When my son - a 2nd gen 82nd soldier - was going thru JM, he tubed the practice JMPI, and was sweating the actual test the next day. I was probably more nervous, and when he called to say how it went, I had his mother take the call ‘cuz I didn’t want to hear bad news. He passed.

My Senior Drill Instructor was a Jumpmaster. He said it was the hardest school he had attended as a Marine. Even Recon Marines thought it was a tough course.

Prior to SF becoming a Branch in the 1970s....majority of Long tabbers had to go thru the 82nd AAS JM which makes Benning look like JV. That one is probably the worse being strict etc.

I went to the special forces jumpmaster school. What blew my mind and really pounded on my own confidence is I saw three SF guys fail! An 18B E7, an 18D E7, and an SF Captain from an ODA. These are like some of the smartest guys on earth and they didn’t pass. So I’m freaking! The two enlisted guys failed JMPI. I’m thinking if these guys failed, I’m in trouble! The captain failed actions in the aircraft and I had passed that by then, so that didn’t mess my head up so bad.

"Stay Alert, Stay Alive, JM Class 10-95. I remember In certain units on Bragg you could not wear green leadership tabs on Class-As if you were not a Jump Master. The school broke me mentally for sure, and back then the 82d black hats could get away with loads of crap. As of 2020 when I retired... regardless of school, (USASOC/Benning/Bragg), every student has to memorize pre-jump. Only SOF can read it from the book when performing duties, after graduation.

Good afternoon Green Beret. Sorry mate, 1983 British Para jump school. Enjoyed the experience. Wish I still that young 😅. For all the young men and women going to special forces it a necessity. But remember this Embrace the Suck.

I was lucky enough to be a first time "GO" through the Advanced Airborne School house at Benning in 2007ish. I BOLO'ed the written exam and was not re-entry qualified. I was so ready to graduate that place. I even hated seeing people talk in a gaggle after graduating because it reminded me of a JMPI circle.

Amphib Recon School at the Amphib base tops my list, don't know what they call it today, but it was three weeks of just plain old school torture, boats constantly breaking down leaving us stranded in the water or on shore in the heat with no shade, mosquitoes and gnats out the ass, sucked ass.

I feel you. It does seem like almost anything within the airborne community you either really love jumping or it is a hurdle you need to overcome to progress. You love being airborne for the most part either way.😂 I hate jumping, but it was a necessary evil and a required qualification in the progress of your job. The only aspect I enjoyed about jumping was doing boat bundle jumps out the ramp into water. So for the US it’s called RAM-Z. I never liked para door exits.

I went through the 82nd's course back in 2002. JMPI definitely sucks but the nomenclature and rigging test dropped a lot of folks before even getting to the thick of things. Not sure if they're still doing it like that on Bragg...oh my bad, Ft. Liberty lol

Is static jumping necessary? I heard a few people say, you can learn how to jump better without static jumping. Or maybe it's the difference between the static chutes and the chutes people use that they can guide and land with more control and accuracy

I would argue it is simply to maximize slots at HALO/HAHO. If you are too scared to exit the aircraft between 800-1200 feet, then you are not going to jump at 10,000 feet. As such, a slot at HALO school has just been wasted.
@seanmcpart832
@seanmcpart832 10 ай бұрын
There are many skydivers who have never conducted one static line. Static line is generally for a mass tac type event. Think airfield seizure. HALO/HAHO is a more clandestine infil method. More separate HALO/HAHO events in Afghanistan than SL.

ABSOFUCKINLUTLY! Jumpmaster school is one of those schools you need to absolutely go to as soon as humanly possible. If you have an asshole jealous bitch for a Team Leader or Squad Leader- tell them to STFU and go to the school by jumping the chain. I messed up, and I'm telling you from experience, in Division, Group, or wherever- you just need to grab your balls and go. Study, for the month, then just go. Don't listen to the jealous bitches trying to hold you back. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have gone as an E-4, when I should have gone. This damn school is still one of those that I hope I can go to, one of these days. I have no excuse, except that I should have gone and knocked it out when I first got to Division when I was young and spry. It was too late later on in my career when I got to Group. By then, I should have had it under my belt.

Agree 100%, go as soon as you are able, make it a point. Especially in the SOF Units you are helping the Unit by giving them another qualified JM to assist, OML usually isn't an issue, because like he says a lot of guys don't want to go to this school, so it shouldn't be hard to get slots. Even with the abundance of slots, I still only got 1 opportunity to attend and failed JMPI, wish I had pushed to go earlier in my career.

I hate static jumping. Y’all special forces go through a year of difficult training just to continue landing like a sack of potatoes. I can see why every FNG wants to go halo.
