For a child who grew up in the 70s, knowing what we all know now, I feel cheated and lied to. These two were huge celebrity names yet they were two people, evil with a smoke screen of kindness. Even today, in an enlightened world, you can bet its still going on. Heaven only knows how their victims must feel.

I felt the same way. Never could understand how Savile was so popular. Always got massively bad vibes from a mile off. A genuinely repulsive character, in a way it was a relief to learn he wasn't the 'national treasure' we'd all been told he was. Instincts were right. Rolf on the other hand, I didn't find him particularly entertaining, but I wouldn't have suspected a thing. He seemed harmless. Somehow that's more disturbing.

Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter were totally different to Rolf Harris. For a start there was actual evidence against them. Rolf Harris (if you actually bother to look into the details of the trial and the unprofessional way the police "investigated" his case) was convicted mainly after trial by media before his case came to court and his whole trial was clouded by the first case dealt with by the court, that he was accused of having molested an 8 year old. The other charges against him at his first trial were tainted by the accusations made by the woman who claimed to be 8 years old at the time. However, when the details of her accusations were investigated thoroughly by investigators acting for Rolf Harris at his subsequent trials, it was shown that the whole thing had been made up and consequently he was found not guilty of that charge. However, as he had already been convicted, it was too late to prevent the jury from perceiving him as being a paedophile. The other accusations for which he was convicted were also provably false or at the very least based on accounts that when looked at or scrutinised, could not have happened the way it was claimed. He was found not guilty of all other charges brought at his second and third trial after "victims" had brought stories to operation yew tree after responding to requests for "victims" to come forward having been told "you will be believed" with newspapers of a certain type boasting of potential compensation for victims being in the tens of thousands if not more. None of the cases on their own would have been enough to convict anyone. However, the fact that Operation Yewtree presented their "evidence" as if there had been a pattern was enough for the jury to decide, against real evidence, that he was guilty. There is a book out now by this investigation team (Rolf Harris. The Defence Team's Special investigator Reveals The Truth Behind The Trials by William Merritt) which quite clearly illustrates the shocking stitch up Rolf Harris was subject to. Anyone who genuinely thinks Rolf Harris was treated fairly should read this account and it will shock you to the core that someone could be convicted on the flimsiest of evidence. I think there is a suggestion that Rolf Harris may have been a bit tactile at times with people (not those who made accusations as most of them provably did not come in to contact with him or others whose account would have been witnessed by people if they had been true) as was the behaviour of people in the 70s and 80s, which doesn't condone that sort of thing but it was almost certainly not as sexually aggressive as was portrayed in court and certainly not paedophilia. As the book points out, the Metropolitan Police investigating these crimes were, at the time, involved with their own questionable practice of stamping new female recruits as an initiation ceremony where young police woman had their bare bottoms stamped with the station stamp while everyone else looked on! I know there will be people who take issue with what I have said, but I suggest you do a bit of research first and not just rely on what you are told by the tabloid media. As I said, Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter were totally different cases, but unfortunately Rolf Harris was tarred with the same brush, as was nearly Cliff Richard, Paul Gambaccini, Jim Davidson, Freddie Starr etc. all of whose cases were dismissed or fund not guilty through a lack of evidence and believability of the complainants.

Came to the same conclusion some years ago when Harris was vilified for talking to a guy carving wood outside a school building, the guy just spoke to a craftsman at work, was the other side of a service road from the school fencing and went nowhere near to actually entering the school yet was portrayed as “being on the hunt” at a school, looked into what actually caused the problem, it seems he was accused of having an affair with a friend of his daughter who was above the age of consent when it happened but the implication was things had happened the year before too which may not have been the case

Feel free to vomit. As a youngster in those times I'm disgusted at myself, just for believing and somewhat trusting these people. I wanted to go on Jim'll Fix It - sitting up front with a tube driver. Just a wish. Never applied. Didn't believe the hype about Savile until his death. As I say, I trusted him and Rolf Harris (encouraging us kids to learn to swim). And all the people who knew what they were like. I can't to this day, understand the environment where their behaviour wasn't exposed. And to think I was being "entertained" whilst some around these people were being traumatised and many still suffering to this day, from the experience of meeting those 2 cuddly fellas.

I used to love Rolf Harris. He was such a talented and gifted man, his work entertained and inspired me enormously. I'll never forget the moment I realised that he was the person hinted at being implemented as under suspicion of offences. There were stories about an Australian TV host under the Yewtree investigation. I was watching Channel 5's Rolf's Animal Clinic on a TV in my work canteen, and the penny suddenly dropped. I looked at some stuff online, on my phone, and it became obvious that it was him. A few days later, he was formally named. I was gutted. The trial then took place, and one of the most bizarre things happened to me. I was doing shift work, and it was one of my days off. I was just chilling in my apartment, doing nothing but admiring the view from the window, and out of the blue I suddenly had an odd feeling. I said out loud, to myself, "Rolf Harris has just been convicted!". Turned on the TV, and he had. I don't know how to explain that, it was the weirdest thing.

Back then nonne cared about sex, it was expected from the working classes and celebrities. Look at Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith. Nobody cared and it was seen as a "love story" back then look at the interviews with them when she was 18 about to marry him when it was well known he had known her for quite some time and been dating him. Back then the values of society were 13+ was ok for sex (even if wasn't the law). There were a lot of groupies that tried to look older than what they really were and saw sex with celebs as a "trophy".
