As a NYer, you guys were spot on with your assessment. 1) A NYC bagel with lox and cream cheese is an absolutely transformative experience. 2) Katz's pastrami is a splurge but worth the price 3) Places like Nom Wah are overpriced hype (you're really just paying for the ambience of the street and feeling like you're on a movie set). 4) You were also right on with Magnolia's pudding - good, but totally overpriced. 5) Same with the cheesecake being overpriced and way too small! 6) dollar pizza is hit or miss but that one looked pretty bad. 7) As for Halal, that's hit or miss too, but every one ALWAYS has the red sauce that's unbearably hot! Everyone's made that mistake once of thinking it might be like regular hot sauce but just a single drop will ruin your whole meal. Great video, you've got yourself a new subscriber and fan!
@PurtyPurple

The moment I saw them hold up that dollar pizza and it was stiff like cardboard I knew it would be trash XD Edit: I agree completely with your assessments. I find the main problem with food here is usually not that it's bad, just bad value for the price.

Instead of Nom Wah, you might have to settle for Joe's Shanghai or go to Brooklyn or Queens... It's odd but there are some decent places in SI, I think? And if you have the time, I guess Edison over in NJ might work.

Now that's some awesome food! The bagel with the lox and stuff is classic. Pastrami on rye was one of my dad's favorites. I'm in Chicago and the best memory with my folks was waking up early on Sunday morning and going with them to the butcher, bakery and deli on Devon Ave. What a special time that was. Loved the video, 😊

Queens, corner of 71st in Queens if the Pizza place is still there, get slice of cheese pizza and ask them to throw it in the oven before you have it. 2. you guys can take the subway to Coney Island, get the Nathan's hotdog and corn on the cob there, it's really good. It is estimated that around 800 languages are spoken in the city, so NYC is bound to have something for everyone. And when in doubt, have a pickle. Not eating a pickle is a crime against society Alessio really showed his inner French purist with this one by being appalled by something that's croissant-like that isn't in the shape of a croissant.

The deep green pickles are called half-sour pickles. They have a lower acidity.If you leave it long enough in its brine, the green color fades and the acidity increases. At Breads Bakery you missed their Baguette. It won a contest sponsored by the NY French Consulate. A jury of French Boulangers and Pâtissiers named it the best in NYC. It's now the official baguette for the Consulate, through 2022 year end.

Agreed. If you’re going to go to a dim sum place, get egg rolls and pan fried/veggie dumplings then you’re in the wrong place. Dim sum is Shrimp Har Gow, Pork Xiu Mai, Shrimp or beef rice paper rolls, turnip pan fried cake… otherwise, go to a dumpling place for those.

If you cross the river into NJ there is a classic North Jersey deli sandwich you should try, the Sloppy Joe (has nothing to do with ground beef.) It's a double-decker sandwich on Rye bread with meat (classic choices would be ham, roast beef, or turkey. Corned Beef or Pastrami is good too.), swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Thousand Island/Russian dressing.

Katz's pastrami is a religious experience. So tender, you don't need teeth. They use the best cut to make their pastrami.

@4:20 Katz delicatessen is the best. Omg how didn't I tell you about that? My grandfather's first job as a newly arrived immigrant in the 60s was at Katz. Great place too. The workers there are so cool and are locals, so they know much about the area. The pastrami sandwiches there are awesome

I don't know if they're still around, but many years ago when I was a kid in NY, you used to be able to buy fresh, hot, soft pretzels at stands, a bit like hot dogs. I used to love those things!
