The freshly rebuild 4l80e is now ready to go back into the turbo Silverado, and there are a few things I need to finish up before we go on our first test drive. First, it's important to check the clearances between the 4l80 torque converter and the 8.1 big block to make sure the torque converter is properly seated into the transmission pump, and second, we need to keep the trans fluid temps under control, which means a bigger transmission cooler. Today, we're installing a TruCool 40k transmission cooler behind the massive intercooler. I'm also eliminating the stock hardlines for the trans cooler, and bypassing the in-radiator trans cooler just to keep things simple. Replacing the hard lines will be some Earl's Stainless braided -6 AN hose.
