The chef at Pasta Eater clearly LOVES his job. It's a tough industry, especially in NYC, so to have someone speak so highly of the owner says a lot about the quality of his restaurants.

I have lived in Metro NY (not the city proper) my whole life, and the fact they are experiencing things like Arthur Ave and the Italian culture in NY is second to none outside of Italy.

So many Italians moved to and continue to move to the NJ, NYC, CT, RI region (basically the historical Italian Mob hotspots) and that has given us very quality Italian restaurants and bakeries. The culture is different from almost anywhere else in the US. We are spoiled enough that I tend to skip Italian food outside this region.

I moved to Hoboken from NYC and I have to admit, Hoboken has better real nyc style pizza than nyc. Hard to get a bad slice in Hoboken unlike NYC, where you get a 50/50 chance of good pizza.

I sure hope it was worth it for Rolf’s to get that table emptied and you two on your feet. Because now over 300,000 people know which restaurant to AVOID in New York City for rude service and average food!

It's a crying shame. I lived just a short walk to Rolf's, and I really enjoyed the place. Their sauerbraten was excellent. They used to have free sandwiches at the bar during the afternoon--it was a friendly, tasty restaurant. That was 40 years ago, and it has obviously deteriorated.

In terms of the food, I don't know if it's stereotypical of me to say, but I think they ordered Wienerschnitzel and Spaetzle... which are not exactly flavor bombs if you were to compare it to something like, say, Italian food. They're more to fill you up, in my experience. You need the Jäger sauce for an oomph... and even then, it's not a bright or punchy flavor profile.

I live in NYC (8 years originally born in FL)-love seeing the city in your eyes. Pasta Eater and Eataly are great choices if you want authentic Italian. I am not Italian or Italian American (I am PR, Polish, French and Swiss German third generation) but I love Italian food, especially since I have visited Italy. I have had trouble finding authentic Italian food in NYC when I am not in the mood for Italian American but Pasta Eater and Eataly have become favorites for me now that I live here. I love that market in Eataly too-so many great items even though it is expensive.

Jessi: pretends to pour balsamic Alessio: And I took that personally- Jessi: *We do a little trolling, it's called we do a little trolling* Everybody gangsta till Alessio says it's the best pasta. Acqua Panna's name comes from Villa Panna, a villa located by Radda in Chianti in the Province of Siena. The water there is so fresh, it was a preferred source by the famous Medici family. The villa's actually on the hunting reserve that the Medicis once used. So you know it's good stuff!

Trieste? That's a unique part of Italy! Interesting fact, it was at one point in time an independent territory as a result of a peace treaty with Italy between 1947 and 1954 as the Free Territory of Trieste. Zone A (the area surrounding the port; now part of Italy) was administered by British and American forces while Zone B was administered by the Soviet-supported Yugoslav People's Army. Each zone had its own governor. Trieste wasn't a truly independent state as its governors had to be approved by the occupying powers. Didn't help that the Soviets kept rejecting governor nominations, as well as the political split between Stalin and Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito (who wanted the entirety of Trieste). It was eventually dissolved in 1954 through the London Memorandum and split between Italy and Yugoslavia (which Zone B was given to Slovenia and Croatia respectively), and was confirmed as dissolved in 1975 through the Treaty of Osimo between Italy and Yugoslavia.

I would only pay for the part I ate. When they take the plate away, they are taking food that you ordered and expected to eat. If not there, then at home. If they take it and put it in a box for you that’s one thing. If they throw it away they should only charge you for half. I would definitely complain, loudly!! Everything looks amazing! What is the pasta dish that they are mixing up in a bowl of some kind, it looks like cheese(?). I can only imagine how delicious the food is, I’m so jealous!😊♥️🙏🏻

Fun fact about the Shirley Temple: Shirley didn't actually like it! She said in an interview in 1986, "The saccharine sweet, icky drink? Yes, well...those were created in the probably middle 1930s by the Brown Derby Restaurant in Hollywood and I had nothing to do with it. But, all over the world, I am served that. People think it's funny. I hate them. Too sweet!" She even brought a lawsuit to prevent a bottled version of it from being sold with her name!

Oh my gosh I'm so sad hearing your experience at Rolf's! I spent a weekend with my Godmother in NYC when I was a teen, which was too long ago. She took me to Time Square for matinee tickets to Cats on Broadway and then to Rolf's for dinner. I had the schnitzel and spaetzle as well, It was a new food and I thought very tasty. Of course the best part was the decorations!!! I'm glad that at least hasn't changed! My maiden name is Natale so of course Christmas is my favorite time of year!! I'd decorate my whole house like Rolf's if I could LOL Definitely have to check out Pasta Eater!!! That cheese wheel pasta looks amazing! ❤

As a German I was really surprised when I saw the German restaurant, but then I was just shocked. Yes, we love Christmas and we have a lot of decorations everywhere, but the service and the noises... I have never seen such a noisy restaurant here. And it's really normal to just sit and talk for hours with drinks only. Also the food.... Yes, we eat Schnitzel and yes, sometimes with beans. But a traditional dish would be with Bratkartoffeln (sliced potatoes with ham and onion from the pan) or just French fries. Also you never eat Spätzle without sauce! Not like that. It is common to eat them with meat, but meat comes in the form of Gulasch (meat soup?) or Geschnetzeltes (thin strips of meat in souce). And personally I've never even thought about mashed potatoes next to a Schnitzel... I'm glad you tried a German restaurant, but this one isn't really German from what I've seen. Which is really sad. I recommend you to visit German on Christmas season and eat at a Christmas market :)

Hey guys. I just saw an apt in Brooklyn (I know, not Manhattan) with 2bed 2 bath, doorman, garage parking, laundry in apt, gym, nice kitchen with good appliances, bright with windows, lots of storage in rent controlled building for $3,800!!!!!!! Same building had a larger 2 bed 2 bath(900 sq ft!) for $ 4200 & large 3 bed 2 bath currently being updated for $5100!!!!! Close to the subway.....it's at lease closer than Nashville!!

I love watching you guys eat and mostly enjoy in NY. I had a date at Rolf’s in 1979. It was amazing. (The date, but also the food and service.)

So many Americans do not love theese overly sweet deserts. I think we don't change them out of habit. I know myself and my children scrape off the most of the frosting from cakes or cupcakes if it is the buttercream. It is terribly sweet. We do enjoy whippy frosting if ya know what that is.

I'm amazed about the rude service!! Better to sit have a drink and take food to go!! You can't enjoy food in an hour. I am from NY originally and never experienced anything like that!👎👎 Growing up in NY, and not living there anymore, people think that I'm to picky about the taste of food. Sorry, but when you grow up eating the best authentic flavors nothing compares!! Thank God, I was able to learn to cook from true Italians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Germans, and Europeans! That is what NY can do for you. Every family is willing to share there knowledge!! That is why I am the one always cooking at 65 yrs old. I don't really have recipes. It's always to taste. My son and daughter in law, now want to learn my recipes. They have to be there when I cook, take notes and try from there.

The Austrians actually got Wiener Schnitzel from Milano. The Austrians/Habsburgs control parts of Italy at different points.

There was a huge Italian inmigration early XX century here in Argentina 💁🏻‍♀️ maybe that's why we call it "milanesa" in stead of "schnitzel", they are made out of meat, mainly, but it can also be made with chicken or, rarely, with pork. I happen to have 0 Italian blood in my heritage but I'm a huge fan of their cooking style and they have a heavy influence on Argentine culinary culture.

@@luzpueblalara4128 yes Argentina has a lot of people of Italian descent. We had neighbors in suburban New York with the father an Italian from Argentina and there was Gabriella Sabatini (an important tennis pro) but of course now we have Pope Francis - the first pope from the Americas.

You don’t eat Spätzle on your own. You eat them with gravy, melted swiss cheese or fried onions. That’s why they tasted like nothing.

I don't go no where. That has to be my favorite line. 😂 wow some beautiful places but I would have definitely given a zero for service at that one place for rushing. When you pay that much you need to let your customers enjoy it. Great video, definitely wanted to try some of that pasta and tiramisu dessert. 🥰
