You might look into the story of the US Army's Audie L. Murphy. He rose from the rank of Private to First Lieutenant, earned a total of 33 combat decorations including the Medal of Honor and both the French and Belgian Croix de Guerre, all before the age of 21. He later became an actor and starred as himself in the autobiography "To Hell and Back".

As a Marine who has read most MOH citations, the one that always seemed the most insane was Roy Benevidez. Wasted no time to go rescue his brothers. Didn't even grab his kit and at the end of it, disboweled and declared dead, he had to spit blood at the doctor to let him know "hey mf'er, I aint dead!"

The quote actually pre dates Daly. Frederick the Great used a version of it "Rascals! Do you want to live forever?" but honestly it's such a good line that more than likely if we went back to Roman times you'd probably hear about some Centurion who said it while leading a charge. It kind of transcends time

1:29 Camp Lejuene which you're probably thinking of here is a Marine base in North Carolina that is a big location for Marine training and things of that nature. They did have a water contamination problem for a few decades ending in the '80s. It's one of the few military bases that us American civilians(even those like myself who come from military families) can name off the top of our heads.

One of the largest Marine bases on the east coast of the U.S. is called Camp Lejeune and named after said General Lejeune. Yes, it is also where there was water contamination back in the 70's and 80's. My father was a Marine stationed there at that time period, and yes he was just treated for throat and stomach cancer - the number one illness resulting from said contamination.

So I'm still just starting to watch this but yes Camp Lejuene had a major issue with solvents being disposed of improperly near base wells for decades. I don't know the full details and I'm sure someone will probably give more information if you haven't looked it up yourself but I remember the contamination levels were insanely high.

I was stationed on Lejeune, and when the first thing that came to your mind when you heard the name was water contamination, i laughed so fucking hard i nearly hit the floor. Man when i was there the water fountains looked like they had guinness on tap

It is a Marine base named after Lejeune. It was created in 1941. Unfortunately, at that time they used to dump industrial waste down drains, and they used to bury animals that were used to test the affects of radiation poisoning around the base along with waste associated with those experiments.There was also a dry cleaner that was dumping chemicals down the drains as well. Apparently the big brass and certain government agencies were well aware of the contamination of the water for 17 years before they finally did something about it or acknowledged it as a viable health issue for veterans who had been stationed there or were damaged by the contamination of the ground water that they drank and showered in for years.

The U.S. military branches without direct leadership from officers is as Fat Electrician states "Default Aggressive", the USMC however even with leadership tend to be "Default Aggressive" it is in the absence of leadership that they "descend into savagery" embracing their grunt instincts. As soon as a charge is initiated there is no going back and they've chosen either a glorious defeat or brutal victory. The USMC may have the worst budget but they highest motivation of any military from any country, with one exception which would be the Gurkha's in service to the United Kingdom.

If you're worries about the Fukashima water, don't be. Compare the samples of what they want to get rid of to random third party samples from China's coastline. That is to say, samples of what China dumps on the daily, already diluted by ocean water. The undiluted stuff from the NUCLEAR ACCIDENT is less bad. I'd prefer it not be in the water either, but asking them not to is like telling your neighbor his cigarette is making it hard for you to breathe, while you are standing side by side in the street watching your houses burn to the ground.
