I also agree with your take on the X's cost. There was a discussion on WatchCrunch specifically on whether or not this is too expensive, this was my thought (fwiw): The Twelve X is a titanium sports watch with an in-house COSC movement with 120 hour power reserve for $4865. The Bell & Ross BR05 Skeleton is stainless steel, uses a Sellita SW300 and charges $6900. The Maurice LaCroix Masterpiece Skeleton is in stainless steel, uses a base Valjoux 7750 and they charge $7400. If we want in-house, the closest is the Oris ProPilot X in titanium with a 10 day power reserve for $7600 or the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 for $13,500. I personally think that there is a resemblance of the CW to the Piaget Polo Skeleton, but that one's $28,500. My point of course is this: is the Twelve X a lot of money? Yes, $5k is a lot of money for most people, absolutely. Is it a lot of money for what you are buying, relative to what the market is for watches with a similar design or features? Not even remotely. I don't see what the problem is, beyond the complaint that it's a CW. Everyone's favorite watch company, Seiko, sells watches anywhere from $50ish dollars to $420,000. I have no issue with CW offering a premium watch with excellent finishing and excellent mechanics at an off-the-shelf price, even if that off-the-shelf price is higher than most of its collection.
@BrittPearceWatchesАй бұрын
THIS IS EXACTLY IT! And I wish I thought of comparing it to similar watches that are out there!!! Because I think that's what drives home the fact that it is reasonably priced for what it is. I agree completely with everything you said here!
@Antonio-qn2elАй бұрын
There's that way of looking at the question, the -other- way I look at it... through the second hand market. You can get a Zenith Defy Extreme 1/100th Chronograph with patience for a bit more for example. That's not an apples to apples comparison, for sure, but in the end we all do that when we ponder what to get with the money we earn with our sweat. They price hike is very very steep per se, and CW decided to forget about its core value just when the horology market has been going down the drain, two years steady, so idk who's buying the watch, this is not going to be a Bel Canto. I hope CW makes a 36 case version so Britt buys it and I can say I know one person who owns it :D
@frogsplorerАй бұрын
CW isn’t a price bracket, it’s a price multiple. They are open about pricing at 3x cost. I think it’s great that they do higher horology as well as more entry stuff
@davids.2317Ай бұрын
@Antonio-qn2el they haven't forgotten their core value at all, this watches retail price is still set at 3 X cost ..the reason its expensive is because its expensive to make.
@Antonio-qn2elАй бұрын
@@davids.2317 idk about that, more like x5. I doubt the cost is higher than $1k. SH21 watches are $2k-ish, isolate the cost of the movement from that price range applying the rule inversely. Then, there are full titanium sport integrated watches in the market for less than $500 -selling for a profit as everyone in the business-. Isolate the cost of the titanium parts. You can also follow another route, take a twelve titanium ($2k-ish) and account for the added cost of the SH21 movement. How's that $3k? Math does not check.

Wow, your channel is really growing! Those exclusive interviews were next level access! Im with you: I'm sized out of this one, but if it was smaller (which, of course, it won't be), I'd be saving my pennies as we speak. As an aside, I'm always interested in watch collector's opinions if skeletonized dials - it's such a divisive design choice among collectors, yet the two skeletonized watches that I own in my collection (I'm counting the Bel Canto in that) get BY FAR the most attention and comments from non-collectors. For the average individual, they think that it's fascinating.

I own the 12 and it is my daily wear; a lovely watch but I can’t see the date (eyes not as good as they used to be). Have an “X” on order and also a Bel Canto which I think will now both arrive around the same time. Really like that this is a great English brand delivering superb quality at what I feel is great value. Will need to resist wearing them all the time though as I do with the 12! Always looked to get a Rolex, but still don’t own one, moving my sights to a brand that really seams in touch with its customers. The 1908 Rolex does look a beautiful watch however…

That is a very neat watch. Looks great. I had a sort of skeleton phase some years ago when I was really into skeleton watches, but I am not into them as much anymore. But this has been done quite well. Decently legible with a nicely executed in-house movement that looks very nice in a skeleton watch. However, I still very much love the dial of the original Twelve, with its pattern and especially the dark blue fumé dial version, which also costs less, so I would probably prefer that. I do agree with you, the price is quite reasonable compared to other skeleton watches, some with lower quality off-the-shelf movements. This looks quite premium, placed above the original Twelve. Perhaps CW wants to bring out more premium models, which would me interesting, but I hope they do not ignore their ~$1,000 segment watches, which they have definitely not been ignoring lately.

CW fan boy here. Currently own three and gave another to my Son. Great value for money and great designs but this is doing nothing for me, even if I had the disposable cash to purchase it. Must admit though, I thought that about the original C65, with the 12 and 6 markers, blue dial. Until I got my hands on it. Now its one of my favorite watches. To me, CW are making a statement about their skills and pushing for a wider customer base. Understandable, I knew someday they would try to add to that "best watches under £1000" banner.

As with the iPhone X, the X is the Roman 10 here, I assume? - On the Belcanto the entire case is grade 5 titanium and the entire watch is so special that £3500 seems fair. For £4000 you can get a used Panerai Titanio 8-day. Exhibition case back and 300m water resistant. 192 hours of power reserve. Yes they are not known for great finishing, but if you have the wrist - for example 7” and above - then it’s a good fit.

This is a beautiful watch. And I can carry it off. I like a bigger watch and this would not be the biggest in my collection were I to acquire one. I just don’t think it’s the style for me. I’m kinda partial to watches with dials. 😎 It seems to be a trend toward “in-house” movements and “in house” movements tend to be big. Personally, I perfectly happy with off-the-shelf movements, many of which are very high quality, very robust, and certifiable for accuracy. For this CW, in-house makes sense because it’s part of the design. But otherwise, I don’t really see the need except for bragging rights.
@BrittPearceWatchesАй бұрын
Albertus! You nailed it! This is my biggest problem with the trend towards in house - everything gets bigger. -.- Even when you think of OMEGA, like when you wear the neo-vintage Seamasters - they feel so dang elegant! But the co-axial doesn't help in the thickness department either ;) But off the shelf movements are great! Easy to service, tried and tested.

just FYI grade 5 Ti is not "better" than grade 2 Ti. They have different alloy compositions and are used for different things. It is apples and oranges. Really dislike whichever industry person that came up with the grade 5 > grade 2 selling point

For me it does not matter if the name is Christopher Ward, Girard-Perregaux, Daniel Wellington or San Martin. Rolex, Tudor, Longines, Oris, Casio etc. - these names roll very smoothly over the tongue and let one identify with a timepiece rather a person I do not know personally.

Not sure that this is their most expensive, and it’s not their first skeleton. These signature pieces come and go. Unless I’m missing something, CW doesn’t provide an online archive of their discontinued watches for the public.
