I got to disagree with Collin. People generalize the primarchs or just feed into memes about them and type base their charcaters like “perterabo is bitter” Like yeah, that’s the point of his character, but there is certain aspects and moments in the books that make this godlike figure relatable. Perterabo just wanted to build, make things work, and build a better world. He hated that everything he made was never used for its purpose and when he built the theater for Fulgrim he was genuinely happy and excited to see something he made be used for the right reason. When Fulgrim went into his mind he saw that Perty was creative and wanted peace and was a genius of his craft. And even said himself basically “myself and the others had judged you all wrong.”

This is why when they were posed the question of what 40k character to put in another universe I was just like "Perturabo in Factorio". He just gets to build things and make them better forever and chances are he'd resolve the bug issue for the most part by realizing they hated the pollution and just make a point of engineering with eco friendliness in mind. He'd probably even send his plans and projects out into the universe for all to use and attract people to the planet and region over time just by merit of his genius and marvels. I'm sure there'd still be territorial issues but far less and I doubt Perturabo would mind creating turrets and defenses for the sake of protecting his great creation. He seems like he might consider that the "right reason" to build war machines. To be fair you could just do that with any planet in 40k but he'd be in a whole new universe with a fresh start and zero expectations from anyone. No Chaos corruption, no Imperium, no father to get revenge on, no war to fight. Just him and his own choices.

Entertaining hot take. Is he a bit of a spiteful manchild? Yea he is. Is he as much of an artificer as Vulcan, yes. Does he have a compliance rate (pre heresy) to match the best of his brothers despite being handed protracted sieges? Yes he does. Was he absurdly undervalued by his brothers and especially Big E? Yes he was. He was a pillar of the crusade, and he hard carried the heresy. If there is one, only one thing to make him command respect, he did what we all wanted to do to Fulgrim. Pimp smacked the crap out of him and put the twat in his place. “And yet I’m the one holding the hammer!”

Perturabo is a hero and the best primarch

Agreed. Everyone hypes him up as a tactical genius when he just crams his sons into every meatgrinder he can find, then starts whining and crying and says “LOOK WHAT DAD MADE ME DO!!” Dehumanized his own space marines to the point that they gave up on any intelligent tactical approach and began to see themselves just as Perturabo saw them, that being nothing more than a number on a spreadsheet. Every other Primarch has the common sense to see that each Astartes is a fairly significant force multiplier, and that each one is an investment, that you can get HUGE returns on if you give them something to believe in, something to take pride in, and use them correctly. I shudder to imagine how massive of a drain on imperial resources the Iron Warriors were after Perturabo came around. Dude’s a total moron. I understand why people like the legion itself. Cool aesthetic, highlighting the ugliness of industrialized warfare, almost like the Iron Hands do. But Perturabo ruined them. Demoted them from supreme-quality genetically engineered supersoldier to Death Korps of Krieg with better armor, and he had his head crammed so far up his own ass that he just couldn’t comprehend the possibility that he was ever wrong to run his legion the way he did, ever, at all.

His compliance rate doesn’t even remotely justify the losses incurred by his tactical ineptitude, which is why his more pragmatic brothers couldn’t stand him. He spent the whole damn crusade just gleefully cramming his legion into every galactic meatgrinder he could find, getting them slaughtered by the thousands in every battle. He’d kill anyone under his command that may have suggested a decent tactical approach in a fit of baby rage, because he had his head crammed so far up his own ass that he couldn’t countenance the possibility that he was wrong. Likely a result of his “I know everything” ability. Then when the dust settled and the losses were tallied, he’d basically just turn around and cry, going all “LOOK WHAT DAD MADE ME DO!!” Perturabo is the epitome of book smart, not street smart. Wasting resources and personnel wherever he goes just to prove that he’s got it harder than everyone else. Pert’s a loser 😂😂😂. Don’t get me wrong, the legion itself is cool as hell. I prefer iron hands but I can see why people like the 4th. Grim, tough, REALLY underrated paint job imo. Lots of ballistic weapons too which is a plus for me. Despite me being an iron hands fan I’m not all that into energy weapons. Their emphasis on breacher squads is a favorite angle of mine too, what with my love of the Medusan Immortals. The legion itself? Cool as all hell. I’m willing to gloss over that Daemonculaba crap because Honsou is a total weirdo and the Savage Morticians are creepy DM levels of degenerate. But Perturabo? Perturabo’s the worst part about the legion. He ruined them. I’d be willing to bet that if he was never found, they’d have gotten a lot more done during the crusade with far fewer losses.

Perti was the guy called in when his brothers could not handle it or got bored and still his compliance record was near G-Man and Dorn the self deprecating. As for losses, well post decimation his losses were lower than Morti’s. Mortarion was the inept moron who fed human wave attacks not Perti. There is a good reason why he had the numbers during the heresy and after the heresy. Hell the fourth rivals the “black legion” without the “we take anyone” attitude. Besides, if the guy was inept, how did he crack the palace with Dorn, the Kahn, Vulkan, Sangi, Big E and Malcador the creepy on defense? The two legions would objectively have been better off without their primarchs, the 12th and the 17th. I would not blame Perti for Honsu’s experiments. Secondly, yes the guy is completely undervalued. When Dorn was sperging out he fell into Perti’s trap and got his legion decimated. Now who’s tactically inept? Dorn screwed up compliance with barbarians. Perti got worlds no one else would attempt. Besides, whatever else he did. Humbling Fulgrim the Fop is a very redeeming act. Hell the fourth came back and helped the imperium against the Beast.

The difference between Lucius getting resurrected and Kharn dying and coming back is Kharn was likeable in the first place.

​@@danielhaase6738Kharn used to be the World Eaters' voice of reason. He was the one guy who could just talk to Angron. He also had friends, in and out of the World Eaters, and generally had a better handle on his emotions - even when he was kicking Erebus' teeth in for getting his best friend killed, and also for being Erebus. The "Betrayer" epithet came after the World Eaters were good and fallen, and now... well, let's just say Kharn does one thing very, very well.

I came here to throw Cerbius Iagon onto the pyre of hate. 2nd in command to Salamanders 3rd Company sergeant Zek Tsu'gan (who could also be on the hate list); but this Salamander (Iagon) from the trilogy of fire has zero and I mean ZERO Salamander qualities. Like everything about him and every thing he does makes you wonder how he ever passed ANY of the multiple rites and tests to become a Space Marine, and a Salamander. Badly written so he of course never dies and continues to annoy you. There are good villains, he is not one.
