But the solo experience is where monster hunter truly shines. It forces you to take your time and learn the monster, instead of letting three other MR 100+ guys do all the heavy lifting. The feeling of finally defeating a monster after some failed attempts is something that can’t be felt when you’re being carried.
@JackdotC
@JackdotC 10 ай бұрын
@@MistikCoweird gatekeeping my guy. Whilst I agree that having high level hunters join and carry you through a fight, where MH really shines is with a party of people around the same skill and equipment level. It is a co-op game primarily. It's on the high rank hunters for joining an urgent quest of a low ranker. I know this BC after you get to the end game I enjoy the game even more, BC every body is around the same skill level and has the same level of gear, so fights take an appropriate amount of time
@MistikCo
@MistikCo 10 ай бұрын
@@JackdotC And how exactly was that statement gatekeeping? I never said they weren't a real hunter if they don't play solo, I merely stated what they were missing out on by going down the route they choosing. If they enjoy how they are currently going about it, that's fine, however you can't argue that the excitment that one feels after overcoming a massive obstacle by themselves is the same as overcoming that same obstacle with three other random people, making the obstacle less challenging overall. Also, even at endgame, which is after the main story, there is still a decent discrepancy in skill between hunters. A prime example is how I can usually predict how a Fade To Black(Fatalis event quest) will go the second I respond to an SOS and look at the MR of the people in it.

The real curse of the SOS flare is killing the experience of doing multiple hunts with the same group of randoms repeatedly. World was the loneliest I've ever felt playing a MonHun game, and that's despite me having a dedicated group of friends to play with frequently.

I don't play world but I share the sentiment from Rise, long gone are the days of newbs entering a high rank lobby asking for help, well you see it from time to time but it's much less common now and overall it feels harder to find a consistent party of 3/4 before getting to the end-game as compared to MH 3/4

@@Punkqurupeco In all fairness, I remember back when 4U was still relatively new, and it's where I did most of my online play, but it seemed like the vast majority of people wouldn't help newbies, roasted anyone that didn't run the meta equipment, and were all around unfriendly and quick to ditch the lobby for any reason. I can't remember a single time in 4U where I was able to get in a lobby with even one person staying for more than one quest. Frankly, it's part of why I ended up soloing nearly all of the MP quests (well, I also finished all the single player stuff and wanted more stuff to do. I learned that Fatalis with SnS solo when scaled for four players is brutal).

@@jacobpinson2834 ok so first its hard to say without knowing your weapon but basics are ice is his weakness and weapons that do high stun damage destroy him. if you want to embarrass him then bring one level of tremor resistance easiest attack to doge is his slam it looks intimidating but rolling away once will completely invalidate it and give you some down time he then might follow that up with a change in which case just roll towards him and you shouldnt take any damage if he jumps and plants his hand in the ground you can either roll past that or literally just walk around it most of the time you dont even need to doge it if he does his 4 piece combo then that can be doged by just going under his armpit most of the time (or if you are good at positioning just walk around him) if he jumps in the air and does a frontflip down to you, you can avoid damage either by rolling or just walking he likes to follow this up with a arm plant and then a slam if he ever jumps and does the shooting attack that explode if you roll once towards him you will be right at his face (be careful in enraged since the downtime this gives you is a bit lower) and lastly the slam attack where he creates cracks can be avoided in two ways either he does it close to you and you just go to his right or he does it far and you go between the gaps sorry if its not detailed enough but if you tell me your weapon i can see if i can give a more in depth breakdown

I played very poorly from my perspective today, I remember that two of the three SOS players even abandoned the quest within the first 5 minutes. However, the one player who remained carried me all the way through, I was so impressed that I had even uploaded that run to pay respect. Tbh, if Im farming investigations for decorations or monsters in the guiding lands I usually send SOS flares. We all know we are there not because I need help but to get the juicy loot fast. I know thats not the intended way of using the SOS flare but it always feels good when a player doing a high reward investigation or with a max level in one of the biomes of guiding lands send a flare, it really helps the grinding. Also, feels good to play repeted monsters with other people, first time I always want to solo them for the experience (except cases like behemoth, kulve or safi) but after that is always more fun doing them with more people around, even if they make you fail sometimes.

Sometimes SOS flares are an enjoyable way to watch other people play and show off their skills. There are those who demonstrates to you how to absolutely destroy a dragon, those who share the same braincell as you, those who plays the support role in helping everyone get through the hurdle. That said, there are of course people who leechs, and makes the fight much more unbearable than it has to be, but those are the few bad apples inbetween. I do agree with the solo win first, before you ask for help, or help others, though there is no shame in needing help either ways.

As a verteran MH player since MHG(2005), I don't really see it as a problem. I actually enjoy party member getting carted or the quest failing because I see it as a learning experiences for them. Everyone was there at some point. If I do need the run to not fail, I just run solo. Besides, SOS flare is not mandatory anyway. I am afraid the minmaxing mentality is ruining the experience for players. A game with no fail is just a boring power-fantasy.

So instant sub for me and heres why: I had the privlege of Playing the Wilds Demo at Twitchcon this year. It was my first experience ever with a Monster Hunter title. I fell in love so hard and so fast, I came home, bought World and Iceborne and began my journey into my first ever Monster Hunter title. What attracted me wasn't Doshaguma, or even the weapons. It was that 4 complete strangers got put in a room, told what they were hunting and went about it. The sense of accomplishment and pride that we just took down a beast was addicting. Yesterday I got my first Alatreon clear with friends. Im now MR 119, and im running the Brachy LS Build. I have a journey ahead of me before I face Fatalis for the first time but what you said toward the end stuck up. You may prefer to play solo, but you're not toxic and say 'guh thats not a real victory, do it solo' a kill is a kill. Doing it with community just makes it better. Happy I found this channel. Although this does actually give to me context for why they made the dlc monsters have separate quests for once killed vs first kills, if you want to use sos to ranodm matchmake multiplayer for farming if you think multiplayer is comfier, you'd join the post kill quests so there's a clear marker for who is expected to be struggling and need help vs who wants to collaborate on easier farming together.

im a recent MH player (started with World as my first and about 250 hrs in) Tbh, Alatreon and Fatalis was quite hard when i got to it especially when my equipment wasn't up to date and my LS skills weren't really on par. The friends who invited me to play MH:Iceborne even hated Alatreon and refused to help me fight it, so i had to kill it myself. Same with fatalis too. Dozens of carts and SOS calls later with strangers i managed to get past both. However, during my first Fatalis clear, a SWAXE player with overlay commented at the end of the hunt that I did only 16% of the damage of the entire hunt. That made me extremely mad so now with both drags cleared and new equipment, i learnt to get better and started learning new weapons, and made sure i knew fatalis in and out just out of spite lol. it probably took me a month or two before im now helping people clear their alatreons and fatalis in special assignment because seeing people clear it for the first time is a good confidence boost and is really sometimes their only obstruction just like mine.

I tend to stat away from assignments and special assignments because i dont want to hard carry someone who isnt ready for that level of challenge up into harder quests that they will have to rely on more help, or joining others quests to complete it.

I enjoyed your vid and wish more players would watch it to learn from your experience. That said, I do think there's one part of your assertion that may be discounting one important aspect of SOS - My experience is that it's most commonly used to just let other players hunt for mats, even in more end-game dlc hunts. When I'm farming for parts, I fire the SOS first thing not because I need help, but in case other hunters need the materials from the hunt. Anyway, keep up the good work!

3 days ago i called an sos for silver rathalos and golden rathian hymn of the sun and moon quest. I was so mad, when all 3 players i called in had no clue how to fight these 2 monsters and constantly got hit by the supertailswipeattack all 3 of my carts were my 3 sos partners. I tried it solo today and beat it first try solo. I didnt need the help, but i wanted to beat the quest faster than the 45 minutes it took me to fight the two of them together but bad sos players made the experience so bad i dont think ill call in sos for any quests again. Ill leave it for investigations and events

Alatreon was my first real wall. I tried to SOS him, but it was basically impossible due to people not even knowing that you "need" elemental weapons and them carting in the first minute and failing the quest before we even got a few hits in (I also carted very quickly and a lot). Fast forward and I spent a few days / weeks trying to solo Alatreon every once in a while and managed to do it. (well I did it together with a friend so technically we duo'd him, but we learned the fight is my point). Made me a way better hunter and the satisfaction of finally beating him was the best.

I remember sending an SOS flare to hunt shara ishvalda since it was my first time fighting it. It took me i think around 5 or 6 attempts to finally beat it. I wasnt frustrated after a few attempts if people carted since I also carted but there was one person who ruined 2 of the attempts by carting a total of 6 times. when shara ishvalda was doing its rasengan the dude went to the middle twice. On my final attempt he carted twice and then we managed to beat it. By the time I was on my final attempt I managed to understand the monsters pattern and avoid getting carted.

Personally i didn't interact much with sos as i was interested in the solo/friend experience, but after finishing the game and becoming very familiar with most monsters i did take the time to join sos just to help out folks. I've carted (even multi-carted) as an sos helper, it just happens sometimes, but by and large the experience that i had while helping others was often that the people joining were very competent and wouldn't mind the host carting or playing poorly.

I have personally used SOS Flares in only 2 situations: -To get the trophy for firing one. -To let a friend join an expedition I was on. I’m glad they’re there for people that need them, though I do hate joining a lobby and seeing the one quest that’s posted being filled entirely with SOS responders.

I've found that the SOS flare is generally 75% useful before like midway through master rank. You start to encounter a larger amount of people who don't know how to play around there. However, when I got to the late game, that completely reversed. The few times I did SOS, I got people who absolutely could solo the quest we were on and were there just to spice up their MHW life by helping me. So all in all, the SOS flare is generally a positive thing to use. In my opinion.

On a little note that make the alatreon fight incredibly unfair when doing SoS. He switches phases on a timer, but this timer start when the mission does, not when start fighting him. Basically, if you join 3 minutes in, even if everyone stayed at camp, he will switch to dragon... And yes, 6 to 7 minutes and he wipes you for free.

I almost never join or fire an SOS until I’ve completed the quest itself ahead of time. After that, whenever I’m hunting the monster I fire off an SOS flare to say “Hey, I need X part, you need X part, let’s work together on this one” Of course, I do make occasional exceptions to this, mostly for layered armor, since I’m really just there to get what event material I need and leave.

I use all of the weapons regularly. Seeing ranged weapon users in Fatalis quests always makes me feel phantom pain, because I know from experience what it means. The awful head hitzone and gunner armour scaling causing you to be oneshot by way more of his attacks makes this fight so much more difficult for ranged players. It may seem appealing to some due to the ability to hit the head all the time, but the downsides are absolutely massive. Because of this I rarely ever use a ranged weapon for the fight myself, unless someone im playing with needs the wings. Additionally, most players play the game with a controller. And while I myself don't know how much of a problem this is due to using keyboard and mouse, I can imagine that the difficulty of tracking his head properly would only amplify the issues even more.

When I was trying to kill fatty/ally/AT velka, i noticed people join your quest to eat up your carts. So i killed em solo until I had all my gear. Now i just go to help SOS, though, neither wide range utility nor HH buffing can prevent people from dying. So the best way i found to carry fights is to dps as much as i can without dying. When you do 1/3 of the damage alone, the fight goes better as long as parts are broken or elem dmg is thresheld

My only SOS request was on HR Nergigante. After failing over 10 times, I started sending SOS for help, but no one ever came. OK, fast forward to attempt 23, I got a very good run, had lerned his moves and specially when to use the superman dive. I sent him limping to sleep with 2 lifes left. On my way to his nest, pretty confident I would win, someone joins. I placed 2 bombs on his head and this guy just did that triple charge with the greatsword, exploding everything and killing Nergi on the process. Now I just killed Velkana, but seems like the DLC will still go for a while (my 1st playthrough and I'm trying to spoil the least I can). I don't know how MHW matchmaking works, but I can't never find people asking for help on Anjanath, Legiana, Rathalos, even Teostra (either in Elder's Recess or on Wildspiral Wastes), which are fights I'm pretty confident I could help.

Doing Alatreon SoS is funny. I have like 10% success chance with Blazing Black, and like 50% in the event quest. Boils down to just people not bringing elemental weapons. I just laugh when I see lightbreak weapons on the host search and no one just joins. On Fade to Black it's kinda smooth like 80-90% success chance since everyone usually know what to do and if they don't it can at least be enough for me/ any one other team mate to be the one smokebombing and using the ballista and weapons for fatalis
