Eating raw chicken doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get sick. You just have a chance. The reason the warning is there is because you could eat raw chicken 100 days in a row, but the 101st time you eat it, you could get salmonella and be hospitalized for it

After speeding through about 3 papers on salmonella prevalence ... I can tell you that 100 times consuming salmonella ridden chicken isn't going to end well for you. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that Salmonella is responsible for 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States every year." "48% of chicken livers in delaware tested positive for Salmonella. 72% in New Jersey." (search term, cuz links are blocked: "prevalence of salmonella in raw chicken liver"). Granted, the infection rate is much lower and the average nation wide salmonella positive chicken is around 4-5%. You still don't want to play Russian Roulette in your frying pan.

I have HAD salmonella. And it is NOT a tummyache. I was in and out of a hellish half-consciousness, barely able to move or speak for a WEEK STRAIGHT. I couldn't even move 10 feet to get to the bathroom very easily. Ran an extremely high fever for the whole time. It was NOT fun. I did NOT take meds for it(We were poor college kids at the time). I would NEVER want to repeat it. I would never wish it on anyone. I have been shot in the thigh, and I have had a knee crushed in an accident. When I think "Which of these 3 was the worst to go through?", I have to THINK ABOUT IT. That is how terrible salmonella is. Please, do not eat raw chicken. Yes, washing it thoroughly can REDUCE your chances of getting ill, but, please, please, please. I promise you from firsthand experience that it is not worth it, and had I been a little bit older I would be dead right now. Please, please, please, please, please, my fucking God. I used to eat a sliver of raw heart from any deer I killed, when I was a kid, as was tradition- but with the rise in prion disease, we no longer do that, and doing it was dumb, but tradition is tradition, what can you do. In today's world, you couldn't PAY ME to eat raw offal, ESPECIALLY brains.

As a young kid my dad and his best friend(Who was not a gun person at all), and his best friends daughter who was also my age took us out to the backwoods to teach us shooting. TLDR, we were too young(Well, SHE clearly was) and both dads got drunk. It was my turn to clear the range(aka go setup the tin cans again so we could shoot more) and her rifle discharged. Range accident, happens all the time. I still have a rather unsightly scar to this day(decades later), but I'm very lucky to be alive. Tell you what though, having a big chunk of meat cleaved off you is not a super great feeling. Do not recommend.

@@pidge3618 Huh, my reply didn't post. Weird. Nah, its not uncommon for people to take chicken out of its packaging and wash it under cold running water in the sink. Obviously if you cook chicken thoroughly enough it won't matter, but also, sometimes chicken comes with a bunch of "slime"(interstitial fluids) that's just packed with bacteria. Please don't wash it with soap, or bleach, or any cleaner. Just water.

The table I was sitting at looked fine until I took my camera out for a day of macro photography. The difference being they have very strict rules surrounding the farming of the chickens used in this style of dish as well very high standards for the chefs and kitchens preparing it. I wouldn’t trust American chickens as the food safety measures are too lax for raw dishes.

I have Tourette's too, and god if only it was that simple. Some people genuinely believe there's a simple answer to every single one of life's problems, and it's disturbing. Like, if it really was that simple, don't you think we would have done it by now? I genuinely had a doctor tell me "just stop ticcing and you'll get better" (I had a tic that destroyed my legs and couldn't put weight on either). And my first thought was "damn, if only I had thought of that sooner and I might not be in this wheelchair right now and in constant immense pain". I wish I was more confrontational sometimes, because I was desperate to crawl out that chair to rip that doctor a new one. I've had a people tell me "just take vitamins", "just change your diet", "just go out more", "just fight it harder", it never ends. @@enav.2678 I got some frozen chicken wings and failed to notice the fact that there were no microwave instructions which would usually tell someone that they were raw I then put them into the oven for I think 30 minutes and dug in the outside was fine but as I got to the inside I hit a tough bit thinking it was just how the chicken was I kept going until I bit it off and after chewing I realized it was rubbery then after finally looking down I saw that the part that I had bitten off from and swallowed was glossy and raw
