To slightly correct what Gabriella told Brink. You don’t sellout by doing something you love for money. It’s when you stop loving it, or don’t believe in what you’re doing anymore, but you keep doing it anyway for the money. That’s when you become a sellout. Doing what you love for a living isn’t just the American dream. It’s everybody’s dream.

Correct it’s crazy how so many adults who watch this movie miss that message when it is exactly what is said in the movie. Don’t let things define you do them because you enjoy

Even as a kid at 9 or 10, I always thought Brink's dad was a naysayer and uptight, needed to lighten about his son's passion for skating. Like when was the last time he was so passionate about something that he didn't care what people thought about it? Now as an adult, I can see where dad is coming from and he means well. He wants what's best for his kids and what dad wouldn't? But still, I'm glad he came around in the end.

I had Barbie rollerblades, but I couldn’t do it. One day I was playing around with them on the garage floor. I was sitting on the ground of course. Rolled my feet around a bit, took them off and kept playing with my hands. Just checking em out, flicking the wheels. Then a bee, which must’ve been conjured or teleported bc it wasn’t there before, stung me in the armpit. I just started wailing, thankful the skates were off already. I was 5, and I’m pretty sure I never touched those skates again

I remember being like 9 or 10 years old sitting on the living room floor watching this movie on Disney and the part where brink talks about doing the sponsored skating thing at dinner and when the dad freaks out my dad says mockingly “ya you can get a job. As long as it’s something you hate”. lol. I remember rolling my eyes and thinking to myself “he doesn’t get it”. Haha. Now that I’m a dad I know what he was saying. Went right over my head then. lol.

Loved your cup stacking video, and as someone who actually does aggressive skating, thought I could help out with a few questions and clear a couple of things up. 1. Did skateboarders hate rollerbladers? Yes, and this movie showed a very sugar coated version of that, more on that later. 2. Does jumping on a ramp and landing give you more speed? No, you normally lose some speed. 3. Do you have to grab when you jump? Grabbing in the air does help control your body in mid air, but downhill racing competitions aren't a real thing so the rules are whatever the script writers say. Now to clear up a couple things, while aggressive rollerblading did fall off massively in the mid to late 00's, it's not exactly accurate to say it flopped. Aggressive rollerblading was massive in the mid to late 90s. In fact, it was one of, if not the most heavily promoted sports in the first two years of the X Games, and pro competitions outside of the X Games were played on ESPN and Fox sports pretty commonly. Skateboarding as an industry and culture felt slighted because they had 20 years of history but were getting put behind a brand new sport. This animosity and rollerblading's recreational roots lead to a homophobic joke amongst skateboarding culture that eventually permeated into popular culture and thus tanked aggressive inline. Rollerblading content creater Tom Moyse made a really good video on this subject that you can check out here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpDHaZquZr-FgrMsi=0URueXPltfUriQo0

I just want Jordy to know just how much this video changed me. I’ve been going through a very dark time in my life. Working through a lot of childhood trauma. This is the first time I’ve been recommended a Jordy McNeill so I’m genuine when I say that this video shook me on a deep level. Her analysis of this movie is just perfect! Every question, every reaction, and every remark she makes was my reaction. I have loved the movie Brink since seeing it in 1997 when I was 9-10. This movie, along with the Mighty Ducks/Sandlot/Rookie of the Year, was my life. I wanted to BE Andy “Brink” Brinker! Watching her call out Brink on his bullshit, simping for Pete, the sexual tension between Zander and Brink! I had never felt so seen before. It was truly one of the most cathartic feeling. I just wanted her, and anyone else who needs to hear this, to know that someone out there in the abyss sees you. You are valid and allowed to be your true authentic self.

In answer to your question: I would think that holding your skates would probably help you be a bit more stable in the air and land a bit faster. Think of it this way: why does doing a cannonball into a pool make a bigger splash than a normal jump? Because bringing your legs behind you increases the velocity of your drop. I would guess the same laws of physics apply in this scenario. Also, yes, it looks cooler.
