I cried during the episode "The Show", when Bluey and Bingo are putting on a play for their parents about when Chilli was pregnant with Bluey, and they use a balloon to stand in for the pregnant belly. The kids get a little too excited, and the balloon pops, causing Bandit and Chilli to wordlessly hold hands. A very subtle, heartbreaking way of addressing miscarriages.

bro, the ending of flat pack made me drown. the end where bingo is an “adult” and moves out and old bluey doesn’t know what to do next is just so sad to me. and then when she went to the stairs to meet her parents and they were in a metaphorical heaven watching bingo is the thing that sent me. the concept of aging and growing up just never refuses to make me sad as it will happen one day. i’m just glad to see it represented.

Just goes to show that this show isn't just for preschoolers, and tackles mature themes. One of my favourite episodes is when Chilli's sister Brandy visits, and it's gently implied that the reason Brandy became estranged from her family is because of her inability to have children of her own.

I cried on Fairies when Bingo is excited to show something she made for Bandit who is busy at the moment and then kinda snaps at her. And then cried even harder at the end when he apologized to her for hurting her feelings. As a child, I was always ignored by my parents and whenever they hurt my feelings they immediately dismissed and invalidated what I was feeling so seeing a healthy family deal with these issues really got me.

Handstand is my absolute favorite Bluey episode. Not only is the bingo nana story amazing, but the background animation is so entertaining, you can watch it ten times and notice different things each time. Go back and watch for these: the pug coming into the kitchen and grabbing frosting off the counter, aunt trixie failing over and over again to blow up a balloon, stripe trying and failing to warm up the pies, the three boys throwing a dart into the kitchen, and then my favorite: Winton trying to build a castle made of blocks, but then missy’s car keeps knocking it over, so he goes in the other room and pouts until he tries again , same thing happens, he tries again, but this time the car is blocked by one of the three boys looking for his dart(after it flew into the fridge) and he gets to finish his castle, earning attention from like everyone there. Idk they might be dumb things to notice but I had a lot of fun gathering everything that was happening

The episodes that get strong emotions from me is Space, The army episode, and Butterflies. Space (the one with MacKenzie) and Butterflies bring me back to the time when I was younger and would either feel or be left behind a lot or abandoned for being different or seen as a nuisance and I just really remember that feeling. The army episode where we meet Russell also just made me feel seen (as I've said 3 times in this comment section now lol) as someone with ADHD I just remember wondering what was wrong with me and when his younger sibling asked "Why can't you just behave" I really remembered everyone asking this and while now I understand it was my ADHD and impulses I still felt good to see Russell being embraced and not being judged for being the way he is.

The incredible level of understanding Bluey in which conveyed things like ADHD and undressed psychological issues has blown me away. I am near certain that the show consulted heavily with child psychologies during the writing and production of these episodes. Those episodes you mentioned are so phenomenal because they managed to subtlety convey the issue, be emotional, and tell a great story all at the same time. They are so good that I can imagine a therapist or councilor showing that episode to kids or parents to teach them about these issues.

Okay, this makes me feel so much better about choosing to watch Bluey in the mornings before school 😂 it does have an actually good plot and lessons to learn that hits differently than most kid shows. @SailorMya
@SailorMya Жыл бұрын
Right! Going from a show like Peppa Pig where they "talk down" to their audience while constantly repeating what they are doing makes Bluey look far more advanced. They understand that: 1. Parents watch with their kids even if passively. 2. Kids are NOT dumb and can understand bigger issues at an age appropriate level (Without repeating over and over what the "moral" is) 3. That, if done right Animation can span generations. When Bluey first came out I would passively watch it with my kids while doing something else. I figured it was "just another kid show" till I FULLY watched the episode "sticky gecko" and from there I was hooked. Seeing an episode focused on the mom's struggle to get the kids out the door was the eye opener for me that this show pulls from the ordinary in our lives and makes it entertaining even for kids! Best "slice of life" I have seen in awhile!

Hey, don't act like the only two shows in the world are Peppa Pig and Bluey tho. I love that you chose Bluey. I'm someone who loves kids shows, and I don't hate Peppa Pig, but I do find it kind of stupid at times. If you want good kids shows besides Bluey, I also suggest "Toddworld", "Peep and the Big Wide World", "Lily's Driftwood Bay", and "Scaredy Squirrel". Those are also really good kids shows. Bluey's certainly unique from today's kids shows tho (the ones I named were older)
@jocelynecupcake
@jocelynecupcake Жыл бұрын
@@SailorMya Yeah, Bluey's more for all ages but remember that Peppa Pig is more for 2 and 3 year olds, who often are just starting to understand. Like, 2 years old is just starting to understand stories at that age. Bluey's more advanced for like 4 and older. Like, you need shows for babies and toddlers too. Also I'm someone who really loves kids shows so I never see anything as "Just another kids show", I actually take notice of how different shows are and what age group they're for, maybe because I want to make children's books and children's cartoons of my own. Bluey definitely inspires me, along with many others.
@SailorMya
@SailorMya Жыл бұрын
@@jocelynecupcake Age demographic really has nothing to do with it as my own 2 year old loves it and she has a speech delay that bluey has helped with.... We thought the repetitiveness of Peppa would help when she had screen time (1 hour like her siblings) but she quickly lost interest where with bluey she was captivated and is even repeating phrases she hears. Children books and toddler shows are quite different where books have to stay at a basic reading level for them to follow along I don't feel cartoons for tots needs to 100% follow that standard. There are TONS of toddler shows that talk to the kids with basic language but Peppa just repeats over and over that it honestly feels like they are trying to beat the words into their little heads. (Plus, after actually watching Peppa with her I found it actually "dumb" and not in the "for toddler way"...)

There’s been a lot of discourse, particularly on Tik Tok, about adults who love Bluey being cringey, or worse, p3d0s, and, while I’ve only seen a couple episodes of it, I feel like writing Bluey off as “just a show for babies” or “just a show for kids” really diminishes it. This is a show that clearly is able to tackle mature themes in ways that don’t go over the kids’ heads, but also doesn’t talk down to them.

“Rug Island” is definitely my favorite episode and it was the first one to make me cry. As a high schooler, I’m terrified of growing up and I have a tendency to rewatch shows from my childhood for nostalgia but also to see if they hold up, and often they don’t. I found Bluey through babysitting and got absolutely hooked… though I was embarrassed about it at first, seeing as I don’t have the excuse of younger siblings or kids. Rug Island was one of the first episodes I saw, and because of its themes around growing up I felt so seen. Of course that ending gets me every time

It’s not particularly hard to make me tear up, especially for Bluey, but it almost never goes to full on crying, but there is a scene in “Army” that makes me bawl like an infant. Jack’s dad keeps telling him to sit still in the back of the car but Jack keeps forgetting and getting distracted. He realizes he forgot his hat, and the little sibling tattles on him for still not sitting still, and then asks him “Why can’t you do as you’re told?!” and all Jack can say is “I don’t know.” I remember watching that scene for the first time and just breaking down into tears in the middle of my bedroom, sobbing into my hands and just saying “Finally, someone gets it. I never meant to be ‘bad’. I was trying so hard.”

"Copycat" is the most heartbreaking one for me for sure. It's the episode with the budgie. I think a lot of the other ones make me emotional (which can be happy or bittersweet tears) but Copycat is heartbreaking by definition. It was so real even for Bluey standards, that the budgie Bluey tries to save doesn't make it. And even when she's playing pretend vet after with her mom, she asks that the budgie dies in their pretend play too, so she can process her grief and let it go and I cry every time 😭😭
@theatregarbage

also when she's playing pretend, she repeats the day as it happens and copies what Bandit says, "Toughen up, Bandit!" and "There's nothing we can do now, it's out of our hands," and it shows how children will follow/copy so its so important for parents to teach by example. Bluey is able to process grief because of Bandit and it makes me think how misguided some children can feel when their parents aren't there to be good examples and aaaaaaaa

You didn't get this far since it's in the second half of season 3, but "Space" is one of the saddest yet greatest episodes -in the series- of ANY show that I've ever seen in my life. It is spectacular, phenomenal, unfathomable, and even more synonyms for incredible that I can't go on listing forever. The episode is also exceedingly complex, it's the kind of thing you need to watch twice to fully understand but once you do finally understand it it hits you like a truck (a truck filled with the feels and high quality story telling).

I'm in my 20s and I started watching this show bc of my little sister but THE TEARS I have cried are way too many to count. The episode that hit me the most was Grandad. Obviously Chili is worried about grandpa growing old and doesn't want to lose him, that's why she acts a bit overprotective, meanwhile he just wants to live it as much a possible. Then the heartbreak scene (so brief but perfect) was seeing Chili sitting at the edge of the lake with him, hugging, and slowly showing a younger version of herself, THAT BROKE ME ! For context, my mom didn't have a childhood in which grandpa played with his children bc he was away working 24/7 so she treasures the few moments she had with him. Before he passed away, he played with the young grandchildren despite having respiratory problems bc he wanted to the memories he couldn't have with his own children :(

this show is just amazing especially as an Australian myself their ability to tell some meaningful stories and lessons it such a way that can be understood by children and enjoyed by everyone just has me in complete awe. plus the fact it perfectly encapsulates so much of the Australian childhood experiences, something which i've never really had bc all our shows are like Americanised or just kinda shit, it just has my whole heart tbh.

I bawled during "Army" It's about a Jack Russel Named Jack Russel, and he has ADHD just like me. There's never enough ADHD representation. There's so many instances where people judged him especially his brother. Then he learns that even though he has trouble with listening and paying attention sometimes he can do it and his new friend helps him. We get quite a bit of judgement from teachers and other peers so having the teacher be really accepting was just so wholesome. I would also like to mention I have a Jack Russel.

"Baby Race" is a favourite, both because my spouse and I have been in both positions of Chilli/Bandit (new parents) and then Bella (Coco's mum), my wife being the more "experienced hand" in her mother's group. What I especially love about the episode though is when Bella says "You're doing great" she's shown from Chilli's point of view. Bella is looking directly at the "camera" - that is, she's talking to the audience. She's saying "you're doing great to all the parents who are watching the show with their kids. A brilliant creative decision.

this top 10 list is so spot on !! but somewhere in my list would definitely include barky boats and dance mode. With barky boats, there’s something so touching about the themes of growing up and the fear/uncertainty that comes with it. Dance mode is very similar to yoga ball because of their topics about children communicating healthy boundaries with parents, it’s just so important and watching bingo use her “big girl bark” more often makes me so emotional !

I think the Curry Quest is more about Fly in Fly Out families which is common here in Australia, rather than military families, where one parent leaves for an amount of time for work - it always hits close to home for us

The timing for this video is really interesting since I've been watching some clips and episodes of Bluey for the past few days. It seems like such a really sweet show that can speak for both kids and the parents watching it. The short episode run time also makes it relatively easy to binge through episodes. The music is really nice and I appreciate the voice acting, especially for Bluey and Bingo. I'd be interested in more videos covering the series if you want to talk more about your favorite episodes or other topics.

I absolutely love “army” because it reminded me a lot of being a kid. I really appreciated that the parent was so nice and patient with Jack during the drive to his new school and I think Jack is good and I’m so happy he was able to feel like he was good at something

Wish I had bluey as a kid, love how it’s an Australian based studio making it. I also especially love how it’s a family where the kids are two girls. It’s a show that does a great job at hiding other story’s, messages, lessons and humour for the parents and older people watching. When my little cousins put it on tv I don’t mind watching with them.

Two episodes you didn't mention that never fail to get an emotional rise out of me are "Army" and "Sleepytime". Army gets to me because I, like Jack, am neurodivergent and seeing how welcoming and accepting Calypso and Rusty are is really moving to see. I remember how many recesses I spent alone because other kids thought I was weird, and I remember how lonely that could be. As for Sleepytime I don't even know where to begin. The visuals, the music, the love they clearly demonstrate for each other, the simple beauty of a family sleeping. It just gets me every time 🥹 (I'm honestly getting choked up just thinking about it)

I cried with laughter during the doctor one where Bluey, Bingo and Bandit were playing doctors and there was a mouse inside Bandit. Bluey was like "there's nothing we can do" then Bingo was like "let's put a cat inside him to chase the mouse out" but then the cat got stuck I think so they had to put a dog inside him to try and get the cat out. Also any episode with unihorse is hilarious

Omg curry quest made me SOB! As a military kid, the not knowing they are going away and then trying to see everything As an adventure. I also felt alone with my experience as my mum is emotionally unavailable and maintained the keep it together, suck it up and keep moving. I remember once he came home for Christmas and then had to go back a couple hours later. He was away for about 5 weeks which was short compared to other times. So yeah that episode made me SOB- but I also resonated with the message of the episode about keep moving forward and adventuring- which is what I always did

Your choices are really good, but I think the epsiode called onesies also would be a really good one to pick. Brandy's fertility problems and her being jealous of Chili who has kids and Brandy not wanting to see her for many years was just so sad... No, I'm not crying, you are... :( Also Flat pack, where we can see Bluey playing as a mother looking at her children growing up and then her death bring a tear to my eye

i totally agree! i love that episode, however, i think the creator didn’t mention the episode because Disney+ doesn’t include the episode of the fact that it heavily references infertility and Disney doesn’t like it. i really hope Onesies gets the green light and i hope it gets put back !

There’s an episode that isn’t on Disney plus yet (I live in Australia), it’s called “onesies”, and I won’t spoil too much for you or anyone who hasn’t watched it yet, but basically bluey and bingos aunt comes over, and she’s chilli’s sister names brandy, and the episode implies that brandy probably can’t have kids but really wants some, and it works so perfectly because brandy brought onesies for the girls, and bluey wants bingos, but she can’t have it. The line that really gets me is: “bluey: “why can’t she just have the ring she wants?” Chilli: “because it’s not meant to be””. It works perfectly because bluey having bingos onesie isn’t meant to be, as well as what brandy wants. That episode gets me every time!

"sticky gecko" didn't make me cry but it is the first episode I truly watched because Chilli's frustration on getting the kids out the door on time is SUPER relatable! It is funny, as an American, we have this "cartoon/animation is for kids" even "adult animation" yet here comes a show that IS for kids and we are seeing adults love it just as much! It is like they don't realize that, while not their target demographic, adults watch shows with kids (even in the background) and having a show not talk down and open real conversations between kids and adults is magical! I KNOW the episode "onesie" is going to make me cry but it hasn't come over yet!

"Early Baby" hits me hard. I know it isn't a particularly emotional episode but I connect with it so much. I loved seeing the innocent child perspective of someone having a premature baby and it's just so pure and adorable how they go about it. My baby was premature and it was such a hard time to go though but looking back at it with blueys perspective thinking that he was in a "fish tank with reading lights" makes me giggle with tears 😂.

On the bluey soundtrack u can actually find the rain instrumental but as a song called rain (boldly in the pretend). The song is about growing up and childhood fun as the narrator of the song starts off as a kid racing paper boats in the rain to then running from the rain and finding other things to love to finally them having kids and seeing them race paper boats like she once did and joining them. I always remember the lyrics when watching the episode and it always makes me cry 😭😭
