Instead, it’s the same thing over and over, with each game dumbing WW2 down to the same old shit. We have the American Revolutionary War, Mexican-American War, American Indian Wars, Opium Wars, the story of John Brown’s Raid leading up to the Civil War, Russian Civil War, Korean War, Vietnam … that’s just US-based history, some where the US doesn’t always win. Many filled with stories with enormous battles where both sides were severe in casualties, stories that are often skipped over and just never told through media anymore because of how bloody the history is as it shows the real evils of war. It’s obvious why they go with WW2 every single time - it’s the safe bet where the enemy is bad/evil. It allows them to make up fake stories with a war setting involving that period to where no sympathy can be shown to the other side. They are afraid of doing a game based on another war for fear of backlash that would claim they’re glorifying war/death and making certain people out to be enemies, forgetting war is like that, and if they’re going to do games based on such … sometimes the ugly truth has to come through for both sides.

What if we get a WWII game that let's us play as the Wehrmacht for once? I doubt we could do this today, but it could be cool. At least a different take. Like I wouldn't mind having a game where you start kicking ass and then eventually get pushed back to Berlin. Maybe you play as part of Army Group Centre's 2nd Army or something.

I have to say that the most offensive part of this game was the depiction of Lucas Riggs who was based on Charles Upham, a New Zealand soldier who was the only soldier in history to receive two victoria crosses during WWII. He hated owning the crosses until his death because he believed his fellow soldiers deserved them more than him, he denied gaining knighthood as he didn't believe he deserved it, and he denied the $1,000,000 [accounting for inflation] fund his community raised for him after the war. He was incredibly humble and performed frankly amazing feats of heroism during WWII that it's a shame SledgeHammer, Treyarch, and all the other developers chose to represent this New Zealand hero as a bloody Australian. And the game was pretty shit too.
