The warning just indicates shame over nothing which is the annoying part. There's nothing in this game that puts it in the same ballpark as a 1940's Warner Bros cartoon. I also don't like how everything is a company these days. "Companies" don't have thoughts or feelings or morals. It was always a business so I get there was a want to make money, but back in the days Capcom AND SNK were full of passionate and inspired people. This warning is just board room filth injected on to someone else's work.

The US Neo Geo releases tend to have censorship applied. Code Mystics just simply took the US Rom with the Debug DIP switches set to On for the hidden characters. It's no different from how it is in Arcades, but if memory serves me right, you can uncensor the game by setting the game language to Japanese and turning blood on.

The 3 differences are the Rating of the game (Z for Japan and Mature for US), The LRG cover is a little zoomed out so you can see Juliet holding her chainsaw plus more of Nick's head and PlayAsia is selling it for $12 cheaper before taxes.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here and I'm not excusing the warning in the game but; The game's story does revolve around the cast all being dead and fighting in purgatory for a chance to be revived. They end up fighting in heaven or hell. That's alot of religion in an otherwise simple fighting game. The warning could be about that. Still weird to add it tho.

Apparently, Mai's chest was covered up as well as there were alterations to Athena's outfit and this isn't the case in the Japanese version at all. This is also leading to speculation that she may be censored once she arrives in Street Fighter VI later this year as well. Capcom drank the DEI kool-aid a while ago and that's why the censorship has ramped up a bit.

For some reason, I thought the disclaimer was there because of the game's protrayal of heaven, God, and Athena. Edit: Code Mystics were finally given a response. Their answer: "some dialogue was thought problematic but as a retro title they wanted "historically accuracy", so acknowledged the issue instead (36v36 x3 langs is a lot of text to review!)"

No ps2 port, it's directly the Rom emulated with some changes for the rollback and other options. The neogeo game when console mode used to give you those 4 credits by player.

@@osmosispit’s ridiculous. They should’ve done what snk did with the neogeo mini. All the games have 4 credits. But the software allows you to “save data” on the last spot you lost. So when you boot up the game a second time, it lets you load the last spot, and it gives you another 4 credits. So it’s infinite credits, as long as you load the last spot where you lost until you beat the game. Rn I tried beating SVC on 4 credits and couldn’t continue after the sub boss. It’s sad. I guess I’m going back to my Japanese ps2 copy if I wanna play single player. And keep this one for online only. Unless codemystics changes it to unlimited credits.

Did you know that there is ghosting/after image on the handheld mode? Its very noticeable From the Code Mystics forum : "The Flicker Filter is forced on in handheld mode regardless of its setting on the Switch, as the alternating frames used to simulate semi-transparency can damage the LCD" So you can't turn it off but other companies dont seem to have the same issue with the flicker filter (see hamster & digital eclipse releases) & the games look fine, even great in handheld...is it just that this game specifically has an issue or the emulator that has the problem?

After dealing with this crap for years I can tell you that the censorship of the cover and the trigger warning is for the ESG. And if not for the ESG, then it's a red flag to signal to companies and activists that they're on their side and willing to be open to changes in the future. And because I've seen this time and again I'm far too skeptical to even trust any developer that does this. If the porters aren't responsible, then the only option that leaves is SNK requested them to put that trigger warning and also change the cover art.

@@Madlittlepixel to give you the short version, ESG is kind of a social credit score that gives companies more money depending on how politically correct they are. That's why there's been plenty of lgbt, strong independent (and most of the time ugly) females, more focus on racial minorities, political messaging and censorship in modern games as of late. It's all for the ESG score. The lower the risk score, the more money companies receive. It is also the reason for the DEI departments and consulting firms like Sweet Baby Inc (SBI). They help lower the risk score at the expense of creative freedom as they almost completely take over the creative process so companies would be less offensive. It cuts creative freedom which is part of the reason they call gamers every ist and phobe under the sun so they can protect their funding as well as hiding whatever problems they have with the game. It's also to get people riled up so they can talk about the game more, and get people to overlook whatever problems there are make sure and defend the company tooth and nail out of the need to protect the brand. Even going as far as to call everyone opposing the change corn addicts for calling out any changes. Funny that they say that since there're games like The last of Us part 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 that are allowed to have nudity and seggs scenes. Because they're DEI approved they could getaway with those type of scenes in the games, but anime style games get censored because they're not approved. And all of this is funded by companies like Black Rock and Vanguard who have an ungodly amount of money courtesy of each individual's retirement funds. Not to mention they have huge investor votes in some of these companies. Sony is one of them. There's a Vtuber by the name of Kirsche that goes more in-depth into it as she has been following this whole thing for months. Look her up if you can. I would give a link to one of her recent videos but KZbin is a bit fickle when it comes to Links sometimes. The disclaimer is for those who can't tell the difference between the early years of videogaming imdustry and the current state as it exists today, due to the climate of hostility, many publishers in videogaming (and even movies) that ports over older games (and older movies) has to figure out a way to keep everyone off their backs. It's more to do with how society looks at everything now with a fine toothed comb and nitpicks anything that could be deemed "offensive". In the end, these are large corporations that have to look out for their own public image. Alright, Code Mystics basically gave the most likely reasons each complained about thing “exists”, the disclaimer exists because “some dialogue was thought problematic but as a retro title they wanted "historically accuracy"” now as for the censored poster, this one is much easier to answer, ratings boards, simple as that, as the game is rated T for Teen & ratings boards, being as quirky as they are, could’ve interpreted the cover art and rated it M on that merit alone (ratings boards are weird).

Playing the game and I can say it's un-altered, the promo art is not in the game. Code Mystic addressed the situation, the disclaimer is due to dialogues and having "religious" design, also the lore of the game is about fighters fighting in a post-apocalyptic where 2 deities (Athena and Fire Brand) overseer for Order vs. Chaos. Code Mystic were told to put in the disclaimer. As for why the Western trailer is censored, Code Mystic believe it's regulation, since 2019, trailers are now required to be rated in the West and they believe whoever made that decision may have some concern that "kids" could see the trailer. Box arts in the West sadly have to be modified in order to be displayed at stores, same goes with digital storefront. I don't agree of the situation, but can't do anything when regulations are involved. As for it may be a Capcom issue is that SNK is using their IPs and Capcom possibly may have some concern, that's my guess. Just because it was developed from a different company, they still need to be concern when using other IPs.

If censorship has no effect on the gameplay, there should not be any censorship at all. Trigger warnings waste memory space as video game players would rather quickly get into the game while still having nice logo intros.

i'm pretty sure the reason they put that warning in was because some of the win quotes. I mean Ryu uses the word "s*mp" in one of his. (I don't know KZbins position on that word in the comments section)

I would say that the warning and any censorship would have to do with Mohammad bin Salman the crown prince of Saudi Arabia being the owner of SNK through his company the (EGDC). We probably will see more of these warnings or censorships in SNK games in the future due to the differences in cultures and beliefs.

I really don't know though, I mean that could be possible.... but though the Saudi Arabian Public fund was used to buy I believe it was around 96% of SNK they were said to remain hands off, let SNK do there own thing and not influence the development of things at all. But who knows for sure..

The follow up question should be after being told to put in... "Who told you to put it in? SNK?" that way we know where it comes from and where to expect more from future releases. Always remain vigilant... because this may be a sign when they DO start changing stuff due to arbitrary "morality"/"optics" and wanting to reach a wider audience because the fans will probably buy anyway because they want their series to live on (hold hostage their nostalgia) or don't know then come to find out later. Capcom Fighting Collection is already censored... they took away one of the ending cards with Naked Morrigan and Lilith embracing each other in the ending credits as one of the variation results for ending credits, and for Hyper Street Fighter 2 stage... I believe they took out the rising sun flashing in E.Honda's stage when it was there in the original release probably to appease Korea/China. This is an ongoing problem we need to stay vigilant for. Crystal Dynamics had this type of disclaimer denouncing old Tomb Raider games portrayal put into the Tomb Raider collection despite not being done by them... they edited one of the character's jackets and in one update they took out pin-up spicy posters, then just to bring the back in a later update... who knows if those would have been brought back if people didn't chime in... because it might have been a pretend "oopsie", but because they're always seem to be treading in destroying legacy media and always try to turn our games into propaganda self-pats on the back for morality points slop and to always get a wider audience. Always stay vigilant and suspicious. This might be a nothing burger and a just display message every boot up and the artwork of the cover changing for the Physical NA release (not a nothing burger to me, but not world ending) but it can ALWAYS evolve to damaging future products if it is allowed to take the full mile unopposed.

It never crossed my mind that the warning was directed toward anyone who might take offense until watching this because that seems so odd, but I guess it does kinda read that way. Which is still weird. When I booted it up I read it pretty quick and it had just come across as "yeah this game doesn't represent our modern design philosophy or standards but hey enjoy the jank!" But I guess I skimmed over the part about attacking ideologies or groups. I guess it's about people perceiving certain characters as stereotypes? But I mean someone like Dhalsim is still around today and I've never heard any uproar so it's kinda weird to include.

It's not hard to understand. Yes, SNK published the game, but chances are they didn't have the license to re-release the game at later dates (same as capcom with there crossovers). They would have to come to a deal with ---> CAPCOM

I think these kinds of messages are harmless. To me they can be annoying but don't really bother me. On the other day I watched Aladdin on Disney plus and they have the same message. i think it's because it's an older movie/game, and times have changed, people are more careful towards language and violence, and i don't think it's a bad thing necessarily. If they put these messages and that's what makes them not sensor anything from the original content, im super ok with it.

Maybe through LRG as they have handled SNK FGs in the past. However the pricing on eshop indicates they might ignore physical for this one for future compilation they might do. Edit: Seems I called it correctly, LRG just confirmed there will indeed be a physical version for the US as well as Pix 'N Love for EU.

Same on Steam, basically the disclaimer (much like the ones for Tomb Raider and Battle Network) forewarn this was a product of its time and its basically being presented uncut. There are some lines, as well as certain concepts, that would basically not fly by today’s standards.

Reminds me of the new Pocky and Rocky game. This one ist actually censored in the west. One of the playable characters (Ame-no-Uzume) show less boobs/they are covered up in the Cutscenes. Completely stupid, becauce the uncensored version is really not offensive to begin with. Luckily the japanese version is multi-region and has different language on it. So for everyone who wants the uncensored game can buy the japanese version.

I was like 13 the first time I played this in the arcade I thought this game was different I loved that the characters had conversations pre fight as a kid I played this game for the first time in a movie theatre arcade in 2004 a lot of ppl crap on this game now but back in the day I looked forward to playing this in the arcade as a kid I was intrigued by this game.
