I think I can explain "Myrtle"'s use of "Osiris" as a metaphor for what was done to her. In some versions of the Osiris myth, his evil brother Set chopped Osiris into pieces (including his penis) and scattered the pieces to the winds. Osiris' sister-wife Isis was able to gather all the pieces and ressurect Osiris - but she failed to recover his penis as a Fish had eaten it. So she fashioned him a prosthetic penis in its stead. Yeah.

@robinchesterfield42
@robinchesterfield42 Жыл бұрын
This whole story is just...wild. Even putting aside all the gruesomeness and spiciness, everybody's attitudes are just...BONKERS! "Oh, i want to have a baby so badly, even if it's just a myrtle branch." "Okay, here's your myrtle branch." Sane people's reactions: "WHAT???? Also ow. Pokey." This lady: "Oh, I guess this is my daughter now. Better water her!" XD I mean in a way it's kinda sweet, like she accepts her kid no matter what, but... And then the line "The Prince saw the myrtle tree in the window and was immediately MADLY in LOVE with it" Why is _everybody_ in this entire kingdom absolutely insane? It's like the whole story took drugs beforehand! And that's only the BEGINNING. XD I mean I currently have a big family in The Sims 4 (this is relevant, trust me) and they're all named after different "branches" of the "tree" of life. Taxonomic names. Every time the kid named "Plantae" (after the entire Plant Kingdom) gets off the schoolbus, he RUSHES over to the garden to start taking care of the plants. I'm not even kidding. First thing. Every time. It's like he somehow knows what I named him. So I started taking screenshots of him doing this and writing captions under them like: "MY PEOPLE NEED ME!" but...that was a JOKE! As far as I know, none of the plants are literally any of these character's children! Mermaids, yes. Aliens, yes. A werewolf cousin, sure. Trees, however, no. :P

To say the end of the 6 outta 7 side girls is brutal and awful, imagine if Myrtle were a mortal and the 7 side girls did the similar to her. I think the prince's actions weren't fully unjustified. Exaggerated, yes, but the fact these women were willing to shred the prince's true love out of jealousy regardless of her being immortal or not, I wouldn't want them around either.

I've come across a retelling (I'm not sure if it was a summary of Bastile's story or came from a common origin) that explained why the seventh woman didn't receive the punishment: because when the myrtle fairy appeared, she only took a lock of hair and held back from actually harming the fairy. Therefore, while not entirely guiltless, she was not part of the murder and thus was exempt from the punishment for the murder. It also stressed that she was the youngest, which could be interpreted as her actions being driven more out of peer pressure than murderous intent.

@@TheoRae8289 It's really not a romance, unless constant creepy vampire predation is a "romantic" language or whatever. At least for me it was somewhat scary, not romantic at all. There are scenes that feel very eerie, and Carmilla's treatment of Laura, although yes she expresses affection, feels more like manipulation or playing with food kind of behavior. Good story, but, at least for me, not exactly a romance. It's more like Laura's memoir of her experience with a vampire attack, one that left her traumatized. Scary, yes. Romantic? I can't say.

Male goats and sheep have long , thin peens that need a lite touch anyway. And while it was barely old enough to get horny , and had no back legs , it was the only male for miles around. To quote a parrot "Any port in a storm." My guess is that it happened like this. They backed up to his face for him to lick and get hard. Then laid down and let him climb on top. Animals can do it lots of ways. I once saw a male bird grinding between a female's wings outside a library. She just stood there and let him hump.

@@Cinnabun9 Well, just because someone might not be studying it right, doesn't mean they weren't DIRECTLY INSTRUCTED to study it "incorrectly" or "improperly"... There's usually a reason someone is doing something improperly... and eventually those reasons have a funny way of relating back to instruction and something a teacher/instructor did or said. Schools often focus their curriculum on war, conquest, and violence as if humans are capable of nothing else. It's easy to get a skewed view, even if you find those subjects interesting or even fascinating... It also leaves a flawed impression of society and "progress". Hannibal of Carthage was NOT as "great" a leader as some stories and presentations would suggest. Most of his tactics only succeeded because the Romans at the time WERE classically educated about warfare, and restrained themselves to the assumption "Nobody's stupid enough to try that"... A concept relied upon by the current Russian military culture, and dubiously termed "Smekalka"... If Hannibal had been "great", as has been suggested (including by the Romans), he wouldn't have wasted TWO armies trying to force march elephants through and over the Alps. It SHOULD have been investigated, and quickly abandoned... BUT instead of finding the cultural nuances like "smekalka" from Russia, or the concept of "dying with music" as they also say, we're left with an over-rated view of their voracity for violence... AND instead of seeing the folly in Hannibal getting by on nearly "looney-tunes logic", we still have textbooks that might as well have been written by Roman generals who NEEDED to excuse their losing to a "somewhat foolish lunatic"... It's not our fault. The schools fall short, and authentically adults seem to have a misconception that children are attracted to violence and mayhem... They also like to laugh... and Julius Caesar once attacked one of his own cities by mistake, because of a meteor and the silly belief in "omens"... He (the great Roman General) burned a city to the ground, over a shooting star... Finding that out, at least to me, made it easier to accept life. "We all have off days" I suppose is more timeless and poignant than it probably should be... haha ;o)

The god apollo fell in love with her thanks to a curse cast on him by cupid, and chased her through the forrest, she was so distraught that she prayed to her dad, the river god peneus to help her, so he turned her into a laurel tree (some myths it's zeus who she prays to) Apollo hugs the tree declairing his love for her but as she can not be he turns her ingo a lyre, and uses her branches to form wreaths for his bow and quiver

Basile has some really PG tales. There is another one, that aside from Basile's version I have also got one version of in my region (the Castellonian province in Spain) called "The Flayed Old Crone" Two old maids, sisters, who play matchmaker with the local crown prince. One of them has to hide in the dark, pretending she is allergic to sunlight, and only show a pinky finger, which she sucks to keep it smooth. The prince is smitten by Cupid's arrow (like in this myrtle tale), and the mystery lady comes to court first incognito masked, then to the prince's bed in the dark. When he realizes what a dirty trick he has been played by candlelight, he chucks her out the Palace window. Wizards or fairies discover the crone and turn her into a beautiful girl, whom the prince marries. When she has to get revenge on her sister... I give no spoilers!!!

I think it’s partly a referencing the Daphne and Apollo myth, at least the beginning part. The part about ripping chunks off the body sounds like Maenads attacking Dionysus. The Prince’s punishment is outright plagiarised from the Biblical story of Esther. Haman’s lines to the king are almost identical to those of the women. It is quite the hodge podge of myths, but maybe that’s the point. Maybe it’s a satire of some kind.

I've heard about a story by Charles Perrault called "Blue Beard". The story is about a man who married a young girl and takes her back to his castle. Upon arriving he gives her the keys to the castle and tells her that she a is forbidden her to go to a small room on the lower floor. He leaves shortly there after and she decide to go to the room to investigate what he was trying to keep hidden. To her discovery found the room to have clotted blood on the floor and the dead bodies of several women hung along the walls. They were all the wives of "Blue Beard" that had their throats cut. When he returned home find one of the seven keys that he gave her was covered in blood from the young girl had dropped on the bloody floor of the room. He was angered by this asking her why the key was bloody and she told him she had seen the room exclaimed I do not know all. Then he pointed out she knew well enough and that she should take her place along side the ladies she seen in the little room. With this he decide she was going to died and that she was going to die by his own hands. Her sister and her brothers help her survive his attack. Since he had no heirs she became the mistress of all his wealth and helped her family along with remarrying a man who allowed her to forget the horror of "Blue Beard". This is summery of the story, because it is more graphic. Also I found out there has been an Opera and Stage play of this story that is very Adult and not kid friendly. It is also some times known as "Bluebeard's Castle "or "The Bloody Key."😱💙🏰🗝🩸

As far as old fiction goes I still remember the one about the priest from the Canterbury Tales dealing with this not-so-bright woman at confession who thought to himself "and just as he was thinking she was the right terrain for plowing..." Just like now steamy stories and innuendo are nothing new. Hell...in Apocrypha (Elder Scrolls Online) Hermes Mora uses them as structural support since their so common and are thus of no particular value to him what-so-ever.

Honestly its not that bad i find one version of repluza worse where she pregnant she gets all her hair cut off then has the babyies while trying to find her lover. Her lover was blind by being pushed out of the tower and falling in a thron bush and walk around blind not knowing where he was going until repuzal found him cryed into his eyes and healed him

Can someone help me understand the moral? I'm not getting it. The lame goat gets by if there's none to block it? Does that mean the 'lesser' ladies do just fine for the prince until he finds a superior 'specimen'? So the lame goat are the ladies and the myrtle fairy blocks them?

I heard a MUCH censored version of this (basically cutting out the whole first part about the plant birth and bribery, as well as cutting out all the weird fetishes and drama from the prince) called “The Myrtle Tree Fairy” where the prince already has a Myrtle tree that he keeps on his balcony and she apparently falls in love with him over time; so she eventually reveals herself and… the story basically continues as you described, though much censored. But it frames the other six women as cruel murderers to this fairy, and specifies that the youngest does NOT brutally harm the Myrtle fairy or her tree (having only taken a few leaves off the top of the tree and mistakenly moved the bell when she did.) and only takes a golden hair as an afterthought. The Prince also sees the crime scene, so he has proof of the harem lady’s horrible deed. Honestly it’s one of my favorite fairy stories ever, but I’m VERY glad that somebody cut out all the NSFW stuff in the version I read. Lmao.

My paternal grandmother was named Mrytle. She had a horrible life bereft of love from her parents and first marriage, her middle name was also Belle, so to find out her name meant basically “Love” and “Beauty” but she didn’t experience either until she was middle aged and too damaged to really enjoy or understand what she finally had… damn. Thanks for this, I love you videos abitfrank 🖤

There is a Czech movie called Little Ottik, also called greedy guys. Based on a folklore. Anyway it's very similar to this but different enough. He wife wants a child but can't, so the woodsman husband goes into the forest and fines a root of a tree that vaguely looks like a baby and brings it home any they adopt it as there own. Where as it's animated (stop motion) and starts eating them out of house and home.)

Princes themselves are mythological creatures. With a wave of their hand they pardon any crime, and grant such fortune as to alleviate all want for the rest of your days. Not even a fairy godmother can offer such blessings.

I remember this story, but I swear it had a live adaptation. Kind of like the story about the young man and that followed the maidens and his friends or brothers into the fey realm. The maidens were force to dance at a private ball and later rescued the maidens. This is digging way back into my old memories.
