Micah is unironically one of my favourite villains. His voice actor, Peter Blomquist, was also the VA for Dr. Fontaine in L.A. Noire. So definitely not his first rodeo with building a complex villain.

Yup, he's one of the best and his work in LA Noire was primo. I hope it's clear that I meant "villains you love to hate" as a compliment essentially 😅

He is not hated because he is badly written, he is hated because he’s the perfect villain. Something you have to admit Micah is just evil and manipulative. He ultimately killed the (imo) best gaming character ever. He first just seemed like a ruthless guy but then you realize he would do ANYTHING if it meant he could survive. He is just a hateable and incredibly written character. I love RDR2

@TheGreatLordDIOАй бұрын
I think Micah never really wanted to betray or rat out the gang. He did it because he was caught. Before and after that all he did was to benefit the gang: As for saving Dutch and how he met him, his gang was very famous so he took the opportunity to impress Dutch and join the greatest gang in the area. As for Blackwater money, I think it was simply a matter of pride, it was his job, it failed so he wanted to retrieve the money. Besides, he had the right to know where the money is since it was his job, and if they all went back if someone died trying to retrieve it he wouldn't care because he's not attached to any of gang members. The strawberry action, he admitted emotions got better of him because of Skinny. And he apologized to Dutch and Arthur both verbally and by doing the coach score with Arthur (which was very profitable compared to others) Making peace with o'driscolls, since there was no point in fighting them especially for Micah because he doesn't have the grudge against them, he doesn't know them taht well. Besides, there's no way Micah set this up. He never cared about o'driscolls, killed lots of them and took no issue with it. And he even apologizes to Arthur saying he made a fool of himself, trying to be tactical and falling for this trap. In Rhodes he pretty much saved Arthur and Bill because they were shocked when Sean got shot but Micah immediately killed the attackers giving boys time to hide. As for the return from Guarma. I think pinkertons just captured him, he led them to camp in Lagras and that's it, because for the rest of the game he just listens to Dutch's orders, makes plans with him, kills pinkertons and never contacts them again. He just wanted to hide his another mistake and blame it on Arthur and John so that he becomes Dutch's favorite. In beaver hollow he even tries to act like Dutch, he gives a speech about faith in the plan, he's the only one who supports Dutch during his speeches, no wonder he got closer and closer with him. In the end, he wanted to get close to Dutch because he saw the potential in sticking with the best gang there was, while he was pushing Dutch to more profitable (and more dangerous) jobs for higher profit. And in the end the whole train job with getting army and indians to fight each other worked perfectly, and it was a plan both Dutch and Micah made. Only thing that didn't work was Arthur telling everyone the truth. If that didn't happen, the gang would leave beaver hollow (as they were doing just before arthur got there) and get away with all the money. And the proof that he never intended to betray Dutch is in the epilogue. All those years later and he never tried to track Dutch down and hand him over to pinkertons, they both went for the money from Blackwater and both got back, so it was no set-up. He made his own gang, and it was Dutch who reunited with Micah. But in the end Dutch's plan was to kill Micah (its when John asks "what are you doin here Dutch" and Dutch replied "Same as you I suppose" hinting that Dutch just needed Micah to get the money and kill him after that for the betrayal and manipulation). What's also interesting is that Micah tried to be friends with Arthur since Arthur was the strongest gunslinger in the group. He tried time and time again being nice to Arthur (there are a lot of camp interactions of him approaching Arthur and just saying "Oh hey there brother", and he's rarely nice to others) but it didn't work so when Arthur got sick no wonder Micah didn't care and wanted to replace him. And yet he gave Arthur one last chance trying to convice him to be on the same team simply by saying "stick with me and you'll live". It's funny as well that Micah is the one who donates most money to the camp besides from Javier and Arthur (obviously), so he wasn't all selfish. And it really justifies his despise of other gang members like Swanson or Uncle who don't really do anything, they don't bring money yet they profit from all the supplies. Just goes to show that Micah wasn't all evil and he had some principle, you're a part of this group, you gotta earn your share, bring money. I wish he played a bigger role in chapter 4 because he's just kinda there but he doesn't do much, he's not a part of any story mission, he's got just the one companion activity, the coach robbery. Micah is much more than "just a villain and hater", great character although I didn't like the fact that he betrayed the gang. It would've been better if he was just a devil on Dutch's shoulder making him more and more crazy/violent.

27:10 " "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called" ...Well. However it goes." On replaying this game for 100% completion, this line in particular stuck out to me. For those unfamiliar, it's from the Beatitudes which can be found in the New Testament of the Bible during the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. This is also where "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness" comes from. The full quote is "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God." Which Micah most certainly is not. This implies two things, either Micah is fully aware of the whole verse, and very self-awarely does not identify himself as a Son of God (As he is doing in this moment, by being a peacemaker in proposing a parley between the O'Driscolls and the Van der Linde Gang). Or that he does not know the entire verse because he is that wicked and sullied. Either explanation could be true and it would lend more credence and depth to Micah's character. Really clever stuff going on in the writing of this game.
@iconicnzz6414Ай бұрын
I think one of the best ways his character is highlighted is by his change, or rather, lack therof. I've seen a lot of a people share the sentiment that the Dutch we meet in Spider Gorge is not the same Dutch that abandons Arthur, or of course the Aurthur we meet likewise is not the same Arthur that dies helping John. But Micah, Micah is the same self-serving, survival-obsessed rat from the moment he first appears in the snowstorm till' the second John shoots him dead.

I love the symbolism of Arthur and Micah’s outfits. Micah wears a white hat and a red shirt. A white hat is often associated with good, and red is often associated with bloodshed and violence. This shows how Micah puts on the exterior of someone who cares about Dutch and the gang, even though deep down he only wants to survive and doesn’t care about others. On the contrary, Arthur wears a black hat, often associated with the bad guy in Westerns, and blue is often associated with life and benevolence. This shows that while on the surface Arthur seems like a ruthless outlaw, deep down he is a caring and selfless person who defends the people he loves. So, while Micah pretends to care even though deep down he is a psychopath with barely any morals, Arthur pretends to be cold and unfeeling even though deep down he is a sensitive man who wants the best for others.

@trdegreeniaАй бұрын
This missable camp monologue probably gives the player the most insight into Micah's nihilistic world view. He's a deeply troubled man. The bread crumbs you get of his backstory tell you that his father was like the man he is now, and his own brother never wants to see him again going as far as to write in a reply letter "Do not claim you know me. If I hear you are within fifty miles of me, I will come and find you and then you'll meet your maker and apologise to him on both our behalves for them things we did. None of this should come to you as news. I was shocked to receive your letter. Do not write to me again." I'd like to think that the Micah we meet at the beginning of the game does actually desire family since it is implied that he reached out to his brother first. Dutch having what seems to be a savior complex probably does see this in him early on, but because of Micah's actions and the man he is (someone who despises vulnerability) he would probably struggle to connect with the others. More over Michah at first does seem to have a level of respect for Arthurs strength, and jealousy towards Arthurs relationships with the rest of the gang especially Dutch.

Im gonna be honnest, I preffer Antagonists like GLaDOS, or the icon of sin. With Micah he just seems like a guy betraying his group for his own good. I hate him, but thats what makes him so good. You like hating this character, you can feel the sane with the other characters I named but they are meant to be intimidating and something to also like. GLaDOS for instance is redeemable, Micah is pure evil. He does anything for his own gain. And tough that doesnt make him like the other antagonists, likeable on some level, its what makes him realistic. True vilians care for only their own gain. I only can name a few characters who do that, those being Jack Horner and Loki. Micah is that character whos realism makes you feel real hate to him. And tough I still think GLaDOS is a better vilian, Rockstar knew what would work best for RDR2'S vilian.

Here are the reasons why I love Micah Bell and I don’t hate him Firstly Micah Bell is a bad man there is no doubt. But out of all the gang members Micah Bell is the only gang member who doesn't have the Robin Hood saviour complex. Micah Bell fully embraces the fact that he is an Outlaw while the gang lie to themselves that they're Robin Hoods just to make themselves feel like they're noble when they are just a pile of scumbags. Micah Bell as cruel as it may sound is ultimately the true harsh reality of the Wild West and the personification of it. While Arthur is the romanticised version of the Wild West, I find it strange how people will want to be coddled with Arthur but can stand Micah who is the true Outlaw. Micah isn't even any different to the gang as at the end of the day they are all a bunch of murders. Yeah they may be more tamer than Micah but this doesn't mean they don't have skeletons in their closets. A lot of people tend to complain about how Micah Bell is a racist. This a fact Micah Bell is racist but more or less he is racist to be spiteful in my eyes. Plus this shouldn't be a suprise the game is set in 1899 where racism would be vibrant. Bill a camp member is quite racist towards Lenny the African American with his racial undertones with 'boy'. Plus Micah's racism isn't as bad as the rest other villains in the game such as Leviticus Cornwall and Colonels Favours, those racist colonisers are men want to expel Rains Falls people from the Reservation area to mine for gold, plus Favours even mocks Rains Falls chief name. A lot of people also bring up the fact that Micah tends to hit on woman and this is true. But I don't think he actually means to be spiteful 100% everyday. For instance in a camp encounter he will nervously ask out Mary-Beth to a dance. Of course tho Mary Rejected him.

the gang was simply manipulated by Dutch into thinking they're not as bad as they actually are

To be clear. Your videos are awesome. But you can absolutely and should judge people on their actions when they are proven to be evil over and over. Micah isnt smarter than the rest of the gang. It actually isnt logical to be solely focused on self preservation. Like you can understand the mindset sure but it isnt actually a good way of living. You know?

He's over hated simply because ppl love Arthur and can't forgive him Arthur. Micah isn't even the worst person in the game. He's not even straight up evil, he's just twisted and broken. One of the best characters, smart, not a coward,and the closest to the real outlaw in the game.

Which is worse, Micah or Ralphie in the Sopranos?
@smileyfawler8454Ай бұрын
I'm forever comparing those two. Both great villains. But Ralphie is far worse.
