What's up, guys. Sunshine here to hopefully help shed some light on a few things about this video: The takeaway from this training isn't to take a private with a world-class competitive black belt, but rather when you learn something new in class to drill it a few times with no resistance until you get the movements down(which usually doesn't take that many reps), then to set up a live, but very specific sparring scenario that puts you in a position where you can try the move and experience real reactions to speed along the learning process. Having Keenan there to correct us as we make mistakes is extremely beneficial but is the cherry on top and not the main aspect. As far as Tony(the white belt), he's been training jiu-jitsu for less than a year but is a former professional athlete who now trains jiu-jitsu every chance he gets and is a total badass who would wreck most white and blue(and even some purple) belts. Hopefully, this helps answer any questions.

Tony Fernandez yea, rolled with a “brown belt” the other day.... the kind of guy who can never allow himself to be in a compromised position. Ever. Then I end up in deep half and coming out the back side and about the 5th time I’m about to take his back and he spins around so fast he spinning elbows me in the nose and breaks it. I’m like how are you a brown belt but don’t know it’s ok to work out of defensive positions?

@jorgeherrera10745 жыл бұрын
Guess you didn't understand. The idea is to do a kind of "troubleshooting" drilling. Ideally you already know these moves beforehand and you're going through the motions in a slow easy pace to better understand the flow between the moves. Because the white belt doesn't know the moves, that's why Keenan needs to teach them to him, but any higher level belt would be able to teach you these moves to a proper degree if you yourself are a white belt.
@brianrice16135 жыл бұрын

@juntjoonunya92164 жыл бұрын
You need an experienced blue belt at least, like myself. I do it like half the time I roll. It's the fastest way to improve. You really never need to free roll so long as you specifically work each position which is exponentially more efficient. Two white belts can figure it out too but may need to ask others questions. Even without a knowing partner, you can fall into the positions you want to practice and basically do this live drilling on your own. It's just a little limited in what you can do with an unknowig/willing partner

10:49 yes but you can shoot an armbar from the back if you have your head below his. Rener and Ryron did a video on it a while back. I believe they called it the weak side back position.

The same side as the overhook if you have seat belt. Your opponent wants to escape to the other side, so your hook on the same side will keep them from moving in that direction.
