I first heard it playing the HD collection, and all I could think was WOW! Pure Metal Gear at its best, I put MG2 above V and 4 even with its 8 bit limitations. It would have blown people away if it had released in the west. Kind of think SEGA missed a trick by not porting this version to the Mega drive. Would have given Super Metroid a run for its money

@@thecarrotmonster8827 would've been a cool alternative history. Except the whole point of the game was to make up for the terrible port and sequel on the NES. Kojima probably would veto it unless he was able to direct, and then he would probably request to put it on Sega/Mega CD like snatcher.

I feel like Metal Gear has always been a sort of iterative process, with especially in the first 4 games, repeats of different ideas until the idea could be fully realized. Like if you really look at it, MG, MG2, MGS, and MGS2, were essentially the same game, lots of events that mirrored each other from one game to the next, but iterated on and perfected each time, with MGS2 taking this idea and going super meta with it, almost bringing this idea into the story itself, like Raiden was just pantomiming those previous iterations. In a way he was sorta realizing their culmination, from a mechanical perspective. But even just from a gameplay perspective, MG2 feels almost as much like a 2D version of MGS as MGS: Ghost Babel did, just in the feel of the gameplay, the way crawling and hiding works, and how the boss fights are structured, you really just feel echos of MGS. The first 3 games especially feel like an image slowly coming into focus, with MGS2 putting that image in a nice frame. Kojima sorta did this again with Portable Ops, Peacewalker, and TPP. But instead of it being the Tactical Espionage Action Formula, it was more the Tactical Espionage Operations formula, where it brings in battlefield logistics and the sense of running a much larger scale operation from the perspective of a commander. Each game felt like it tried to build on this idea, until TPP was technologically on the level that it could fully realize the idea.

The first two Metal Gear games are way ahead of their time. I first experienced it with Ghost Babel as a kid and then went back and played the others through emulation years later. It was crazy how much you could do and how deep the story and mechanics were in a time where most games basically only allowed you to run and jump. It blew my mind just as much as Metal Gear Solid did when it first released. I can’t imagine the kind of impression the old games would have left on me if I had played them at release instead of 10+ years later.

Thank you so much for these videos about the first two Metal Gear and the works behind them! I started playing this saga 7 years ago when a friend of mine discovered that I never played a Metal Gear game before. He lent me everything from consoles to games :) He made me start from the very first one on MSX2 and I enjoyed the whole saga a lot. More than I thought I would! (despite the retcons, plot holes, etc..) Every time I see videos about the Metal Gear saga, they always neglect the first two games or barely speak about them, but they are equally important and lay the foundations to all the other games and to the whole story as well.

@ForceWave-1139
@ForceWave-1139 3 жыл бұрын
Big Boss hasn’t been a straightforward character since MG2. His goal was to create a nation where soldiers wouldn’t be used and abused by their governments, which leads him to desire a world plunged into perpetual warfare. The prequels don’t really change this; they just show how Big Boss arrived at those conclusions. The Patriots’ global control would’ve been in the way of his objective of global chaos, hence why he opposed them.
@Alex_Logan22
@Alex_Logan22 3 жыл бұрын
@@ForceWave-1139 Uh, except that literally was never the motivating factor behind Outer Heaven or their conflict with Zero/Patriots. At least not in the games. Also, the initial war mongering Big Boss was definitely 2 dimensional/straightforward, but in Peace Walker he's actively opposed/against being put in that position, even in TPP when craving revenge, it never dictated his decisions. He's always against him or his army being a part of unnecessary war. He never instigates any conflicts, only responds to them. If we are to take the events of MG2 verbatim as a game taking place after Peace Walker/MGSV, than he would have to be putting on an act.

Holly White might just be the most badass female character in franchise history (apart from The Boss of course). You bust her out, she says 'cheers bud, I got stuff to do'. Then she goes and does it, you go through your whole mission, and she's gone and beaten every challenge she herself faces just as quickly as you. No frustrating escort mission stuff with Holly like with Meryl or Emma. That's with Gustava and Dr Madnar. She just gives you a card, and goes on about her work without asking for or needing your help.

@@PirateCat822 Kiefer never voiced big boss. ishmael was just a hallucination and ground zeroes was a VR mission being experienced by venom. any time you hear big boss speak in MGSV, it is through the perception of Venom and his own voice is what he hears.

Thanks for the Manual. I been looking for it recently. If you need to know there old manuals are there is a page on archive. Could you upload the English PDF there for preservation or may I?

The HD edition of the xbox 360 ports for metal gear were on game pass a couple years back. I hadn't yet played the OG metal gear games, so I was very glad I got to them before it was removed. I've since dug out my ps3 to play them again.

So Konami tried to separate Kojima from Metal Gear as early as right after the first game! Makes too much sense.

I played it. I got the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 as part of the bonus disc for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Good game, and much of what we see in the original Metal Gear Solid actually came from this game.

I'm that guy looking for "Blank You Haven't Blank" titles and pointing that yes, I did blank that blank. I made sure not to touch Metal Gear Solid before I blanked both of the MSX Metal Gears.

I'm pretty sure we've all played this if anyone has a PS2 or PS3 on PS2 you would have to have Metal Gear Solid 3 substance on PS3 you would have to have the Metal Gear Solid collection which has Metal Gear Solid 3 substance and when you play this on both of them you're playing the original MSX version of the game

As an MSX owner and former Konami fanboy, I liked to think that Snake was the Green Beret from Green Beret/Rush n'Attack.
