The problem I have with Mob Vote mobs (and frankly every mob that has been released after 1.16) is that they don’t provide a significant enough change in the early game. They are just either a small niche, or a branched optional “post-game” that are very hard to achieve for the casual player. I love the designs and concepts, they just haven’t been executed super well. And yes, there are mobs that are older that don’t do anything, but they make their respective biomes feel more alive.

That mindset was kind of wrong too if you think about it, just being able to tame a mob doesn't make it useful, look at dogs or the axolotls. Their only purpose is combat oriented, yet they are very suboptimal for that purpose. They can easily die and only do acceptable damage when in large numbers, in a game where combat is already very, very easy. Using either of them to fight something just doesn't make a lot of sense, and if they are pets then you endanger them too :/

Honestly most of the "useless" features in Minecraft are just overshadowed by all the endgame stuff like shulker boxes and elytra. If you leave the ender dragon fight for much much later, you'd find that a lot of the early game features are quite fun. In my server, we agreed to not do the dragon fight until months later so we could all schedule to do it together and I found that mules and llamas are pretty fun to use for transporting items long distance. Unfortunately, with the big projects I was planning, these weren't enough and I quickly yearned for the ease and convience of shulker boxes and the elytra.

I think it stem from the fact that rather adding a unique mob with a unique design that has multiple abilities and uses, they add one real life mob that has a single use and nothing else it interacts with the game if anything at all. Edit: I had to Shane out the Wandering Trader with the Sniffer by someone’s request. The four horsemen of useless mobs when you hardly need them: Sniffer - It only sniffs out for useless decorative plant seeds. Turtle/Baby Turtle - If you need to go for at least a longer dive even with Aqua Affinity and Respiration 3 with 10 seconds of water breathing, then you have to hatch and grow 5 baby turtles to adults, which means you need lots of sea grass. Phantoms - They only provide membrane to repair Elytra’s. *Pre-End.* And they are hard to hit in the air way up high. Armadillo - I’m calling it now, they will only provide means of “extending” the life of a dog you may not want to endanger in combat of Minecraft because I know pretty much everyone has sentimental value on an NPC. Anyone that disagrees with me can go kiss the Wither.

Then when you do, it does absolutely nothing, and only drops bamboo, which is already readily available in the biome where it spawns, and is super easy to farm. May as well drop nothing. Squids and glow squids are pretty useful because of black dye and glowing signs and item frames. They surely are, though, the most terrible mobs in the game. Squids keep suffocating in walls, and glow squids spawn almost 100% of the times in minuscule waterfalls, so they get pulled away from them and die in 1-2 minutes because of dehydration.

Glowsquid is cool, nice glowing signs and item frames. Now, wolves we keep as pets in our houses, because they're cute. That's it, we don't take them out on adventures because they could die. Why would a set of armor for the wolf change that? It could still die. I will still not be taking my wolf out. Thus, Armadillos were in fact, a wasted and useless mob in my opinion. Now, while the crab wasn't added, therefore we don't get to have extra reach, I dare say it wouldn't have been much of an extra reach, and it would've been another item to keep in our ever-growing-smaller inventory. While the crab is cool, I acknowledge that. But as someone who likes to make plugins and servers, I think the ability they added to change the player's reach via command will go a long way, especially when making plugins.

I’ve thought of a mob I call the vampillager. It’s an illager like mobs that are as rare as witches. They’re undead mobs. They can turn into bats and have a lower squeak than normal bats. They are very fast and can can give poison damage. But they have low health. They drop items that can be found in villages because they stole them. They also drop gunpowder because they turn to dust when they die. And they drop fangs which I don’t know what to do with. What do you think of it?

In survival, outside of fancy displays it's useless, but as for command stuff and redstone I think, they could be useful for doing cool stuff, especially since they lack self preservation and are inanimate.

I wouldn't mind if they were creative mobs like the mooshroom. However I hate the amount of real life mobs we have. I liked the fish and dolphin, but almost everything after that was like "Why" Polar bears - Just to add one more problem to living in icy biomes? Pandas - aesthetics? Axolotls - water wolves? Parrots - I don't like them but they get a pass. I feel far to bias due to the amount of times they scared me with zombie and spider noises while I was crafting They did bees right - they may be real life mobs but they add a lot in terms of mechanics and gameplay The only reason I see to add useless mobs is to fill dead space in biomes; but you can do that and make them useful or make them something creative, or best of all: both

I would accept It If they added more fantasy mobs. But these real life mobs are getting annoying, since almost none of them has more than 1 or 2 uses. Only the Fishes, the Dolphin, the Turtle, the Bees, the Axolotls and the Camel are close to cool or useful.

Bats are pretty neat though because they attract mobs to your position when they squeak. Would be cool if it was expanded on though, and made more clear that they do that. You could even give them fruit to shut them up or something as a non lethal option (which would be a lot easier than trying to hit their tiny hitbox). Maybe if you give one enough fruit it gives you a short night vision buff or something as a reward.

My wishlist for bats: 1. Breedable using spider eyes 2. Aggro spiders and silverfish (and serve as infested stone detectors) 3. Drop guano which can be shoveled and then used as bonemeal I'd also love a flying fox variant that eats fruit, spreads unique seeds (Mango? Agave? Banana?) in addition to acting as nighttime bees (pollinating any crops they fly over).

I don’t think this is true, you may have just been close enough to mobs for them to see you. Or they happened to turn a corner while a bat is squeaking. Bats are entirely just ambient mobs, other mobs aren’t attracted to them nor do they alert others of the player.

If I had to put the 4 most useless mobs in a post, I would put: 1. The bat (u know why) 2. The squid (cuz u can get books from breaking bookshelves anyway) 3. The zombie horse (just a copy of the horse) 4. Silverfish (gives people with entomophobia [fear of bugs] fear of playing the game)

Thought bats were useless, then it happened. I was tunnel mining in a mushroom biome looking for any caves and heard a bat. Since no other mobs can spawn down there that bat alerted me to the existence of a cave. Also the Nitwit is useful for an iron farm and for creating villager children to enslave. So are there any truly useless mobs in Minecraft?

Camel: Only use is not being able to be hit by melee hostile mobs but Phantoms and Skeletons can still hit you. Sniffer: Finds and gives you two flowers and that's it. Both squids: Enough Said. Polar bears: Why? Bats: Just a sign of a bigger cave but that's about it, you still got to find the cave still. Ocelots: Use to be good until they were retired. Bees: They don't speed up your crops nor provide much hunger points. Ally: By the time you find one you'd already have defeated the dragon and got yourself a few shulker boxes.... no use for a mob that can pick up 1 type of block at a time. Axolotl: Cute but that's about it. Donkey: Sure they can carry stuff but nothing ground breaking, better off getting shulker boxes for storage while on the move. Mule: No real uses besides a source of leather. Frog: Frog lamps? The effect to get this are not worth the trouble. Parrots: They sit on your shoulder but fly off when you jump up a block.... real useful... not. Rabbit: Almost impossible to hit and only use is their foot that is used to brew a potion of jump boost but not worth catching for a pot that lasts a short amount of time. Snow glom: Just for show, they don't do any damage. Tadpole: Pointless addition. Wandering Trader: Like who will buy a birch sapling for 3 emeralds... no one. Nitwits: Filler mob for villagers. Fox: Cute but useless. Goat: Waiting around in hopes they'll charge at you and be lucky enough to get a horn that places a bunch of weird and lame tunes for a short period of time. Llama: first version of the camel. Panda: Nothing of value. Trader Llama: Why? Endermite: Why? Husk: Drop flesh and gives you hunger when hit... oh and they don't burn in day light.. Zombie: Just pray you've been in your chunks long enough for them to start spawning with armor on let alone chances for them to drop it.. Phantom: Punish the player when they don't sleep... but to nullify this all you need to do is be under a block and no phantoms will spawn... a very flawed mob. Silverfish: Just a annoying mob. Vex: phase through blocks and are hard to hit, don't drop anything and they sound creepy. Witch: Did you need some sugar? redstone? or an empty bottle? Zoglin: Rotten meat. Armadillo: Let's get endless scout for dog armor that has no durability meaning once you have armor for all your dogs the mob now is useless. Maybe Breeze idk yet. Mojang talks a big game about never adding mobs in for the sake of it and it has to have a purpose.... then they add these to the game. I am in no way hating any of these mobs, I just find it hypocritical when Mojang says no to a ton of mob suggestions and say mobs/items/blocks have to have a purpose/use in the game and then turn around and remove uses for the ocelots or add frogs or never make the 'glow' squid actually.... idk... glow. IMO this is a fantasy game so stop adding real life mobs like the camel or the bat or the bee and start making more fantasy mobs like the strider or the phantom or the breeze or the ender dragon... just because a real life animal is almost wiped from the earth doesn't mean you need to or should add it to the game because there is no indication in game the reason behind adding bees or pandas or even axolotls.. so please for the love of god stop making minecraft like you are walking on eggshells and actually make the game fun again and let loose and go ham.

if we're genuinely trying to figure out the most useless mobs in the game, i kinda wanna try my hand silverfish have a unique gimmick of being able to hide in blocks and have been in the game for ages, so while they're annoying i dont think they're typically considered useless illusioners and zombie horses are of course top picks, being mobs not actually implemented into gameplay, but they feel like cheap picks if you've ever needed black dye for something squids are a Holy object, not using them either bats, as much as i like them (they're my favorite animal) their entire time implemented people have wondered why they existed. so thats in the running glow squids are also up there- they do a niche use, with the glow frames and glowing signs. but you can achieve a very similar effect by having a light source block behind the item frame, or hell someone else suggested moving the glow ink sac function to glowstone dust. when it comes to armadillos, the bottom line is hardly anyone takes their dogs out with them, and those that do already know the risks. their implementation also has direct conflict with mojangs philosophy about animals, where it should not encourage kids to go up to a real one and perform in game actions. armadillos do not shed their scutes. you cannot get them without harming the armadillo. im suprised this hasnt been brought up hardly anywhere ocellots *used* to have a use, being tameable into cats once upon a time, but no longer. high contender. rabbits, again despite being in the game for *ages*, still dont have much use. their feet can be used for high jump potions, and give you access to rabbit stew which is, admittedly, significantly less practical than mushroom stew. we dont talk about bundles. allays have been complained about since they were voted on, and tbh i kind of agree. they're neat looking, and are another mc original thing which is always nice, but they're kind of like bundles without actually having bundles. a few others i thought about were foxes (they're cute, and their berry farm mechanic and sword holding i think is enough to save them), polar bears (they're like the only unique mob to cold biomes man cmon, plus the saving chicken thing), phantoms (they suck, but no mending elytra repair and slow falling potions are nice!!), pandas (by god why are their internals so complicated for such a rare mob), axolotls (they really dont have much use, but seem to be beloved regardless) so, in short, i believe the most useless mobs in the game to be... . . . . your mom amongus loss skibidi toilet

Like, yeah, if you're a speedrunner or only play to "beat" the game, then something like concrete isn't really useful to you, but if your a builder, or you use redstone then it is quite useful. It all depends on the way someone plays, and that's a good thing. You shouldn't be forced to do things you don't want to do in a game where the literal point of it is the ability to do whatever you want.

@@AltPlus30 I do have issues with the mob vote, mostly the fact that the losing mobs never get added despite saying they will be, granted they are adding features (not the mobs themselves) from this years mob vote to the game so we'll just have to see where it goes from here, but I do find it hilariously ironic how the community complains about Mojang ignoring feedback (probably due to Microsoft) whilst also complaining about a way that the community directly influences the game.
