I'm not very experienced with solvers but often some combos defend quite unfrequently so we might have like 20% of the K9s we had initially and defend 100% of those 20%

How is this different than the rangebuilder feature that GTOWizard has had for like 6 months? Isnt it basically the same thing?

I wasn't aware of their rangebuilder, but the concept seems similar. The main differences seem to be the interfaces, you can analyze hands you've played with GTOx and their app allows the user to add each combo by weight . We considered adding frequencies, but thought it would be too difficult/cumbersome so our focus is more on general combo selection.

I play professionally and you seem more knowledgeable than me on this stuff for some reason. I have a question. Why does range construction matter if you have a solid grasp of GTO? Personally I do range construction, because I am old school but I can't bridge the gap between the fundamentals I learned decades ago and GTO. It seems I have to choose between, one or the other

You don't need to choose between one or the other. The fundamentals you've learned from experience are great use for you to exploit your opponents. Playing close to gto lines will help you become unexploitable. You should try to learn and play the GTO lines when you are playing against an opponent you don't have any exploits on yet or that seem to be playing close to gto themselves. You should use your experience with fundamentals and reads when you are playing weaker opponents and when you can pinpoint the specific exploits to take against them. You don't need to choose one or the other, both methods can be a valuable part of your overall strategy.

As for why range construction matters when playing GTO. GTO isn't a one size fits all solution for each spot. The perceived range of your opponent matters. The solvers can give you what the opponents optimal range should be in a specific spot, but our opponents aren't always playing optimal. Our most optimal strategy against someone open shoving every hand will be different then if we give them a normal opening range. The optimal solution can change depending on the course of action the opponent takes. We are trying to solve for our least exploitable path, but that can change if we can actually construct the opponents range. But you are right in questioning whether we need to accurately construct our opponents range if we are taking GTO lines in the first place. We can just assume the the opponent is playing optimally and create our GTO strategies based off that assumption and that will still be a solid strategy that can't be exploited. I think he's teaching range construction so that we can visualize our strategies better while playing in game.

This comment just demonstrates a lack of understanding of the theory and fundamentals behind GTO. One might also extrapolate that you have some anecdotal experience in attempting a GTO strategy but have fallen short of correct implementation. GTO is GTO because it is indifferent to the opponent.
