Poison Ivy has the ability to control plants at the molecular level, so imagine the damage she could do if she started manipulating pollen. If she gets enough of it in one place, she can just fill your lungs with the stuff. Going even further with this idea, pollen has tons of surface area, with little pits and pockets to help it bind to different substances. She could easily use it as a vector for her various mind-control serums, love potions, and lethal toxins. And she could deliver them invisibly over as wide of an area as she wants, straight into the victims' lungs. Since she has the ability to connect to every plant on earth, at any time, she doesn't even have a limit on the effective range of this ability. Scarecrow, eat your heart out.

There was an event a few years back where I live referred to as "the pollening" during which I somehow managed to inhale an absurdly large amount of pollen that had caked onto my car and erupted into a cloud when I opened the door, inducing a bronchospasm that prevented me from exhaling more than halfway and made it almost impossible to inhale again, at which point I rushed to the er, was immediately given albuterol (this was the same er I had to sit in the waiting room at for almost 9 hours when I broke my arm as a kid) which stopped it almost instantly, and was then asked if some of the emt students could come over and listen to my breathing with a stethoscope so they could learn what it sounds like since it caused this faint rumbling when I breathed that persisted for a while.
@iciclecold2991 Жыл бұрын
Actually, she has used pollen to do exactly that on several occasions. She once got Superman with mind control pollen.
@VoidHalo Жыл бұрын
Some types of pollen have large surface areas. I admit, I'm no botanist, but I've seen a few micrographs of various types of pollen, and I recall there being quite a wide variety of shapes and sizes. But the one I really remember (this was over 10 years ago mind you) was large, spherical and only had these little spikey things sticking out, maybe 20 in total. Not a huge surface area, but still more than a simple sphere. I also recall much more complex shapes which definitely look optimized for surface area. But it's not a very good vector since the size difference between a grain of pollen and a molecule is millions of times, give or take a few orders of magnitude. It seems like it would be like trying to use a balloon as a vector for transporting pollen. And sure, you could load up more molecules of your poison into the pollen grains, but then they won't be light and floaty anymore. Chemical weapons in real life are usually just aerosolized, so there is no need for a specific vector carrier like you described. The munition just disperses a cloud of microscopic particles of the agent across the target area, and everything within it is affected. That's part of what makes them so controversial and bad to use. They kill civilians and military, women and children, indiscriminantly. Now if you could get your pollen delivery to target a specific group of people, say just military, that could potentially be helpful in limiting collateral damage. If you're concerned about that. I like where you were going with this idea, though. It reminds me of the various nanotechnologies they're looking into that would use some large molecular structure, or eventually robot, to deliver drugs to a patient at a cellular level, rather than just injecting them into a vein and having them affect every part of the body, rather than just the part you want to fix. Like being able to target only cancer cells with chemotherapy drugs so you don't get sick from the chemo killing all of your healthy cells.

While it's technically not a plant, it's canon that Poison Ivy can spawn and control fungus as well (for example, she uses glowing fungi to light an escape tunnel in Arkham Asylum: Living Hell). Given that fungi fall under the umbrella of her 'plant control', then there's a whole mess of new 'evils' at her beck and call. And it, of course, gives her control over the most villainous life form on Earth: The Cordyceps. I'm positive that you would have mentioned this wonderful mushroom at some point, because how could you not, but in case you haven't, the cordyceps is the stuff of nightmares: The life cycle of the cordyceps begins as a spore (like many fungi), which lands on a host--usually an insect. Once infected, the mycelia invades the hosts' body, slowly replacing its tissue, and literally hijacking the nervous system. The host begins to behave unusually--so much so that social insects such as ants will kill it and drag its body as far away as possible. Which is for the best. Because when infected, an organism gets a sudden, overwhelming urge to climb. And once it's as high as possible, it clamps down onto whatever surface it's found, and it erupts. Stalks burst out of its body (or "pericethia" if ya nasty), which then shed more highly infective spores. Now, cordyceps usually only target one very specific species of insect, so it won't completely wipe out an entire ecosystem--but if Ivy is in control of it, and could have it target humans, the results would essentially be an airborne pathogen that grans Ivy control of its host as their innards are slowly converted into more mind-melting mushrooms which, even if she lost control of them and were left to their own devices, would wipe out a significant swaths of the planet's human population just by its nature. For a final hint about how deadly and horrifying a controllable cordyceps would be, the survival horror game The Last of Us used cordyceps as its 'big bad', but actually had to nerf it to 'zombie physics of contamination' because its natural method of propagation is *way* too deadly. Edit: Also, "Hi, Kyle". Lliam is technically William, so it would be rude not to say hello.
@ithalathegayguy5 жыл бұрын
The cordyceps is such a cool and terrifying fungus..... @ithalathegayguy5 жыл бұрын
@@mr.funkbot7048 as it currently is, no, it could not.... it really doesn't reach too far past ants..... but fungus evolves just like everything else and there is nothing stopping it from getting stronger and able to infect more things.... also, in the situation if Poison Ivy, she has been shown many times genetically manipulating the plants she controls so they're unlike any existing plant.. there is no reason she couldn't do the same with a fungus as terrifying as Cordyceps....

I like this, instead of just “what is the most toxic fungus she could control?” You went in a much more...sinister...direction. This thing would literally create mushroom zombie humans with spore stalks and people climbing trees, skyscrapers, and poles everywhere before exploding with...presumably an amount of flesh and blood, but also a giant cloud of zombie spores. When you watch the recent Because Science episode on Thanos dusting humanity, he gives some figures on how much ash we’d produce, and if you just swap ash for zombie dust, you can imagine why this would be the most horrifying way to annihilate humanity

Let’s talk other options that are maybe more dramatic and visual for comics. Dr Pamela Isley was a botanist and even before having super powers had the knowledge and skills to mutate super plants. So let’s say she wants to make giant carnivorous plants. One option for a nice horrific trap for hostages could be a giant pitcher plant. These under appreciated carnivorous plants trap insects, frogs, and sometimes rats in a slick sided pot shaped plant filled with digestive fluid which would trap and slowly dissolve the victim into a giant pitcher of person soup. Alternatively the more famous option is a giant Venus fly trap. Death by fly trap is way more horrifying than you may believe because the inside of a fly trap doesn’t crush its victims but instead the leaves become concave and form a watertight seal then fill with acid which frowns and then slowly dissolved the target. Either of these seem to me like excellent under used time sensitive plot elements for future Poison Ivy stories
@chrishubbard646 жыл бұрын
She has used venus flytraps before in the animated series at least,. Batman just kinda chops them down with batarangs. Or cuts his way out with the same tools.
@TopaztheSpaz6 жыл бұрын
I think she has actually used both of these before in the comics over the years.
@jaimie006 жыл бұрын
I had the same kind of idea, only using genetically engineered "super sundews" with huge tentacles. The perfect way to hold a hostage, like whomever Batman is crushing on. You know, so he will show up to save the day, knowing it's a trap, but not caring, blah blah blah. The super sundews would also make great interrogation facilitators. You either tell her everything she wants to know, or be slowly (or not-so-slowly) digested by the plant. Aside from messing with the size of the plants, she could also make the digestive juices more potent so that they work faster. With the huge tentacles wrapped around your whole body, being eaten alive, I think most people would tell her anything she wanted. Then she'd probably leave them there to be eaten anyway...Because Villains.

Personally I'd be more interested in mutant sundews or butterworts that have the ability to ensnare humans with natural glue and then crush them

Ohk Kyle. Love the show. Now, I believe you missed the one way Poison Ivy could legit kill a whole lot of everything in this world. She can do this by acting on a microscopic level and she could literally hold the entire world hostage. Here's how: Phytoplankton. Yea, these hyper important microscopic plants (most phytoplankton are unicellular plants) produce 70% of the planet's oxygen. If Poison Ivy were to get entire populations of phytoplankton to stop reproducing ( i.e., leave the population in limbo or maybe just reduce the numbers of the phytoplankton very much; not telling them to commit suicide, just asking them not to reproduce; that way she doesn't hurt or harm any plant) it would reduce the planet's oxygen level drastically. ( *She wouldn't even have to actually go through with this (since she probably wouldn't want to do so either) but if she could just act like she's totally unhinged and crazy maybe the bluff could fool everyone who knows. But then again all that wouldn't matter coz **_HE'S BATMAN!!!_* )If she got all of the phytoplankton to stop reproducing until just about 5-6 isolated populations remained, the percentage of oxygen in the planet's atmosphere would drop to (30/100 x 21/100=) 6.3%!!!. It would destroy entire food chains in oceans. It would cause absolute chaos in the world because so many people will be choking to death. It could literally destroy the world as we know it and all that power in the hands of Ivy... She could theoretically just rule the planet this way if she wanted to : give me what I want or the plankton stop reproducing!!! Creepy isn't it?
@madgeologist4956 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true, but...maybe I am wrong but wasn't her biggest concern to keep plants alive? I mean, sure; she could rule the world but wouldn't this particular move go against her core conviction?
@infiniteaseem65236 жыл бұрын
madgeologist she's keeping them alive, just asking them to not reproduce. That way they die natural deaths, but no second generation. I considered that myself when I thought up this scheme😁 edit : I did say in the latest edit that all she'd have to do is make the threat and act crazy, then hope to the plant gods that they all buy it
@ahightechlowlife6 жыл бұрын
If she wasn't bluffing, though, I would think all of the animals producing the carbon dioxide that these plants need would die thus killing the plants, no?
@infiniteaseem65236 жыл бұрын
Travis No😂 plants respire too. They produce carbon dioxide themselves. In effect they could drive their own life forever, no animals required. Of course on very small levels there would eventually be n imbalance in the oxygen/CO2 balance but that would take a while. We're talking just literally a few days or weeks at most and that's gonna be enough to make tumult and chaos reign supreme

The Hogweed (Heracleum Sosnowskyi) comes from the Caucasus and was imported to Central and Eastern Europe in '50 - '70 because it grew like crazy, and the amount of green mass and high acidity were perfectly suited for the production of cattle silage. It could not be eradicated. Even cut to the ground, it was able to grow. After the first euphoria, however, came a reflection. Acidity has begun to be a problem, as it has corroded agricultural equipment at an alarming rate. The cows did not want to eat it, and even if they ate it for unexplained reasons, the milk tasted of anise ... It was tried many times to eradicate it, but to no avail. He spread everywhere and at some time he took practically all of Europe. Now wherever someone sees it, it is removed immediately, but it's hard to kill it. The amount of herbicide needed to get rid of this hogweed was so great that all other plants in the area died, and the zone was no longer suitable for cultivation, and the hogweed had the chance to survive anyway. Kyle - I love the show. Seen ALL of the episodes (even back when it was on Nerdist). Keep it up!

Hence why flying through the sun makes him more powerful but doesn't make him less hungry. Hey Kyle. How would Batman deal with those plants? I know he’s the worlds best problem solver, so what would he have to do to protect himself and Robin from Poison Ivey? Honestly I don’t think it would be that hard. Every thing you described in the video has to do with touching the plants or possibly inhaling them. A full body suit would keep you from touching anything, and a helmet would stop any potential air hazards for the Dark Knight. It’s not the coolest of solutions but, it’s seems to be a simple one. After the battle or apprehension, Alfred turns on the bat-decontamination shower and everything would wash off. I guess if you wanted to get cooler with it, Batman could use some kind of gas bomb that renders the plants useless...

thats intentional, blasters were meant to be more humane weapons and the fact that they have way more 'ammo' in one cartridge than a standard firearms magazine, makes them far more sustainabke weapons, blasters usually cause surface wounds, bullets go right through ya

The projectile speed alone makes blasters sub par weapons at any range. Doesn’t matter how many rounds are in the clip if you can’t hit the target with any of them because they’re so slow. And ask Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru about how deadly blasters aren’t.
@akizeta6 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's comparing like with like. You shouldn't be comparing Star Wars weapons with real-world weapons, you should be comparing them with _movie_ depictions of real-world weapons. And at that, with weapons in similar genres. In some thrillers, forex, nearly all weapons work better for the protagonists than for their opposition.

Is not because there are more effective but blasters in the SW universe are more obtainable and affordable. They have learn to harvest energy so effectively that is easier to get energy to heat up normal hydrogen gas and blast it than to mine to find minerals, create powder, have an assembly line and create bullets.By the way normal bullets exist in SW but most people and ships would not use them because they add a lot of weight and simply carrying a blaster that makes mostly the same effect is more comfortable and they can recharge it almost everywhere instead that look for an specific caliber of bullet to work with your gun. Aside blasters make more damage to things such as energy shields (well at least that's the in universe explanation)
