@@PeachysMom yep totally. My abuser was SO SWEET and helpful to everyone around him. In the most cliché ways too, like carrying the groceries for a little old lady to her car, helping someone build a wheelchair ramp for their Abuela, literally sometimes taking the shirt off his back or shoes from his feet to give to people in need. Meanwhile I was living in a waking nightmare at home where I had zero autonomy, everything I did was wrong, everyone secretly hated me and I was lucky to have him, I owed him my body and mind and heart. The amount of "oh but he's such a nice guy!" when people found out what happened was truly gut wrenching. Helpful to know who to keep around and who to move on from being friends with, tho. Nice guy syndrome can cost lives. 💔

The perspective coming from a large number of male creators ive listened to has been that of 'yes he did horrible actions and he is a horrible person, but perhaps there was mutual abuse or toxic abuse'. This very much purpetuates the 'well, what did 𝐬𝐡𝐞 do? She must have deseeved it' narrative that has run throughout society. Its giving "he broke her jaw? Well what did she say? Oh, he r*p*d her? Well what was she wearing? Oh, he killed her? What did she do to deserve that?" Its misogynistic and needs to change.

People need to remember it never starts out bad. It’s always the opposite. The victim is always in hope that they’ll get that nice person back who was capable of showing love. There’s also often ties to the abuser, for example in this situation, they had a public relationship, I’m sure there was probably some financial manipulation, then eventually living together. It’s never as simple as just walking away, and to suggest it like it’s easy is just pure ignorance
@sighbers3x4764 ай бұрын
i was in a relationship for two years once. the guy was super great the first 3 months or so. then he started being physically abusive. smashed my head into windows, choked me out, broke my glasses etc. n i always thought that maybe if we got thru this “rough patch” then he’d go back to how he was. it’s always a fantasy w abusers. they play the part so well and then it crumbles. but by then the victim is so invested thinking the good outweighs the bad. in reality those fleeting moments of happiness are easy to focus on rather than the abuse.

it’s so scary when someone is extremely self aware and they know exactly how to appeal to their victims’ emotions. now i’m currently in grad school for criminal psychology, but people like this still catch me off guard. it’s hard to deal with people who can effortlessly pretend to be one way. there’s a distinction between mental illness and personality, and in most (debatable depending on your philosophical outlook on humans) situations, when someone does something wrong because of a disorder, it has nothing to do with their character. disorders cause disordered behavior, it is going to be ugly. people have a hard time accepting that human beings are at the mercy of their brain and not the other way around, but it’s a fact. in other cases, a person can have mental issues and also be an awful person. combining those two just results in a disaster for that person and everyone around them. to any abuse victims out there it’s human nature to be manipulated by emotions, it’s actually more of a positive thing than a negative one. it’s better to feel empathy more than less, even though it might not seem like it. empathy is what makes humans human, it’s the only thing that separates us from monkeys banging rocks together. to get the full human experience you need to have empathy, even though that can cause a considerable amount of pain. a lot more goes into how/why one person is especially vulnerable to abuse, but in this situation where you can’t help but feel bad for someone despite what they’ve done to you, you shouldn’t feel bad about that. to want to believe in someone, or being blinded by love, or even having skewed judgement because of previous trauma, none of that is shameful. it’s just human. i’ve never been in an abusive relationship but i’ve been known to think a partner could do no wrong, even when they’ve done wrong, right in front of me, multiple times. it takes a lot of strength to deviate from a behavior pattern you’ve gotten so used to, but i believe everyone is capable of doing it.

this is a serious issue, not hot goss. it's a difficult read and I recommend reading it as long as it doesn't trigger you

This story is trigger af for survivors. He’s exactly, EXACTLY, like my ex. My ex even kicked me and called me a dog too. Only difference is that I was stuck with mine longer because of my financial situation. So glad Alice got out when she did. ❤

My jaw is on the floor. My last serious relationship was an abusive one (happily single now and healing) with a manipulative person who emotionally tortured me for 7 months (the first months were full of love bombing, of course) until I had a mental breakdown and a mini-stroke. I feel for Alice on every possible level. The part that saddened me the most though was how much she undermined herself and showed a complete lack of self-confidence after he abused her, which is exactly what I did as well. I truly hope she finds healing in the future and that she finally recognises her value. Nobody deserves this treatment and nobody should apologise for being abused. This is so unbelievably sad. People who have self worth issues due to previous trauma are the perfect victims for these kind of evil scumbags.

This is why I DON'T TRUST ANYONE, this is why I'm not a fan of anyone i watch online or on tv. I keep telling people that YOU NEVER REALLY KNOW ANYONE until you actually do. So many people are very good at pretending until they get exposed.

He can’t even apologize properly. It’s about him and his emotions, etc. nothing of her other than briefly saying what she wanted to hear (repeating what she’s said, it isn’t her fault and the like). He’s insane.

Thank you so so so so so much for covering this. I haven’t been this disgusted in a long time and I haven’t been this disappointed in my own judgment of a person ever in my life. What a disgrace to the human race.
