The most fun grappler in Fighting Games

We're back with more Persona 4 Arena Ultimax! Today we're talking about Kanji Tatsumi, one of my favorite grappler characters in Fighting Game history! We'll be going through his moves, his supers, combos, and showing some online ranked matches in the new Steam version of P4AU! Hope you enjoy!

A lot of people overlook Junpei and his super unique baseball gimmick and how the better you do in neutral and in other aspects can make him better or worse

I think that's exactly why people overlook him. Not many people want to work twice as hard just to be able to play the character properly and be penalized if they can't.

Not really, he’s just the worst character in the game by far. He needs a super hard to get install to be able to play the game normally

I think People over look junpei because of his history of being pretty bad in this game. However, due to shadow frenzy changes in this patch I think shadow junpei is a genuine threat bc be snowpalls bery quickly of pretty much nothing. I really think he might start getting recognised later down the line

Hell yeah, I'm stoked to see you playing Kanji! I got into fighting games with Strive and found a love of grapplers with Potemkin. Since then I've been trying every grappler I can find and I don't think I've come across a character that I vibe with as much as Kanji.

I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention that his normal grab moves him forward, and of course you can follow it up with his Cruel Attack special move. Also very important is that his D attack paralyzes opponents on hit, preventing them from using any movement that doesn't involve pressing A+B (pro tip for those who struggle at dealing with paralysis).

Love the fact that my boy is getting love. A couple things you did mention were how to use his lightning so. Of his grabs midscreen he can go into 5D instead of doing cruel attack follow up. Another way is off primal force he can do j.D. Also if your opponent is held down by lightning (im not sure if this only works off of 2D and 5D) but what you can do is run up side swap then do primal force during the side swap which leaves you I believe +6.

I'd like to see some Junpei gameplay from you! Also a little fun fact about Junpei in this game. If you look closely at his character model you can see he has a necklace with the design of the sword headpiece that Chidori always wore.

As an FYI, if they're not in awakening, and you have the meter burn it. You'll actually get more damage cashing out as much as you can since they can only go into awakening and get the extra health after they tech.

I loved this game when it was new, and P4A vanilla. IMO it hits all the sweet spots just right, the difficulty curve for combos and complexity is in the right spot... plus, there were absurdly difficult combos at the fringes of execution to distinguish the top top players from everyone else. Watching japanese players put Aegis into orgia mode and dominate was always entertaining. I wish Arc would move back in this direction, rather than the direction they've gone in with GGS.

dang this video was sick. i never considered myself a grappler player but i started trying out rainbow mika on sf5 and started to really appreciate the idea of grapplers. they are so fun against close/midrange characters but struggle so much against zoners. kanji seems like an amazing character though, that anti-air grab move is so hilarious to watch, and seems like he has some moves that work against zoners than usual grapplers do. i also never played persona before but always been interested in character design and this game looks so good. that ultimate move that's also rhythem game, legit gave me a wth that's so interesting reaction.

I was used to grapplers with mobility from KOF's Clark, but something about Kanji really was special. Just the absolute funnest grappler ever made with lots of cool combo paths.

In BBtag kanji is actually terrible to the point where it actually feels like they just hate kanji lmao. He got robbed of all his ranged options (primal force and the lightning) both of which being very important tools. These changes just mean kanji has 0 neutral in bbtag. On top of that, his walk speed in this game is faster than his running speed in tag. So even tho kanjis gameplan remains the same in bbtag the way you go about enacting it is different.

One of my friends plays a mean kanji, his dash and jump grabs are kinda hard to deal with when it comes to my style of play, I rely on zoners like yukiko but I love adachi's flexibility in game.

Kanji was my first main grappler and my fav P4 character and while I'd say Cerebella from Skullgirls is the perfect grappler in terms of tools Kanji has always been my favorite, his high hp actually being a big reason why. Love to see some Kanji action!

Hate playing pure grapplers, but hybrids are so fun. Z Broly, G, Sol. I know they dont pack the punch of Zangief or Potempkin, but the mobility and projectile options make up for it.
