Ok guys, so I had a visit from my German friend Sebastien, who is a federal state champion. We decided to make a video on the importance of the hand defence o bl cks and catches (Slips will be a standalone video in pt 2).
We covered the 3 ranges (out of range, at range and close range), the relevant modes of defence that you can expect to use with your hands and some counters that are available to you also.

I prefer to block straight up with my elbows with the lead hand and then step backwards to secure safety.

Seeing and dodging is very difficult for me. he threw a jab at me, then suddenly moved and threw a one-two at me. There was also when I unknowingly catched one-two with my hand and i hit a counter jab. 😎

The main things is you control the hand and enable opportunities for you to counter, but either is ok!
