I suspect their father had a bad conscience for allowing the alcoholic mother initially getting custody (maybe in hope she should straight herself out because she would have to).* Steven was old enough to notice that and took every "advantage" he could. *Darren McCarvey (known under his rappername Loki) wrote something similar in his "Poverty safari". He and his sister was in joint custody of his father and mother despite his mom had serious addiction problem (and passed when he was 16). The father had not these problems but for some reason presumed that talking full custody could cause more problem and trauma.

The last Christmas I spent with my dad he was so weak from chemotherapy I had to carry him to his car So my mom could drive them home. When he started hospice we moved him in with us so that he could get as much time as he could with his grandkids. It just makes me realize how blessed I was to have the relationship with my father that I did

While everyone here is talking negatively about Steven Assanti, we have to recognize that there has to be something at the root of his thoughts, how he acts around friends, relationships, with family, and most importantly how he treats himself. I don't disregard his wrongdoings. However; An unpopular opinion in this day and age, but as a Christian, I only have sorrow and compassion. What he would benefit from by sitting down and talking his problems out with a therapist, could benefit him thousandfold. Something has to be going on at the root here.👍

I'm not writing off the trauma him and his brother more importantly went through, but at SOME POINT as an adult no longer in contact with horrible human beings calling themselves parents, you would realize they don't have any power over you, right? That you can finally unlearn those toxic behaviors and start to heal to some degree? That's of course if you aren't this guy and actually want to be independent, not move back in with the same people that caused you supposed grief.

I hate his treatment of hospital staff. It happens all the time. You have people who choose jobs trying to help people, and those same people in need end up being the most ungrateful. And people wonder why so many hospital workers “are mean”

I'm gonna stop you right there. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who that works jobs dealing with people gotta deal with this crap. In the same way the 7 pizza man isn't justified due to abuse, hospital staff aren't justified to treat people like crap who haven't warranted it. Some people deserve a rude to the point attitude with no room for excuses, but nobody deserves to pay the insane hospital bill and get treated like crap for the pleasure. Treat others how you wanna be treated. Don't expect kindness if you are an @$$.
