Devious Machines Duck has had the sidechain overlay thing since it first came out 2/3 years ago. It also has MIDI trigger via sidechained to audio. Duck pioneered MIDI triggering via audio, they were 2/3 years ahead of this plugin

@@Paul-ui6in Although to be fair, Duck shows the sidechain signal, which you might have filter-shaped (for example, to trigger on the transient "click" of the beater). So Duck usually doesn't show you the **entire** kick waveform. I still use a 3rd party oscilloscope tool like Psyscope Pro to see the full interaction and reshaping between my kick/snare and whatever I'm ducking with those signals.

Love this! when you are in a creative space, u wanna work fast and although volumeshaper might be more advanced I prefer something like this which is quick and intuitive with a simple and logical GUI.

How to use it with Audio or Midi trigger without getting a click? In Ableton you can set midi offset so it comes before the kick for smoother volume ramp down and it fixes the problem

so let me get this straight, even with a midi track(kick) you can still select audio side chain, put kickstart on your synth bus, then select the kick from the side chain menu like you would in normal side chain compression? If so this is a game changer for me not having to do that complicated midi triggering and routing. Ive always found it so dumb and overly complicated. When i asked cableways about it they essentially said it was hard to do this which i thought was a stupid answer.

Hey yes, you can just route your audio in to trigger the sidechain. It's easy and just works! We like stuff that "just works", and that means a lot of fine-tuning behind the scenes to make that happen, so it works with all kinds of kick drums… so it detects the transient in the right place… so it doesn't detect long kick drums as multiple hits… but can still trigger fast and complex kick drum patterns… so it works with kicks where the transient is quiet compared to the "oomph" in the middle… Lots of things to get right here 😉

You mean the exact opposite? This is two clicks to sidechain instead of routing a bus/audio through a compressor plugin

Compressor sidechain is not that clean especially if you directly use the kick as trigger. You need to create a separate dummy trigger by using a shorter one shot click sample for better control by adjusting the release of the compressor. And also compressor sidechain is harder to setup

It has added new features that have rejuvenated it, but personally I prefer ShaperBox 2: the aspect I prefer is that I can draw infinite points and it has 3 adjustable band frequencies, where you can choose a different sidechain

I'll agree Shaperbox 2 is more intuitive but I've found over time that any plugin that gets "close" but saves you time ends up being more valuable. I'm always on the hunt for plug-ins that do things quicker.

We streamlined Kickstart for Kick transient detection (although it works just fine on almost all percussion that has obvious transients, snares, hard synth sounds etc), while ShaperBox is made for a wider range of control. But yeah, it's going to come!

@@Jimmie1242 There is a pre-duck actually for biggest impact when the Kick hits. We just took the minimum time necessary, and we made it super-smooth. (Note: You can actually turn off the pre-duck via the Main menu, but in 99% of cases you'll want leave it turned on.)

Kickstart one was not really useable for me in ableton because if you put fx before it in a chain it knocks the sidechain off time due to latency but this sidechain input via audio option solves it! No more delayed pumping and it cost me £4.50 to upgrade from version one! BARGAIN

This is awesome! One question I have is that with volume shaper from shaper box you can side chain the low frequency’s differently from the high frequency’s. Is this possible with the new version of kick start buy using 2 of them to side chain. One for the low and one for the highs. I hope what I’m trying to say makes sense. If this is the case I think I’ll start using this over volume shaper because that audio button works so much faster then setting up volume shaper.

Kickstart 2 splits the audio into two bands, and the sidechain curve is applied to the low band. The high band passes through untouched. So it's not possible to create separate curves for low and high. You can try Big Z's trick in the video at 3:34 though, running multiple Kickstart 2's in series, to achieve something similar.
