A lot of people still are - not because they watch the BBC of course. They are literally scared of what may happen if they don't pay it. Crazy to think that's the case given that you can check for yourself so quickly on the tv licensing website. If you don't watch or record live broadcasts and don't use BBC i-player on your devices then you do NOT need a tv licence. The thing is is that there are a lot of our elderly community that may still have a tv but don't have or use smart devices so they can't check these things. The BBC are essentially preying on these people. The way our elders are treated is unfathomable.

What this has demonstrated is that we have a need for the Swiss style referendum system,one which politicians will have to act on and obey the people's wishes. The petition system has proved to be toothless and nothing but an illusion of democracy. Not one has changed government policy,and this one won't either. It will send a message out,but communists don't listen to the people.

This is a very public petition, one that has taken off with record speed and numbers. The likelihood of Starmer honouring it is small. It doesn't matter, because he can't hide from its facts and to ignore it will build more public determination to find ways to dissent. That of course will be blighted by those who choose endless negativity and sap the public spirit. I agree with you on the Swiss style of referendums on issues that affect the wider public, such as my area where it has been decided without public consultation that we are to be a 'town of sanctuary'

Its interesting to watch the counter going up - as every time it refreshes the total goes up about 150 votes. every time. Which says to me the ACTUAL total is far higher already and the counter is throttling the speed at which it increases.... interesting....

I feel the need, once again, to remind people that our voting system results in 80% of the electorate not voting for this regime and yet they get 411 MPs. 23,000 voters to elect a Labour MP; 823,000 voters to elect a Reform MP. Seems fair.
